Ran a 10k in June (6 Viewers)

GD it, I'm inventing some sort of insulated running cup and making millions. Will you guys be my test group?Did 5 with 3 @ HMP today and nearly froze **** off, literally. It was painful :shock:On the plus side, I felt fantastic running wise.
What are you wearing? I wear normal running shorts (lined) under running pants and that's great for me as long as its above-zero. Three layers is enough for Little Ivan.

Regular shorts (basketball style, I guess) under sweatpants. Doesn't cut the wind in the slightest bit.

Good news...bad news.

Bad news -- did 18 miles (was hoping to do 20), but it was dark, cold, tired and hungry, so I bailed a bit early. It was another late afternoon run but family obligations required it. (training for a marathon with 2 boys 5 years old and younger isn't easy). Also, I was slow....about 9:10 mile.

Good news -- my knee was better....not all the way there but certainly much better. I lightened it up quite a bit when I felt the jarring pain. I think I have ITBS -- Details at this link. I also felt much better today on my rest day.

Hoping to get out for a quick 4-5 miles tomorrow AM after I get my oldest to school. Have a work appointment which will determine how long I can run for.

On my end I managed a 9 mile run this morning. 30 degrees, 15mph winds, snow flurries. Pretty odd weather for Alabama. Tough run - 590 ft. of climbing. This makes 36 miles in the last week. By far my largest weekly volume.
Ok, good gravy I am sore. Been a while since my legs felt like this. How in the bloody hell do you actually get to 40+ miles a week without your legs falling off?I was supposed to do bike intervals tonight. #### that. Tomorrow a swim and bike. No effing running.

:lmao: I wonder the same thing all the time, GB. I shudder at what I'm gonna be doing to get ready for this marathon in May. :scared: 36 is a kick-### week. Great job!

As I've said before, foam rollers are :moneybag: for ITB issues.Like I said last weekend, my running muscles needed a great after a couple busy months, so I only ran one time last week, a not-so-easy 5-miler in the snow on Thursday. Also did three sessions on the bike trainer, 45 minutes on Tuesday and 60 minutes each on Saturday and Sunday. Got up at 4:45 this morning to play some pick-up hoops, and I'm hoping to run after work. Not exactly sure how that will work with the ridiculous wind chills we're expecting today. The treadmill is the bane of my existence.

Still not sure how exactly I'm going to train for Boston. I'll probably just do Pfitz 12/55, since 18 weeks is too long for me to stay motivated during the winter, and it's tough to run a lot more miles in the snow. I'll try to make up for the lower mileage by really focusing on quality and by supplementing with some swimming and biking.

Time to shower and get to work, but I hope you all have a great day!

Kept at it this weekend.

Went out Friday afternoon and did 8. Got bit by a dog after about 200 yards from my house. Small dog I was helping coral and he got my thumb a bit. Just kept on running and wiping blood for about 2 miles then finished out the run.

Saturday, I went out for a lite 6 miles and started to have a bloody nose (heavy). I was using my white shirt and snow to help stop it, but I looked like I was knifed. And in the Holiday spirit, I probably passed 4 or 5 people on the street and no one even asked if I was ok. Happy Holidays effers. No problems though. Got it stopped and finished up the run.

Sunday went out and the wind was freezing. Did my 13 miles and was happy to get back home? Wind is such a fickle beast in the winter. No blood on this run, so all is good.

40 miles again this week. I am getting ready for a good training cycle starting in three weeks.

Have a great day all.

ugh. Just not getting it done right now. I only ran one day last week - although yesterday, I finally did a decent-length run and knocked out 10 miles. I ran it very slow, with the emphasis on staying comfortable and keeping my heart rate down for the entire thing. And, sure enough, I finished feeling pretty good, with a bit more motivation to maybe actually run again.

Going to try to go again tomorrow and get back on some kind of schedule, but between staying up late for the Ravens game tonight and the forecast tomorrow a.m. of high winds and single-digit wind chill temps, has me already wondering if I'm going to do it.

