Ran a 10k in June (1 Viewer)

It's confirmed. Road trip is on. Looks like a 993 mile trip to get there. I'll be leaving at noon'ish tomorrow to start the 16.5 hour drive. I'm expecting to get to approx. Memphis the first night (roughly 9:45 of driving) then getting up fairly early to finish the commute to Lexington on Saturday. The Chasers are supposed to be at the finish line around 5 pm. If the true Grue shows up, a lot of that time will be knocked off = I'll need to make sure I'm there quite a bit earlier. After a good night of boozin' with the Chasers I'm going to have to get back on the road to TX likely early in the morning to get back home in time to get my kiddos. Should be interesting!Anyone up for making the trip up for the post party?!
I'd confirm that there is a post party and that most everyone isn't leaving town or calling it an early night to leave early the next day.Have fun in Kentucky. That's one heck of a road trip. I live in NC and can get to Nebreska, Northern WI, Boston, Canada, or the Keys in under 993 miles.
So...am I picking you up on the way?Nice run, and great improvement!

Well FUDGE (only I didn't really say fudge).

Have been fighting a sinus infection for about a month and the doc has said surgery will probably happen again (had surgery in 2008 and 2009)...so another sinus surgery is on the horizon at some point. Trying to get it scheduled but this is not exactly the best time to be missing work...going to see if I can do it in early January and only miss a week or two of training and still be ready for the CM half in april.

Bummer. What kind of surgery?

Endoscopy on 2 of my left sinus cavities...and depending on another opinion of the CT...maybe another.I have what is called Allergic Fungal Sinusitis. And its only in my left side. My sinuses react to the mold and stuff in the air that ends up in everyone's nose. But for me, that left side reacts and creates polyps which then just keep me in perpetual sinus infection.Had that side cleared out twice...but he never went into the frontal sinus before (has been a more risky procedure since its closer to your eye and brain...but apparently there are some less invasive procedures out now).Still not sure he is going in to that one this time or not.

Completed 3 easy miles at 8:51/mile pace and 140 HR.

My final long run of 8 miles tomorrow before my marathon on 10/15. Weather for my race not looking as good as I had hoped. Sunny and 75 degrees is now the forecast.

Doing 8 tomorrow also before my half on 10/15.Race day forecast....low 52, high 75...60% of rain.EDIT...that was this morning's forecast for that far ahead...now it says no rain 48 low and 75 high.Who knows what it will really be by then.

If anyone here needs a hydration belt I just got this Nathan Speed 4 at ##### Sports for a little over $7.

It has a sticker of $45, but was marked down to $9, then I gave then my club member number and it knocked it down to $7. I'd assume ##### is the type of place that if they're on sale at one they're on sale at them all.

Nice...scored a fuel belt helium 2 bottle at TJ Max for $7 last week.I mainly bought it for the 2 extra bottles and the small pack that is perfect for my ipod that I can pull off that belt and put on my other.

Well the Chase guys certainly dropped the ball. Thought we were supposed to be getting updates???

Been a hectic few days, but was a lot of fun with the kids and some good hunting mixed in. I'm happy I was able to juggle everything, but man I'm tired.

Friday was an easy 5mi recovery run. Nothing really to say about a recovery run. 143 @ 9:29

Saturday I ran with my brother who was doing his first ever 7 miler. He's come a long way in a short time. I wish he'd dedicate himself a little more, but I'm thrilled he's out there running. It was a super slow run, but he was feeling it and we had a blast. We decided to push the end to try to get a sense of his max HR since it was apparent it was a lot higher than mine. We ended up at a full sprint at then end and he hit 199  I am pretty sure he's got more than that in him. 128 @ 11:01

Today was a 17 miler. Yesterdays run was less than 12 hours ago so I was curious what I had for today. I was very tight for the first few miles, but finally got into a groove around mile 8. I'm noticing this is becoming a trend lately where it takes a while to settle in. I was rolling thru 12 and started to tighten up again at 14. I started to fade some, but was rather surprised I was able to keep it together and not totally fall apart. Overall this was a great run. 154 @ 9:18

