Just giving credit where it's due -- one of the features I've always enjoyed is FBG's deeper analysis of the players and the game itself.
I forget who has done it in years' past (for some reason thinking Bramel or Waldman?) but this year's Pushing the Pocket by Cian Fahey (and others, if they've contributed) has again provided fantastic, insightful commentary throughout the year.
The subtlety of football -- the chess game behnd the play calling; the small shifts and adjustments players do on the fly; reads and audibles called at the line; etc. -- are what makes the game so fantastically complex. You can spend hours on a straight-forward, basic Power-O Strong play analyzing why it was successful or not.
It's why books like Pat Kirwan's "Take Your Eye Off the Ball" is appealing to both veteran fans and newbies alike, peeling back the game to show you its true depth.
And it's why I love poring over weekly columns like Pushing the Pocket -- makes me appreciate the game that much more, and learn something new about a team, player, or philosophy that I did not know before despite decades of watching the game every weekend.
Well done, FBG!
