PK Janikowski Questionable, Raiders Concerned

David White, San Francisco Chronicle - [Full Article]

PK Sebastian Janikowski missed practice with a tight back Wednesday, and the Raiders are scrambling to sign a temporary replacement. Janikowski is now listed as questionable for Sunday's game. HC Art Shell said he'll try out a few kickers this week before making a decision. "Yes, there is a concern there," Shell said. Janikowski reported tightness in his back before Sunday's loss at San Diego, then missed a 36-yard field goal.

Just thinkin. Wouldn't Vanderjagt fit the bill PERFECTLY!!! :banned:

I haven't heard yet who they'll be trying out. Both Tim Duncan and David Kimball were in Raiders' camp this summer. From his first head coaching stint, Art Shell is familiar with Jeff Jaeger's kicking.

Vandy is an upgrade over Janikowski. Janikowski has cost the Raiders way more games than Vandy has cost his teams. Neither is worth the salary they command. Bring Jeff Jaeger back.

Never understood paying big money or burning draft picks to kickers ( Elam and Vinitaeri are exceptions)I remember when the 49ers actually drafted a kicker in the mid rounds many many years back. He got hurt for a bit and they signed Ryan Longwell from Cal to kick for them. When their drafted kicker got healthy, they cut Longwell because they burned a pick on the other guy. Longwell went on to have a solid run with the Packers and the 49ers went on to having struggles with their kickers for a while. You always hear about line gurus or turf gurus, too bad I've never heard of a coach who was a bonafide kicking guru.
Steve Hoffman is generally considered a kicking coach guru. He is with Atlanta this year. He spent many, many years with Dallas.

Concerned over Sebastian Janikowski's lingering back pains, the Raiders brought in a pair of kickers for tryouts Thursday but offered neither a contract. Veteran Paul Edinger and rookie Kurt Smith both worked out at the team's Alameda facilities following practice, with special teams coach Ted Daisher watching. "We're going to look at a couple of guys today and probably tomorrow," Oakland coach Art Shell said. "We still have a couple of days. Sebastian was much better today than he was yesterday. We are holding out hope we won't have to do anything."

Janikowski has been bothered by a sore back since Saturday when he started feeling tightness during the Raiders' team plane trip to San Diego. He missed a 36-yard field goal in his only attempt against the Chargers, Janikowski's first miss from inside 50 yards this season. Oakland's first-round draft pick in 2000, Janikowski has not kicked at all this week in practice and is questionable to play against the Houston Texans on Sunday. "I guess it's like a back spasm. I can't move," Janikowski said. "I don't know what's going to happen. (I'll) see how I feel tomorrow. If it feels better tomorrow, I'd like to kick a little bit."

I've never seen a 7-foot kicker before. That would be kind of cool.

Kicker Sebastian Janikowski, who battled a bad back during the week, missed three field goal tries. He was short and left from 53 yards, and popped the left upright from 37 and 29. The Raiders tried out two kickers during the week, but signed neither. Why put Janikowski in that position? "Sebastian said he was feeling great," Shell said. "That was the determining factor."

If Art Shell says one thing, do the other. I won't say bring back Jaeger, but bring in someone.

Sebastian Janikowski reported no back pain in a morning workout, and trainers told coach Art Shell the kicker seems fine. Janikowski missed three field-goal attempts in Sunday's 23-14 loss to the Texans, but Shell said it had nothing to do with a back injury that limited him in practice. Shell has no plans to audition kickers this week.

Maybe Shell brings in the gardner from the Bed & Breakfast because he/she works in the field (goal).

I'm from California and the RAIDERS ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

I actually thought they were going to be pretty good this year ? I'm such a fool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In 1 of my leagues, Moss & Jordan combined have been outscored in Fantasy Football by the following:

Oh Wait, before I get to those stats, Randy Moss has been on our leagues waiver wire for 17 days

burress

Reggie Brown

Jacobs

Addai

Colston

Fredy

Travis Henry

Ahman

Chester Taylor

T. Glenn

T.J. yours mama

Jones=drew

Marion barber

Duece

Jamal

Driver

and of course the big boys. Amazing that they could be that bad. What dis-appoints me is that I used to golf with Jackie Slater. He's a good man, I thought He & Shell would have Jordan being a stud. NOT!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Holidays and good luck to all in your playoffs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
