Question about YOUR Keeper League Rules... (1 Viewer)

High Speed Reject

Footballguy
Apologies, if this is the wrong forum, fellas...

My 12-team non-PPR re-draft league started a 2-player keeper format with our last draft in August '09. We have an 8-team playoff which runs from Week 14 thru Week 16. We can "keep" zero, 1, or 2 players from our squads, with subsequent loss 1st (and 2nd round) picks of the following draft...

My question is: Do you allow owners who have been eliminated from the playoffs to continue to add/drop, including the waiver process, players during your league's playoffs?

This obviously was never a problem for us with our re-draft rules...

Thanks in advance, and Happy Holidays!

I'm in a keep 3 player league, but no more than one player at a given position. We do allow those non-playoff teams to continue to make moves. Allows them to pick up IR players (Ronnie Brown, etc . . .) if they want to.

If it's keeper, you gotta let all the teams make roster moves right up till the end.
I disagree. If you don't make the playoffs then you sit on the sidelines. This includes waiver moves in keeper leagues.
To each his own. Our league locked rosters when it was redraft, but since we became a keeper league, the rationale behind locking changed. Used to be that the non-playoff teams' season ended when they didn't make the playoffs. Since it was redraft, the rosters were basically dead. In a keeper league, you've got a vested interest in your roster till next season and possibly beyond. Completely unfair to allow some teams to acquire keepers for three extra weeks. Between the can't cut list and the desire to keep players, teams shouldn't have a reason to drop players and screw up the waiver wire.

We allow pickups of IR players only for eliminated teams. I think I'm the only owner that ever took advantage of the rule to pick up an IR player as a keeper for the next year (Javon Walker).

However, we do have a poorly worded clause that says you can't add or drop players that may be useful to the remaining active teams... it's never come up but presumably it's commish's prerogative.

Before the rule went into effect we had some issues, but not anymore. Now, I just wait until the day or two before the final roster lock to make my moves, the night before the last NFL game, so that who I drop won't clear waivers before rosters freeze, so that no one I drop can be picked up by anyone else. I do this every year, I don't carry a defense or kicker to the next season if there's potentially worthwhile WRs, RBs, or QBs in Free Agency.

I'm currently still active in the playoffs this year, so I'll be waiting until the last night of the season to drop my non-starting lineup for IRs that might be worth something, even trade bait, next season. Currently Leon Washington is on my radar.

Yes, we allow it.

But we have a Toilet Bowl for some small $$ in week 16...best Optimal lineup from non Superbowl teams wins back their entrance fee. Also, we require that you keep a full roster...TE, K, DEF.

Mostly people don't drop anyone that another contending team would/could use. Mostly they drop waiver wire fodder for a possible keeper next year (player with injury, etc.)

We allow them in my one keeper league, which I think is the right thing to do. A keeper league is basically a year round type league, so you need to allow other teams to build for next year, acquire trade bait for the offseason, etc.

I could see maybe putting a rule in place where playoff teams get priority on the waiver wire, but I think it would be wrong to lock out any team from waivers in a keeper format.

In re-draft, all non-playoff teams should be locked, though.

We discontinue the adding of players at the end of OUR regular season by any team, except for replacing players that have been injured. These players can only be replaced by the player backing them up on the NFL team they play for.

To each his own.
True. The keeper league that I'm in rewards teams that do well by prohibiting those that didn't do well from picking up players that may impact the playoff teams (Ganther, Jennings, Cribbs, etc.). Why reward teams that stunk the whole season with opportunities to improve their team during playoffs in which they are not participating? I just read chairshot's post and I get the playoff priority comment but I still don't like the idea of non-playoff teams making waiver moves.

We have some pretty unusual rules. In our league, players can be kept for a very low price (one round ahead of where they were drafted the prior year) but can only be kept if they were drafted by your team and rostered the whole season by your team or were traded from a team that drafted the player and the player never hit the waiver wire at any time.

We have only a 4 team playoff in 15 and 16. Those eliminated from the playoffs are roster frozen when no more moves can be made that will impact the week 14 roster for teams clearly eliminated and when playoff teams are determined in the case of teams still in contention that do not end up making the playoffs. Playoff teams are locked in when eliminated or when the final team wins the championship. Nobody can make week 17 moves.

I think you everyone should be able to pick up or none.

Punishing unfortunate teams by locking just them out seems unfair to me.

My league allows pickups until Yahoo stops them.

All our teams are competing for something until the championship.

Playoffs top4 $

Conslolation Middle 4 (Most points in weeks 15 -16) $

Cellar Cup Bottom 4 (Most points in weeks 15 & 16) 1st Pick next year
