Raider Blackout? (1 Viewer)

Any Bay Area homers know why the Raider game was not blacked out in the South Bay. Watched it on the Ticket in a bar in Santa Clara after it had been reported widely that Oak missed the sell-out deadline, by a large # of ticket sales. Just wondering?

Most likely the NFL didn't want you to miss out on the punishment the rest of us were subjected to.

The bar bought NFL Sunday Ticket (like any bar worth a darn) and was able to show you the Denver feed.

Do the Raiders and 49ers share the same blackout footprint? Is Santa Clara considered just 49ers territory or does it not matter for this? Honest questions.
They do share the whole market. And the blackout coverage is pretty wide. Believe it covers from as south as Modest to as north as Sacramento. On a side note, the Niners havent been blacked in the 30 years Ive been watching them. Its usually just a Raider problem that the entire Bay Area as grown used to.

This would still be in violation of the NFL blackout policy. DirectTV would be in alot of trouble with the NFL. They strictly enforce this policy as any BA raider fan could tell you.

Isn't being able to watch any game the POINT of buying Sunday Ticket? Is it actually illegal for a bar to show a game they are legally buying?

If the local team is blacked out, it's blacked out on Sunday Ticket as well (except apparently in shady bars in Santa Clara :P )ETA: Actually, I thought the local games were blacked out on Sunday Ticket regardless. In other words, you have to watch the FOX or CBS channel to get your local game, and the DirecTV channel carrying that game is blacked out. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The NFL's blackout policy applies to DirectTV and well as the Major networks. Not sure if they still do it, but in the past when you had the black screen before the Tickets airing would begin, there was a note saying that all games subject to blackout and to check your local listings.

I believe that to be correct

I wonder if the bar switched a receiver with some other bar/home outside of the black-out zone? I assume DTV abides by the black-out regulations based on the DTV cards in the boxes.

That wouls be one way to do it, but I was talking to the bar owner about it, and he was as surprised as anybody else that the game was being shown.

Looks like I'll be watching the Raiders game on my computer through the Ticket's Superfan website when they're blacked out. Worked out well yesterday except for the Raiders game play.
