As it stands, the Rams have incumbent starter Steven Jackson at the top of the depth chart at running back with free-agent acquisition Tony Fisher as the No. 2 option. Rookie free agents Antoine Bagwell and John David Washington are also on the roster vying for opportunities.
With the apparent lack of depth at the position, the Rams will likely turn to the free agent or trade market in an attempt to bolster the position. There has been plenty of speculation about the possibility of a trade for New Orleans’ Michael Bennett, who played for Linehan with the Vikings or the signing of Moe Williams, another former Viking.
Nothing has been solidified in terms of another addition, but Linehan said though he feels comfortable with Fisher as the No. 2 option, the Rams will work quickly in the next week or so to make an addition at the position.
“Now we have to consider some things and look at some potential options to acquire a running back to add to our depth,” Linehan said. “When you lose a player the caliber of Marshall Faulk, you definitely don’t replace him; you just try to make your depth look a little better.”
