Raiders said no to trade for Tui (1 Viewer)

Here is a blurb saying that Oakland turned down a trade offer from Cleveland during the draft for Tuiassossoppsosossososossoooo. There was a discussion in a Raider thread about Walter and Brooks and whether Oakland's not taking Cutler or Leinart at #7 was a vote of confidence for Walter or not.

Anyway, I chimed in saying that Oakland will give Brooks every opportunity to succeed this year, and if he falters, they will plug in Walter to see what he's got. If he doesn't impress, they look QB next year, either in the draft or via free agency. I am just wondering how Oakland's not wanting to move Tui factors in. I mean, for my money, if Walter was the solid #2, why not get something for Tui, right.

Here's the blurb.

Raiders | Team said no to Tuiasosopo trade

Tue, 2 May 2006 12:37:42 -0700

The San Jose Mercury News reports the Oakland Raiders said no to the Cleveland Browns Sunday, April 30, when asked if they were interested in trading backup QB Marques Tuiasosopo. He is in the final year of the six-year contract he signed as a rookie in 2001.

I guess it could have something to do with Tuiasosopo being the only QB on the roster with 'Raider' experience. Or maybe Oakland is still worried about Walters not being healthy enough to be the #2 at the start of the season? Dunno...

Or simply, maybe Cleveland wasn't willing to give enough? Although the blurb seems to make it out like the Raiders responded with a flat no, before even hearing what Cleveland was willing to part with.

I think the Raiders were probably offered very little in return and knew that at this point who is going to come in a be a better 3rd stringer for this season behind Brooks and Walters?

I am a bit of a homer when it comes to Walters from his days at ASU, but given the chance, with MOSS,Porter and Jordan, he may be able to put up some decent numbers. You just don't set PAC-10 carrer TD records unless you have some talent in throwing the ball.

I mean... they need a vet to back up Brooks. Tui may be bad, but as a #3, who can they pick up in FA thats better?
