Hello all
I enjoy reading everyone posts and learn a lot.
I am hoping you guys can help me understand a subject a little better.
I have a very rudimentary understanding of the salary cap, contracts, so
on and so forth.
Can someone break this subject down further?
I believe that the salary cap this season is $127m
Are the coaches, OC,DC salaries in this cap?
Now, I seem to get a little confused on players contracts.
Taking reference to a post
Ravens sign Foxworth to a $28m contract - $16.5m is guaranteed for 4 years.
OK, what is the guaranteed money for?
How does the guaranteed money get applied to the salary cap?
Meaning, is the guaranteed money applied the 1st year of the contract?
What if the player gets traded in his first year of the contract?
Taking Foxworth again as the example, with guaranteed money taken out,
Foxworth will get paid $11.5m, or $2.8m/year.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Now suppose he gets traded to another team after his 1st season.
What happens to his contract? Does a new contract get created?
What happens to his guaranteed payout?
Finally, are there websites that keep track of where teams are in regards
to they're spending cap? I hear a lot of analysts, talk people, etc. talk about
teams cap room. Where do these people get those figures?
Thanks for taking the time to erad this and to responding.
Chris
