Bri,Not much of a fan of Rivers. I recapped Week 15 vs. Arizona, and his 3 catches were unremarkable.Marcellus Rivers or Courtney Anderson?
Rivers had about as many catches as Anderson in the second half of last season. Anderson had a sweet week 3 in 05 and otherwise their stats are pretty close.

He has added weight without losing much, if any, speed and has improved his blocking.
Jeff, it is difficult to compare different players in different schemes/offenses. I think, with Shell, it might come down to blocking or other intangibles.Considering how feable HOU was at using the TE last year, it is difficult to fairly depict Rivers' talent on OAK. In the last 5 games of 1005, Rivers had 22 targets and he caught 17 of the passes. Jeff is right that the ypc was low, but the blame could just as easily be placed on the offense and not Rivers. But, I think catching 3.5 balls a game over the last 5 games is a step in the right direction for Rivers.Bri,Not much of a fan of Rivers. He did catch a bunch of balls down the stretch last season, but he doesn't do anything if and when he gets it. He caught 24 passes last year, same at Courtney Anderson. CA had 19 firsts, Rivers has just 9. That's bad.
Rivers averaged under 10 ypc last year, and has had only 2 seasons in 5 years with over 6 catches. Both of those he averaged below 10 ypc.
Anderson had a 12.6 yard average last season with 3 TDs. Rivers has had 2 TDs in the past 4 years.
Seems like an easy decision to me in Courtney Anderson - not that I'd be excited starting him on my fantasy team.
Interesting. Did he switch to TE? I see him on NFL.com as both a WR and a TE:Raiders RosterIf you like long shots Randal Williams is your man.

Visanthe Shiancoe was a good young prospect with the Giants. Rivers' first couple years he was used on the GL and caught a couple TDs here and there. Otherwise he was stuck behind Shiancoe and Shockey really. Last year's second half was the first time he truly got to play as a starter(or not starter but the receiving TE) in his NFL career. I thought he showed something. Pathetically, but I suppose to his credit, his second half stats are the best production from a Texans TE since Miller's 40 catches in 2003.I guess we disagree here.Bri,Not much of a fan of Rivers. Randal Williams
Don't know much about him. Just saw the blurb on KFFL so I added it. Mostly likely just camp hype.2004: Saw action in two games at wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys, caught one pass for 14 yards.
Staying in to block was a big reason for his lack of production, but the other half was K.Collins. I went to a couple Raiders' games and have seen Anderson standing all alone, with nobody within 10-15 yards of him and near the 1st down marker while waving his arms and watching the ball fly 25 yards down the field to a well covered WR. I like Anderson this year as Brooks has shown that he is just as willing to throw to a TE as he is to a RB or WR. Another reason to believe that Brooks will do better in Oakland than Collins.Courtney Anderson will be the Man. He's my value pick at TE this year. His stats were so poor last year because the OL was terrible and he had to stay in and block. From the BloggerHopefully Shell, Slater and Eatman should get the OL playing better plus Gallery and Grove will have another year under their belts. Anderson is raw but has the size and ability to be a quality TE, Anderson's success will depend on Brooks, the offensive philosophy and the perfromance of the supporting cast.

I was thinking that if any coach is gonna bench a TE for poor blocking it'd be Shell. Know what I mean? Please holler if you notice any good camp reports on his blocking improvingAnderson should win it, but if Williams continues to challenge, watch out for him. I recommend picking him up in all dynasty leagues with deep rosters (especially those that relax roster limits in the offseason) - as a converted WR, he'll be a very solid fantasy TE.