Still planning on starting Pfitz 18/55 on Jan. 10 for a mid-May BQ attempt, but I'm pretty discouraged with how slack I've been since the marathon. Not to mention I've picked up 4-5 lbs.

Well, 'tis the season, to eat.

Tell you what. We'll suffer through it together. You run tomorrow morning, and I'll run today after work when it's supposed to be 10° with a wind chill of -5°. Deal??And by the way, I haven't stepped on a scale since before I left for Memphis. And I probably won't until January.

Yeah, I would imagine wind would cut right through sweat pants. Time to invest to in some good running pants or tights. I think you can also get fleece pants if you're regularly facing some serious temps.

UnderAmour Boxerjock Briefs, UnderArmour tights, and UnderArmour running pants over the top. Will keep you warm well into sub-zero temps.

As running pants go, I LOVE the Brooks Utopias. They are perfect for running, and great to wear around the house. The legs on the Under Armor stuff are made too long for me to wear (No Mini-Me style in their catalog). Got in 30+miles on the bike trainer and 7+ miles on the dreadmill this weekend. Decided my victory lap is over and its time to start looking towards next year. Can't wait to get in the pool tonight. Nothing says 20 below wind chills like a swim.

I'm suffering along with you guys that hate cold weather. It's not single digits, but it was WC of 15 this morning and very windy. At least that's what it said on the news as I lay in bed.

Coming off a pretty big mileage week for me ... (10,4,3,6,8,4)...for 35 total.

Going to endure 8 in the cold this evening and come back with mile repeats tomorrow.

Good to know on the UA stuff. I'm a 36" inseam, so I need them cut long.

Knocked out 9 cold miles tonight on snow-covered roads. I think the wind chill was 1° when we started. Only averaged 8:26 pace, but it was a tough run. Snow is tough on the hips, and it makes you engage all those core stabilizing muscles. Between b-ball this morning and tonight's run, I'm super sore right now.

How #####ing tall are you, dude? I'm 6'4" and change, and I barely need a 36" inseam.
Mine's 29" in case you were wondering.2,250 yards in the pool tonight 5 hard sets of 300, hard set of 500 and a cool down of 250 in just over 45 minutes.
You guys need to stop talking about your inseams. You are getting Tri-Man all hot and bothered.-----------------Nothing this morning, but planning on doing 8 cold miles tonight with 3 of them at MP. We will see about that as I am not sure with all the layers I will be able to keep up the pace. Hard to churn the legs with tights and running pants on. Giving it a go though.Have a great day all.

:finger:...but I would get out my 'measuring stick' for these inseams:

---

Yoga/stretching the past two days; lunges/squats today (200/ea, and few buttkicks for Darrin). Back out running for the next five days despite the lingering cold.
All kidding aside. You seem to be priming yourself for a great year. Give the cold some hell out there. I will be doing the same tonight. I am expecting wind chills to be below zero tonight. Fun times.

 I'm 6'3". 34 jeans are floods on me.
It depends on where you wear the pants. When I was bigger the waistline was below the gut and I wore 30's, now it is a bit higher and I wear 32's. I am 5'11" tall.ETA - Actually when I was bigger the gut hung way down below the pants, but I still wear them higher without the gut.

Oh, we're talking about inseams?? When 2Young said his was 29", it got ME all hot and bothered.....
....but then I considered his height (and race) and figured that he probably just forgot a decimal point. :)
Down, big guy! 2Young was talking about his Narnian love slave. He keeps her down the basement for when guests stay over ...

Let's get this place back on track, eh? I've been a slacker and haven't ran since Saturday. Between the cold (virus) and the actual cold temps, I wussed out yesterday. I plan on ditching work right at 3:30 today and hit the road for a few miles. The guilt is eating at me...

I wish I had waited until January, but I got on yesterday :goodposting: Drastically decreasing my workouts, and increasing my food and drink intake has me at my heaviest in quite a few years. I got in a really nice 100, 500, 1000, 500, 100 swim yesterday. My first 500 was at 9:07, and I'm inching towards going sub 9:00 which is when I feel I'm in swimming shape. After work today I'll get in a 22 mile bike ride, and :knocksonwood: tomorrow I'm going to attempt my first run in over 5 weeks (since 11/7 = my last race). I'm hoping to run 1 mile, stretch, walk a half, run 1 mile, stretch, walk a half. Once done, I'll get on my foam roller, which, as Grue stated, is an amazing recovery tool.

