Ran a 10k in June (1 Viewer)

This past Saturday, I ran the Snickers Half-Marathon in Albany, GA. I put up a PR of 1:41:31, a whopping 6 seconds better than my previous best. Nice flat, fast course, I ran slight negative splits and I didn't train very hard for this race.Next up: 5k Plus One More Mile in Athens, GA -- Best thing about this race: Saturday afternoon and a tour/tasting at the Terrepin Brewery post-race!
It's all good! Congrats, Workhorse!!

gruecd: There is a nice, nearly full-page color photo of the start of the race on the front page of the Little Rock paper today. You are very easy to spot near the front of the pack. I'll be happy to send you a copy if you care to have one.
I'm famous!!! I found the ones online, but if you could send me a hard copy, that would be awesome. I'll text you with my address. Thanks!
Do you always run with your hands that high?

A PR is a PR regardless of how much you crush it.

:mellow:A PR is a PR.

I've done some iStalking have come up with the following:#414 = the girl that I passed on the bike multiple times during my bike ride last Wednesday = :lmao: #203 = the ten your old boy I gave the gu to!!!#526 = the girl who paced off of us for awhile :mellow:I might go back and do more work, as there were 124 girls aged 20-34 out of the 800 who ran (God Bless a College town!), and I haven't found nearly as much talent as I saw on Sunday. Here are a few to look at (this is not my best work):417547342295
You sure 295 isn't 14?
What's funny is that the 10 year old kid (#203) finishes right behind this gaggle of girls. Smart kid to follow a pack of young ladies! I guess liquors shared advice as well as a gel with the young'un. A future FBG in the making, for sure.

Yeah, I guess so. Why?

Yep - nothing wrong with the Sergei Bubka philosophy of PR setting!

My quick update:

Sorry to sound like Gruecd, but I played basketball for the first time in a couple years last night and am hurting like a mother today. I have parts of me that hurt, that I didn't know could hurt. I did wake up and get in a 15 mile bike ride at 20.6 mph. Could have been faster, but it was a bit windy, and it included three semi-stops. I've got a long ways to go in just 4 weeks.

SRD and massage yesterday. Did 12 at 7:49 pace this morning before work. Will do another 12 tomorrow afternoon, including some long hill repeats. 20 on Saturday. Gross.

Man that is some serious milage over the next couple of days. Just sick. I am not really looking forward to my 20 on Sunday. Even though it is only one more mile than last week, that 20 number has something about it._________________Did 6 last night and have a 45 minute Tempo run tonight to do. Felt awful last night during the run, but that is what I get for running after dinner. I am not used to it and it made me struggle.

As for my update: I ran my 9 mile pace run on Saturday at a 7:18 pace. This is a bit faster than I thought I would be able to go, but I have been feeling really well as of late. I hope I am not peaking to early, but it all feels really good. Saturday afternoon and night I was on my feet most of the time with my son's birthday party.Yesterday I ran my 19 miles (in shorts, yes!!!) as planned. I did some miles fast and some a bit slower, but did have an average of 8:05 per mile. I thought this as a pretty good sign for me as feel as I am getting a lot faster now. My legs were not there from the day before, but I felt good enough to push it here and there.
That is an outstanding 2 days...seems like you're dialed in. I was going for the 9 pace / 20 this weekend but got derailed by a hard rain on Sunday and had to cut my long run short at 10 after I was completely soaked. I'm going for 20 tomorrow after hitting 9 fairly hard tonight.
They are a rough couple of days to go through so good luck. I am feeling pretty good. I start my 20's this weekend with a 10/20 combo Saturday and Sunday. For me, this week is not a pace weekend so I get a bit of a break there.
Mighty impressive work you've been doing lately. Can't wait to see how you do in the Pig. Just stay away from my 3:06 PR, OK? :goodposting:

HM is 9 days away now. Did my last speed workout before the race this morning -- 3M tempo run, ended up doing it at a 7:19 pace overall. Not quite my fastest, but looking back, I realize that from last Friday through today, I've run 28 miles over those 7 days. That's definitely my record, so to be almost at my fastest at the end of a heavy (for me) week of running is pretty encouraging.

