Any idea on if there will be any type of web cast or live TV race coverage so I can try it again (while pretending to work)? Oh, and try not to dwarf the runners around you at the start this time, my people are a bit sensitive to you giants making them look even smaller.

Another wave started moments ago. By the looks of the athletes, I'd guess its his wave & he is off.eta, or not. Got a buddy that is 41, must have been his wave.

Looks like Grue got caught up in traffic at the start. That said, he's still pacing under the 3:10 needed to re-qualify.

Remember, the first half is all slightly downhill. Dang, though ...7:12/mile at the start of a marathon.

Just FYI, I'm gonna try to hold back and go through the first half around 1:34-1:35, HTFU through the hills, and then take an inventory and see how I feel when I hit Boston College. If all goes well, I'll hit 3:10.

ETA: To put the above in perspective, when I ran in 2008 and had no flippin' idea what I was doing, I was trying to run 3:20-3:30. I stupidly went through the half at 1:37 (which is easy to do with the downhills), when I should've been more like 1:40-1:45. The last ten miles were an absolute death march, and I ran the second half in 2:05. Rookie mistake. Never again.

Remember, he wanted to start slow. If he wants to do the first half in 1:34:30, his pace would need to be 7:12.His pace is 7:12. Dude is a robot.

May not have been traffic, but his plan to go out "slow". Grue posted earlier that 6:58 - 7:02 was marathon pace for him which would equate to a 3:03. Looks like 3:10 is the goal for this event which is a harder course then his other events.

Miles 7-12 in 45:45 (7:37)....final mile I gave it all I had...ran it in 7:05!

Total time = 1:35:00 (7:54)

Legs are a bit sore today but not too bad. 4 weeks until my 1/2 and I'm feeling good about reaching my goal time of 1:38:00.

I got just my first real run since last week's race and it was pretty difficult. Ran just six miles at 8:05 pace, and was pretty winded coming in. It's frightening how quickly my fitness level can come down after just taking a week off.

My last two weeks have been a bit tumultuous. Hurt my back(just a bit), recovered, had an ear problem, recovered. Installed a new sprinkler system at home by myself, recovered. Runs in last two weeks, three. But I am still losing weight so there is an upside. I also got put on blood pressure medication for the first time ever. Doc claims it will probably let me run faster than I did without it.

I have 6 months before the two half's. I am fairly certain I will be ready.

Going to try 5 miles tomorrow evening, 3.5 on Thursday, and 6 again on Saturday.

My plan is to move up to 7.5-8 for my long run in May, 9 in June, 10-11 in July, then 13 in August. Bump it up to 15 in September and 17-18 in November. December will be the month of 20 and taper.

If for some reason I can't get to 15 before the races in October I am not going to run the Disney Marathon. Whenever I do run a marathon I want to be completely ready for it.

I am following Chad, like many here he is one of my heroes.

No kidding, right?The current leaders (Merga and Cheruiyot) are now pulling away right near the turn on to Commonwealth Avenue and the first parts of Heartbreak Hill. At record pace.

To put this in perspective, that's roughly my 200m pace...and that might be being generous to myself.

I ran a mile in the 5-teens once. I was 30 pounds lighter at the time. Only ever paired two sub 6s a handful of times. Some things I can't imagine bodies being able to maintain. 5:09 for 26 is one of them.

My wife grew up right at the bottom of the descent from Heartbreak Hill and her mom still lives there. To be honest, one of the reasons I now want to run a marathon is the thought of someday qualifying for Boston and getting to run past her house as my wife and kids cheer me on. I figure if I really stick with it for 4 more years, I should be able to do it when I turn 45 (and pick up those extra 10 minutes to qualify).

Yesterday, my mother-in-law was all braggy that her niece was in town from California to run the marathon. She's 54 and turns out she didn't qualify (which would require a 4:05:00 in her age group) -- not sure how she got her bib. Just got her 5k split - running a 9:30 pace (4:09:00 overall). On the one hand, I respect her for doing it. On the other hand, I'm a little having to hear about how great she is.

Nice. My wife grew up right where the Green line ends, across the street from BC. She still remembers being a little kid on Patriots Day, sitting on the curb eating ice cream cones and watching the runners go by.

My best friend grew up in the same area. Just up the hill from the end of the B-Line. In fact, he worked at that little video store right there on Comm Ave for many years. I learned how to play golf at Newton Commonwealth, right near there.
