Question about FAAB on CBS? (1 Viewer)

My league is thinking of switching to either MFL or CBS. I started looking over CBS and I understand the FAAB for the most part. I also searched the forum but couldn't find an exact answer.

We traditionally have run a Blind Bid the processed automatically on Wed Night (10pm) and 10:30pm it became First Come First Served up until players lock (5 mins before their game).

This has worked perfectly and I'm trying to keep this general feature.

We use a hard cap of $150.

Question 1)

Under transactions I can either choose Automated auction process or Commish approve.

Now if I choose Automated FAAB and FAAB Run: Wed, what does that mean? I think it means that at some time Tuesday morning available FAs will be available to be bid on and the will be processed Wed (at some mysterious time). And it also sounds like there would not be a FCFS drop/add after the blind bids process.

Question 2)

Now if I choose Commish approve, it allows me to choose a deadline which would be Wed 10pm. I would assume I could not see any bids until AFTER 10pm Wed, otherwise how could I (commish) fairly put bids on players? Assuming that is the case, then I would have to manually switch the transactions to drop/add FCFS at 10:30pm Wed night.

Question 3)

Since we use a hard cap of $150, and we use the blind bids as the players new salary, does the amount bid on a player become his salary the contributes towards cap? And since the FAAB budget has no real effect on the league, I could set it for something ridiculous like $5000, but since were using a hard cap, the players salary would have to fit. If the value bid did not become the players salary, would the comissh have to manually set the players salary after he processes the blind bids?

I know these questions have been answered a bunch, and I wish it was more clear on CBS.

I've read that MFL is more customizeable, but we are needing to use online Auction Software for the draft, and I know CBS comes with it. Not sure about MFL?

Thanks to anyone who made it through this post and understands half of what we're dealing with.

1) I highly reccommend commish approve. The automated process sucks the big one as you will have no idea what order it will process the players, so if you have multiple requests with the same drop player you will not be able to prioritize it. With the commish approve process you do it manually, but it gets done correctly. You just have to have each team send you a list of their priority - they can do this without telling you the bid amounts so no worry about unscrupulous commishing. Automated process does the processing at midnight I think.2) Add/drop is locked after the waivers are processed, so you'll have to manually set it to something else if that is desired. I run the FAAB 2 times a week with no FCFS, but obviously you can do whatever you want. Just set a reminder to do it every week.3) I've never used player salaries so I can't comment on this one. You can probably start a league and try it free for a short period of time. From what I read about MFL I think they are more suited to handle what you want to do.

Thanks Puck!If I go with CBS, I will be using Commish approve. And I understand that teams will have to email me their priority request (which is a bit annoying)MFL sounds like it would be a much better fit, but I would have to then figure out how to run my auction draft without the CBS software. Thanks again for reading my long post.JimAnyone else with input, feel free to chime in.

Take a look at All Star Stats. They have a FAAB system that works great. My league has used it for the last two years in football and much longer than that for baseball. The site is set up for keeper/dynasty leagues and the customization they require. It handles salaries and contracts and updates them from one season to the next.

The only feature it does not have that you're looking for is an auction tool. I've run into this problem before as well and used to use fantasyauctioneer.com to run our baseball auctions, but it has since gone by the wayside. Fantasyauctioneer claims to be coming back in time for baseball next year, but that obviously doesn't help you.

What we did as a workaround this year was set up a baseball auction on ESPN and then I manually entered the players into All Star Stats when it was over. The ESPN auction site worked well and it solved our problem. It should do the same for you in football if you choose to go that route. Luckily, the guys in my football league all live in the same town so we don't have a problem holding it in person.

I am not a fan of CBS Sportsline. I have heard good things from just about everyone on MFL and even participated in a FBG's survivor football league on MFL last year, but I prefer the format on All Star Stats. That said, if you use ESPN to run your auction, you can then use MFL or All Star Stats to run your league (whichever you prefer).

I recommend going that route as opposed to choosing a site just because it has an auction feature. I would prefer to have a little extra work at the beginning of the year, and then have a better site which makes the league more enjoyable during the season.

Agreed J GilesI don't mind putting a little work into the auction. I will check out ESPN and see how I could manipulate the auction to fit my leagues needs. I've been using fantasyauctioneer up til last year when it blew up. Last year I used a chat room last minute and the auction took like 5 hours.I am gonna tool around with MFL tonight and I will look at All Star Stats too. I dont want to commit all that money to CBS only to have to do a bunch of work all season to make things work right. Thanks again for your input.