Now there's just a 12-mile long run on Saturday and a couple of short, easy runs on Tuesday and Wednesday (4 and 2) between me and the race. Looking forward to some life coming back into my legs.

Already starting to think about what comes next. I know that I didn't really put in as many miles as I should have (between work and Baltimore's two blizzards I was pretty lax until about 4 weeks ago) so that makes me encouraged to think that there will be significant room to improve whatever time I run on March 20.

Right now the goals are:

Break 1:45 for my first HM

Run another HM, this time at BQ pace (1:40 for me)

Take stock and assess whether I'm ready to gear up to run the Baltimore marathon in October

No worries there. I am not sure what I am shooting for on the pig, but low 3 is probably not in the picture at all unless I find a shortcut to skip a mile or two.

I also feel bad that I didn't put any pix in for TriMan's enjoyment. #175 is for you Bud!
I realize this was only posted a few hours ago, but it really isn't getting the love it deserves...
Just looked at it. :goodposting: :lmao:
:finger: PSL :finger: You know, her chip time was probably under 2:30, so she was rockin'. I do kind of like the glasses, but what the heck does she have wrapped around her arm? It's looks like she cut the end off of one of your unwashed OxySox.45 degrees this morning, and the track back open so I stopped by for some half-mile repeats - the dreaded first speedwork of the season. Did five 1/2-mile repeats, averaging 3:22.

Did five 1/2-mile repeats, averaging 3:22.
You are half they way there to running a 3:22 marathon (i.e., whatever you can run 10, half mile repeats in, with quarter mile recoveries, you should be able to run a marathon in)!!!______________________________

My update:

There must be something in the air, as I also started "speed" work (still used loosely) today. I haven't run a single mile anywhere near 5k pace (for me 6:45) for nearly 5 months, so I went into this expecting nothing. I did a one mile warm-up (8:45) followed by a 6:58 mile, 1 FULL mile recovery @ 8:50 (I did one full mile, as I was afraid I'd hurt my calf w/o it); I then did a 6:54 mile followed by a half mile recovery at 8:52, then another half mile at 6:56 pace, prior to a half mile cool down. My legs/calves feel great, which gives me some optimism for getting a little bit of speed over the next 4 weeks.

My plan was to run 3 full mile intervals with only half mile recoveries, but I'll take 2.5 miles worth of intervals w/ a little longer recovery time and confidence that my legs feel pretty darn great. Next week I'll do 800 repeats, which will give me a better gauge of my actual fitness right now. In the past I usually do more 1600/800 intervals than 800/400, and I'm not really sure why. With this being a sprint Duo that I'm training for, I'm guessing I'll get more benefit from the 800's. Anyone want to shed light light on why I should be doing one over the other?

I'll do 2 sets of my lunge routine tonight, then I'll take a much needed rest day tomorrow, before getting to do a brick workout on Saturday (I love bricks!!)

 Her chip time was 2:29:15, and she placed first (also last) in the Female 65+ division (she's 67).

Did my weight circuit and an hour on the bike trainer late last night, so predictably had trouble getting up and getting motivated this morning. So instead I skipped my run and finished cleaning up my Christmas decorations ( :bag: ) which have been buried in snow/ice on my front lawn until now.

Just got back from a killer 12-miler in the cold and rain. 4.7 miles up at 7:54 pace, six (6) hill repeats at 5K effort, 4.9 miles down at 7:42. Can't feel my fingers.

Did my tempo run last night. 10 minute warm up and then 30 minutes between 7:24 and 7:30 a mile. Then a 5 minute cool down. I did this on the treadmill, which I just find easier to do my speed workout on in order to keep my pace and speed up. I am beat though. This week has completely worn me out. I am ready for some sleep and a rest day today. Have a great weekend guys.

