Raiders at Chargers - how about that spread? (1 Viewer)

It's Raider week in Chargerville. The Chargers are coming off their biggest win of the year and the Raiders just lost Lamont. The week 1 game was a blow out, the Raiders haven't exactly lit the world on fire, but their defense is actually decent to good, and I'm sure the Raiders would love to spoil the Chargers' party early.

I get a sense that this could be a trap game. I don't think the Raiders will win, but the Chargers are extremely banged up and short handed on defense and could be in for a let down/slough off game. I think it'll be closer than 13.5 points.

What do you all think?

It'll be interesting to see if this line moves much if at all. It seems like money would flood in on the Raiders if it went to 14.5 or higher so I don't see that happening. But, I can see money going SD's way if it drops below 13. In any case, I'm a Raiders homer and generally think these AFC West matchups end up being closer than the two team's respective abilities would indicate. I'd take the points at the current line despite my homerism (although I think I remain fairly objective).

Some interesting factoids from that article:

Anyone know how Turner's doing? I saw he was hurt. If the Chargers are up by a couple TDs in the fourth, they probably would want to rest LT a bit, right?

That might open the door for a comeback and a loss of less than 2 TDs if Turner isn;t there to carry the load while LT rests.

If they are NOT resting LT Inthe fourth, I'd guss they do not have a comfortable lead and the 14 point victory would be at risk.

In short, I could easily see a 24-3 blowout suddenly becoming a 24-13 loss of your bet.

The Chargers will be without defensive end Luis Castillo tomorrow, but it appears they will have kick returner Michael Turner. The backup running back tweaked his hamstring Thursday and missed parts of the past two practices. But he did some running yesterday and appeared fine afterward.

Also as mentioned in that thread, Tomlinson, Turner and Neal are the only running backs that dress for Sundays this year - Sproles is out for the year and Perkins and Gross are both on the practice squad.Consider, if Turner is not 100% LaDainian may get just about all the carries again this week - good times for LaDainian fans.

Yes the Raiders are not exactly lighting the NFL on fire with their offense. I think Art Shell gather some offensive plays from Madden 2007. Also consider the Raiders starting running back is Justin Fargas.

As an LT owner, I am hoping the correction needs to be made to the first number, not the second. Regardless, there are only 4 TDs separating the Raiders at #6 and the Bills at #25.Give LT 3 or 4 rushing TDs and the Raiders will be ranked right where they ought to be ranked against the run.

LT is amazing, but the Raiders D is for real. They've got speed and they make plays, and they generally understand the game, although they're a little undisciplined (as shown on the LT-to-Gates pass play). The defensive stats are not misleading; this group can play. They even have heart, unlike the offense.

This defense is already good, and they are going to get better. They have a lot of very good young players at LB and in the secondary. Morrison and Howard played very well yesterday. Howard contained LT whenever he turned it outside to the left. Asomugha and Huff are both studs.
