Question: Why does the NFL charge the same for... (1 Viewer)

Pre-season & regular season game?

I figured I would throw this question out to the Pool to see if anyone knew the answer?

But the scenario I would thoerize is this.

A current season ticket costs $1000 let's say. For that, you get 10 games. Why wouldn't the NFL simply acknowledge the product during the pre-season is not equal to what the product is during the regular season and structure the costs as such. So the 2 pre-season tickets are $60, and the 8 regular season tickets are $110?

It seems there is alot of commotion every year at this time about the inferior product and the solution appears easy enough to be able to rectify simply by acknowleding varying price points for pre-season vs. regular season game distinction. At the same time, it is quite simply to still realize the same ROI over the course of the season.

Does anyone know why the NFL insist on this price structure?

I would say the quick answer is because "they can."

Also if they were to do what you suggest, someone would be complaining that they "raised" the price of the regular season games.

I agree it's a pretty crappy policy but it works for the owners and they have no real incentive to change it unless the players cave and agree to an 18 game reg. season.
