RAIDERS HIRE KNAPP

Need further proof that the Oakland Raiders won't be trading for Falcons running back Michael Vick? Late Sunday night, the Raiders hired former Falcons offensive coordinator Greg Knapp.

It was Knapp's West Coast offense that couldn't maximize Vick's talents or minimize his weaknesses during three seasons in Atlanta.

Of course, it remains to be seen whether the Raiders will use the West Coast offense or whether Knapp will be asked to learn how to run the offense that Kiffin co-coordinated at USC, which he and Steve Sarkisian learned from former Trojans offensive coordinator (and current Titans offensive coordinator) Norm Chow.

Given that Kiffin previously has said that he plans to call the plays, our guess is that Knapp will be asked to fuhgetabout the West Coast offense and adapt to the Kiffin system.

If so, we find it ironic. It was, in the end, the refusal of Knapp and Jim Mora to adapt and/or scrap the West Coast offense in order to get the most out of Vick that contributed to Knapp's recent unemployment

I'll be the first to ask, does this help Jordan? I would ask about how it helps the QB or WRs, but I have no idea who will be playing those spots.

Seeing how the Falcons adamantly denied any interest in trading Vick almost 2 weeks ago, yeah, I'd say the trade rumors are done.

2 weeks???? Seems lke last week to me. Falcons respond to Vick trade rumor Published Tue Jan 23 9:32:00 a.m. PT 2007 (Rotoworld) Presumably in response to a trade rumor, a Falcons spokesperson said Tuesday that the club has "no plans to trade...or cut" Michael Vick.Impact: Atlanta's hire of Bobby Petrino seemed to be directly related the team's plans for Vick, so a trade doesn't seem at all likely right now. That could change in 2008 or possibly after June 1, but the rumor appears to be nothing more than speculation or wishful thinking at this point.

Atlanta has had one heck of a run offense for a few years now.

Hmmm, maybe all Oakland needs is to change the offensive line scheme to include chop blocks on most downs.

I say it helps Jordan, particularly in PPR leagues. Jordan has shown he catch well and should get a lot of dump passes. And considering the Raiders don't have much in terms of a TE, I don't see him compteting with anyone for catches....

In other news, Kiffin still is awaiting word from former Falcons offensive line coach Tom Cable about an offer to assume the Raiders offensive line coaching position.

Also, Kiffin met with his entire coaching staff for the first time Monday. He likely will make decisions on whether to retain assistant coaches such as Walsh and Jackie Slater in the coming days. Most of the defensive coaches already are under contract, including defensive coordinator Rob Ryan.