3 miles in 30:17 today. Only 48 outside today so I was in full cold weather gear.

Yesterday I had a bad eating day which probably ruined the whole week. I am back on track today.

25 degrees, winds 22mph gusting to 36..... wind chill in the single digits. BUT, after the initial shock of it all, I had a really nice 3 miler today. I settled in quickly, my mind shut off, and before I knew it I was done. Love those!!!

I'll see your nice run, and raise you by a 5-miler with the wind chill at -7°F.

So where does 5 miles on the dreadmill come into this equation?I hate that thing. But I did mine today.

I do like some of the warm weather gear.

Mid-December and we're already going stir-crazy! OK, here's an assignment due after Christmas. How about if we post the following lists for the year that's ending:

- our favorite race (overall)

- our favorite moment within a race

- our most disappointing race (incl. failure to start or finish)

- best workout (whether due to location or pure quality)

- oddest workout moment

- funniest experience in training or a race

- best memory of one of the other guy's experiences this year

- proudest achievement of the year

- specific goal for the year ahead

Edit away, and we can respond after the holiday. What say ye?

Hey, 48 is cold here.Besides it is fun teasing you just a bit.. ok, no more comments about the temps here, and no more bragging about fantasy scores on facebook. :D
Sorry, but 48 isn't cold anywhere. :confused:And like I said on FB, you're treading dangerously closely to being de-friended..... ;)

I like it. It has been another great year and it'll be fun to capture it like this. Only addition I see would be training totals if they've been kept.

:goodposting: I really only had one "A" race this year which makes some of these categories a little boring for me, but it's still fun to look back over the past year and think about some of the other stuff. Reading other people's "funniest experience" ought to be good -- I imagine we're in for another quality round of al fresco pooping stories. Those are always money.

This would make for a great FF Team Name

Out last night for 8 miles with supposedly 3 at MP. Did not even come close, but for whatever reason, I felt I was going faster than I was. I just can't get my legs going with the layers on. I may just run colder with one less layer on my legs so I can get em moving a bit more. Love going out for a run and coming back with ice crystals on the outside of my clothes. I love winter running for that fact alone. Don't ask me why, I just kind of feel like I earn what I put in during the winter.

-----------------

Oh and in on the questions from Tri. I will probably do them next week as I will not be around much the week after Christmas.

Have a great day all.

Yes! Icicles on the eyelashes and eyebrows this morning. My balaclava pushed enough warm, moist, exhaled air up to my face that it froze on the edge of the balaclava and around my eyes. It was actually a comfortable 5 miles in the 5 degree temp - just a steady, easy pace and focused breathing.

 on the list Tri-Man!

Cold sucks, but it can be dealt with as you can always put more clothes on, while at some point you'll make the neighbors squint if you keep taking clothes off. It was a perfect 50 degrees for my first "run" (term used loosely) back this morning. I ran one mile, briskly walked while stretching a half mile, ran a mile, then walked/stretched another half mile. My calf certainly felt tight, while my knee felt great. I don't appear to have any new damage. Post the run, I used the foam roller for 10 full minutes, which seems to have helped.

Yesterday afternoon/evening I got in a nice 22+ mile bike ride. It was my first hour+ (1:07) workout in over five weeks, so it felt good to cross the threshold again. It just feels good to be actually posting some types of workouts on here again.

Ran 3 miles on Monday. A little sore and with lots of layers, I felt like I was running fast and ended up being a slow 8:20 per mile. Took yesterday off and hoping to get motivated to run in the bitter cold (for me) tonight which should be about 15 degrees.

I really hate the cold.

I think I have ITBS

Good stuff here. I've forwarded the link to my wife and asked her to find the foam rollers in the next 48 hours. :-)

Thanks for the link.
