Quinton Patton WR SF (1 Viewer)

He's had a great preseason and seems to have developed good chemistry with Kaepernick. Anything to see here I redraft leagues?

Still a FA in my 12 team PPR, with 20 roster spots. Want to add him, but tight on space. Would have to cut L. Blount and I really don't want to. Could really use the WR depth though.

Per this projection system and the current estimates of WR draft position, Quinton Patton (72.0", 204, 27.7 BMI) represents the best WR value in the 2013 NFL draft. In addition to being part of a WR type that typically doesn't get drafted in the first round, he's also from a smaller school, Louisiana Tech, which all else being equal tends to suppress a player's draft position. On top of that there certainly appears to be less of a diva attitude from both smaller WRs and those that come from small schools. Possibly because regardless of talent level players like these arrive in the league knowing they will need to work hard to get ahead. In terms of his comparables Cecil Shorts is most similar both in terms of size (71 3/4", 205) and speed (4.50 vs 4.48). Patton could also be viewed as a faster version of Darrell Jackson. Patton may be the lowest-risk WR prospects in the draft.

I see Patton as having a huge opportunity. V Davis is a perennial disappointment, Crabtree is injured, Boldin is old. Kaepernick has already publicly commented on Patton, practically gushing about how good he has the chance to be, how effectively he runs routes, etc.

Ditto. He has opportunity and has shown that he's capable of doing something with it, even keeping in mind that it's preseason.

I already picked him up in one league for $2 ($100 FAAB) and dropped Streater to do so. Streater might have been the better keep but I think the opportunity is better for Patton at the moment. If Patton doesn't materialize, it didn't cost me much. If he does, I got him cheap.

He was cut in my dynasty league last night. I scooped him up. It's a 2QB league and I cut Mike Glennon for him.
Cut in a dynasty league? Last night?

Sounds like a pretty sweet league to be in. :moneybag:

That said, if you were cutting a guy like Glennon in a 2QB league maybe you just don't have the bench space/taxi squad that most dynasty leagues have. Just speculation there.

Maybe, QBs have a ton of value. Glennon was subsequently scooped up for Robert Turbin by a QB starved team. I have Rodgers and Peyton though and three first rounders next season so I am feeling pretty solid.

It's a 10 team/24 man rosters with 2 IR spots. My roster is

Player YTD Pts Bye Trade?

I've seen the last 2 SF preseason games and Patton looks good. Some sites are saying he'll start out the WR3 for the 49ers. Seems worth a roster spot in deep leagues.

And you dropped GLENNON?

I have Young as the handcuff to my top player Rodgers. I agree I probably should have dumped Sanchez but I'm not sure if he's going to start games or what not. Probably a mistake, I don't claim to be perfect.

I've never liked handcuffing for QB's. Especially one like a Rodgers. I'm not feeling real good about VY's prospects should something happen to Rodgers.

I'm just hoping to trot a warm body out there in that league. If Rodgers goes down, my season probably goes with him but I know during the season I will be choosing between Young and Geno probably. Better than leaving a blank in my rosters. It's impossible to get QBs of any value midseason off the wire. Jeff Tuel just got rostered.

I hear you. That Peyton Manning guy sucks and you wouldn't want him in your starting lineup.

Gotta start two in this league.

Kyle Williams?
Patton and Boldin will lead the way until Crabtree returns late in the year
Well Williams is still ahead of Patton on the depth chart. After seeing the highlight, Id feel better about Patton if that TD was a 40yd bomb he caught instead of a 2 yarder and awful tackling/pursuit by an already bad SD defense.

That said, not only in his competition for targets promising for him, but he's in a great offense and a QB who can make plays. I think Im dropping Greg Little for him. Only question now is, do I burn my middle waiver priority or just hope no one puts a claim in for him and scoop him up tomorrow and keeping my waiver priority for week 1? I plan on the latter, but I wont be happy if someone else picks Patton up.

Kap started 7 games last year & threw for 1,800 yards. I'll say he'll throw for about 3,800 this year.

Old man Boldin had 900 yards last year.

Davis had 550.

That's like 2,400 yards up for grabs. Even if we give Davis & Boldin better seasons this year, there's still like 2,000 yards that need to be filled.

Just picked him up in the 16th round as my WR 6. Absolutely no risk for a possible explosion. I'll give him 2 - 3 weeks and dump him if nothing materializes. At that point in a draft I'm looking for all the high upside guys, not the maxed out old guys like Moss, Bureleson, etc.....

"Attack this day with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind" is one of the many great Harbaughisms.

San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver Quinton Patton embodied that spirit earlier this week when he flew, at his own expense, from his hometown of Nashville, Tenn., to the Bay Area, eager to start preparing for the season.

"He's already my favorite guy," coach Jim Harbaugh told KNBR-AM in San Francisco on Wednesday afternoon as he gleefully relayed Patton's story.

The fourth-round draft pick from Louisiana Tech alerted the 49ers that he was coming to work after arriving at the airport.

"We had to go, 'You're where? What airport did you fly in to? You're in a rental car driving here?'" Harbaugh said.

"'Yeah, coach, 20 minutes away.' We go, 'He can't be here, he can't come here. He's not allowed to be at our facility.'"

Aside from the 24-hour period after they are drafted for media introductions, rookies aren't allowed at the team facility until the start of rookie minicamp -- which starts May 10 for the 49ers. Had Patton arrived at the facility, he wouldn't have been able to participate in next weekend's camp. The 49ers had to tell the rookie to turn around and head back home.

Patton might have dropped a few dimes on the flight and car, but that might be the cheapest price any player has paid to earn a coach's admiration.

"The fact that he would buy his own ticket, fly out here, just speaks volumes about him," Harbaugh said of Patton.

"To be honest with you, he reminds me of me. That's something I would have done. I love it."
When opportunity and talent intersect, desire will be the difference maker.

There is opportunity right now in SF receiving corps, I'm betting on desire.

Harbaugh has shown absolutely no hesitancy to start young players, and Kaep has already praised the kid. Patton has talked about finding the windows on the field when Kaep is on the move so he can find him.

Buying cheap and holding.

Harbaugh has always said you have to earn your spot and with Williams not playing in the pre-season, it will be interesting to see how this plays out. I can see them using a multitude of different combinations and with Kap's statements on Patton during the pre-season, I believe he will be in there...but only time will tell.

Regardless of depth chart, I think Patton is going to be on the field a ton. Kyle Williams and Marlon Moore being his competition dont make me feel less confident about that.