That is a killer workout. I remember hitting that for the first time in phase 2 and thinking it would be an easier workout.

What the hell!?!? Went out for a 3 mile tempo run this morning (+ 1 mi warm/cool) and during my warm-up mile I decided to hit a 5k hard and see what I can do (FIRST is all based on your 5k time, so as I ramp back up it's something I needed to do, anyway).

1.6 miles - 7:31s

1.5 miles - 7:24s

3.1 miles - 7:28s (23:10)

That's my fastest time in a several years (since 2004, I think) by quite a bit - last year I based my training program on a 24:00 5k time. I forgot to look at the FIRST book before I left the house to see what my "new" equivalent times will be... but I'm excited (and a little nervous) to check it out tonight.

I'm thinking hard about taking off early this afternoon for a ride outside...

Nice! As far as checking out your "new" times based on that 23:10 .... Be afraid. Be very afraid.Got my 12-mile long run tomorrow, and then it's just wait around (and put in a couple of short runs) before the HM next Saturday. Treating tomorrow like a dress rehearsal. Going to wear my race stuff, eat race breakfast, and start at race time - ugh, 7 a.m. I plan to start out nice and slow for the first 3, then try to run close to 8:00 miles for the middle 6, and then take it slow again coming home.

It still seems cool to me that just 8 weeks ago, 6 miles was pretty much the longest run I'd ever done and now I'm going to double that tomorrow.

Today was my first run since two Sundays ago. I injured my hamstring last Tuesday (3/2), and I wanted to give it plenty of time to heal, so I rested it until I felt no nagging discomfort in it at all -- which was took about a week -- and then I rested it several more days just to be on the safe side. So my run today was going to be just a regular "standard" 5-miler at 8:35/mi, and woah was it a lot harder than I thought it would be. There was a lot more huffing and puffing on the second half of that run than I would have liked. Part of it was that I had to do the run more or less on an empty stomach because my wife neglected to buy enough breakfast food to get us through the week (WTF?), but I was surprised that I lost that much fitness in such a short period of time.

The good news is that everything felt okay in my hamstring and knee, so hopefully I should be good to go. I'll just need to ease back into things a bit, but rebuilding shouldn't be too bad.

Good to hear everything felt OK during the run (injury wise). I'm always shocked by how quickly the fitness level can drop off. The good news is that it should come back quickly, too. Shopping is clearly different in the Karamazov household than in the Wraith household. We have enough instant oatmeal in my basement to outlast a nuclear winter.

There was an awesome "show us your gruesome injury" thread there not too long ago. Lovely stuff.

You'll bounce back quick.Of all injuries I have had (I've had a bunch), hamstrings are the most vicious. And debilitating. I don't blame you one bit for nursing it for a while.

1:47 1/2 marathon may be doable, but a 3:45 marathon...

If wuuuving her is wong, I don't wanna be wight.---Kind of crappy weather here, too, this morning (45 degrees and light rain/drizzle throughout), and coming off of nine solid training days, but got out this morning for a 16 mile run through the city. Legs kind of sore even at the start, so it was a bit of a slog throughout, but all in all ...a good training run.

Is that the For ##### & Giggles Training Program you are following? Seriously, why so many miles, so early in the season without a full marathon on the schedule? I took my first day off in 14 yesterday and another today & I feel lousy. Day off to my wife translated to good time to paint my son's room. Three coats later between last night and today & my legs and neck are killing me (I know, ). St Pat's Parade 5K tomorrow should be fun.

Had my best training run ever today. 5 miles, 7:30 pace. Felt incredibly strong throughout. I really think my recent commitment to a leg-lifting program is already paying dividends. I've pretty much eliminated the hamstring issues that have been setting me back this year and my knees feel better than ever.

Sometimes you can sense when you are about to break through to a new level of performance -- I think I'm on the cusp of putting up some excellent times in 2010.

Days like today make it fun to be a runner.
