I told you Kiffin would be good and that the zone blocking scheme would do wonders for the OLine.

#1 rushing team in the league. It's early and they need to do it against better defenses, but I've seen enough to be very pleased with what the kid coach has done.

Would you like some seasoning with your bird? Where are all you that completely wrote off every Raider offensive player in the preseason and mocked me when I tried to tell you that Kiff was doing some very good things with this team.

There's something about this kid coach. He has a presence about him and this team has bought in to his program. Old man Al has seemingly uncovered another young coaching gem. Like I've said, big Al is horrible with retreads (White, Bugel, Turner, Shell) and a genius with the young guns (Madden, Flores, Shanahan, Gruden, Kiffin). Guess who he was desperately trying to get before settling for Turner and Shell?... Urban Meyer and Petrino. Yep, the old man still has something left in the tank.

Oh and BTW, Kiffin has been given near free reign over the team. More so than maybe any other Raider coach ever. Even I am shocked by this development, but clearly Al sees something in this guy and trusts him to make good.

The next game against a desperate San Diego squad will be the true test and measuring stick. Too bad the D is struggling or we'd be talking about a 4-0 squad believe it or not.

I wagered on the season total OVER 5.I'm liking it right now..
Yep, me too! However, I also wagered on the Chiefs under 7.5. Not looking as good. I underestimated the quickness with which my old buddy Norvall would destroy the most talented team in the league.

Unless someone predicted the Raiders only to win 1 game, it's too early for crow requests.

:lmao: :lmao: I'm also on the Chiefs UNDER 7 1/2.I was loving this action 2 weeks ago....now ? (I had this one chalked up as a loss while handicapping the wager)

This team always had talent, but their heart has been suspect over the last few years. They beat themselves more than the team on the other side of the ball -- bad penalties, stupid field management, blowing leads.

What we are seeing seems to be more of a team gelling together under a proven NFL leader than any genius playcalling or locker room philosophy on the part of Kiffin.

Don't get me wrong, the Raiders needed a breath of fresh air under the headphones, but today can be chalked up to one line dominating another -- Newberry especially played incredibly, and seems much more solid there than Grove -- and Culpepper had a gritty performance, doing what he had to do, and more. He didn't throw a lot --didn't need to, given the running game dominance -- but his tosses were tight spirals and on target. And his runs for TDs weren't through easy holes or required simply a slow trot across the stripe. He put his head down and took shots.

Great game, hugely important in a phenomenally mediocre division. This team is better under Culpepper's experience and leaderhip, even if his best days as a QB are gone. Today's win can be placed on CPep's shoulders, not Kiffin's.

You are right about one thing -- this team could easily be 4-0, as nutty as this NFL season has been. They lost out in the final seconds to Denver, and while Detroit beat them by two scores, Seabass missed two FGs and had another blocked, and the Raiders were only down by a TD and a 2-pt conversion with 2 mins left when they turned over the ball, giving the Lions easy field position to punch it in and seal the game.

I'm encouraged by the Raiders' performance...more so by the players than anything I've really seen from Kiffin.

I'm sorry to be THAT GUY..... but I have to see them beat a team above .500 before I'll be eating chicken, let alone crow. It would also help if they passed the .500 mark themselves before "crowning them!".

Don`t jinx this ...please :loco:
Here comes the 12 game losing skid. :goodposting:
Man, you guys sure are snake bitten.Look forward, not backward, bro. Kiff will get this team between 6-9 wins this year, barring major injuries. And next year the sky's the limit if his JaMarcus call is anywhere near as good as all the other calls he's made.If the defense can somehow get back to last year's level, this team will beat a lot of "good" teams this year. If you can run the ball and play defense, you can compete. They just need the D to get back to last year's level.

I'm not ready for any "in your face" declarations just yet, but I am heartened by the visible progress this team has made back to respectability.

:goodposting: Any step forward - even a small one - is encouraging after last season. Not reserving any playoff tickets just yet, but pleased with the effort and Team Unity.

I agree with you, somewhat...I think that the improvements on the O-line, however, have been far more than a "small one." The running game has been the direct result of major improvements on the O-line. That has to go to the coaches, and the players must be believers as well. They may not be the best out there, but they are still WORLDS better than they were last year. My gawd, it seems on passing plays that the QB has had DAYS to throw the ball. I can't see the WR's when they focus in on the QB, but I am thinking that they are unable to get open? I do feel that the receiving corp needs improvement, and the D's ranking this year is more realistic than where they were ranked last year. Not an elite #3 ranked D, but more of a just above average D.

JMO........

Oakland could very well be 3-1 right now. Not that I'm complaining about going into the bye week at 500, but 3-1 sure would have been sweet. Especially since I predicted Oakland surprising everyone and going 10-6! Still not out of reach.

I may have referred to them as a bad team, can't recall for sure but I'll certainly take a side of crow if indeed I did. I'm just chapped that C-Pep didn't start earlier before I dropped him. I was ready for him to explode vs DET in week 1 so I could trade him high. Instead I thought I needed James Jones to sit on my bench at WR. I've gotta do something about my front office personnel, lol.

Actually, you don't have to see them beat a team over .500. They could beat just the bad teams on their schedule, finish 8-8, and a lot of people could have been wrong. They could finish 7-9, and a lot of people could have been wrong. Especially as it appears 7-9 will NOT be the last place record in the AFC West.Unless of course, you predicted massive improvements along the O-line, and a matching of last year's wins by Week 4.

I think it is way too early for these threads, and don't think they really do much good anyway, but after we signed the 31-year-old coach, and didn't draft 7 O-linemen, I wasn't hearing too much optimism about the Raiders from anyone.

How many teams left on their schedule do you think will finish below .500???