I finished the A Mountain half marathon. I am now convinced I need to stay away from races with the words mountain and marathon in them. I went into this feeling sick as well. I could not take a real deep breath without coughing. I was better then I was on Friday though. Race started out nice enough. Weather was perfect in the 50s and I was feeling good. I had wanted to beat my first 1/2 time. I looked at the garmin and right away I was behind the 8 ball. I had 10 min and change avg pace and I needed below 10 mins. About 2 miles in or so we started the climb up A Mountain and it quickly became apparent there would be no besting of my time. I had no idea how tough that climb was going to be and I ended up walking and coughing. I thought I was sad after my failed 20 miler well this was worse. I had pretty much quit on ever running again as I walked up the hill. At about 2.5 miles to 3 mile mark the winner comes running down the hill at me and he is flying. Yes I got feeling even worse. Mile 4 took me 13:41 to do :hot: Near the top was the picture guy so I picked it up and tried to look like I was having fun. I hope the picture comes out. Then we went down the hill and I picked it up. I said the hell with what I have read I was not gonna break for nothing and if I fell it was gonna be an ambulance ride. I ran down the hill at 9:10 and I hit 6:41 at one time ( almost grue speed :excited: )

I was then happy again and I felt like a woman on hormone therapy watching the hallmark movie of the week. I knew the dream of a pr was over so I just settled in and wanted to finish. I worked on keeping my HR in HM pace and I did.

My garmin says 2:26:27 with 11:01 avg pace

Official results say 2:26:49 with 11:12 avg pace.

I would like to thank young kimberly who I let beat me. I used her to pace for the last 5-6 miles and I felt it was only fair to let her ahead of me. I could have beat her if I wanted to. I may have looked like a #### doing as we both were coming in strong it but I could have done it. My feet are killing me. I did get a rock candle holder with my name on it for completing the Zimmerman triple crown.

* No medal, wtf? I though every half gave you a medal for just completing?

Here is my garmin results if anyone is interested.

I am over my womanly hormone attack as I climbed the mountain. Back to training for the marathon in December. I am hoping to get new tires next week.

Doing a long run with a chest cold is no fun. Going for PR with a chest cold and a big climb just isn't going to happen. Glad you finished and enjoyed yourself.

Team Useless Without Bourbon checking in. Lots of stuff to divulge, but it was a long couple days and a long drive home (so sorry for the :missing: ). A great time was had by all.

And, yes, I know :useless: . We'll take care of that in due time.

I scored a bunch of Boom energy gel http://www.carbboom.com/

Anyone have any experience with it?

I forgot to mention in my report that I had an extraordinary amount of salt build up on my face. Why would that be? It was a LOT of salt.

:goodposting: I'm pretty beat. After I left you guys to go back to the city Turkish and I closed 2 bars down, met some cool people and didn't even check into our hotel until 3:30am. All this after being awake for 45 hours straight.

YO! Bourbon Chase overall report

I believe individual running reports will be posted, but here's my general review. Bottom line: That was a great experience, both for the running achievement and for getting reacquainted with, and getting the chance to meet, a number of the FBGs. Most of us arrived around suppertime on Thursday at Wraith's mom's horse farm (note to self: spend more time in beautiful Kentucky). After putting faces and names to the internet IDs, we headed out to a Lexington burger and beer joint that gruecd spent seemingly half the trip down researching. It turned out to be a totally empty joint at the end of a strip mall. FAIL. Instead, we found a nice place that was in the general entertainment/downtown area. While walking out after a fun and raucous dinner, we passed some older couples ("tri-man's people") and literally had the women glaring at us while the men  and :hifive: us as they remembered their own good ol' days.

Friday morning was a leisurely breakfast (shopping by Wraith and gruecd; excellent cooking by pmbrown and 2Young) before an easy drive to the start of the race south of Louisville at the Jim Beam distillery. They sent several groups off every half hour from the morning through to suppertime, introducing each team and its hometown before the start. We started at 4:45 p.m. Our team introduction: "Useless Without Bourbon ...from the internet." Classic. I was honored to go first, so after a couple of warm-up lunges with Dexter, we were off.

200 miles of running over almost 27 hours is challenging! Tough and hilly running (along with hot days both Friday and Saturday) plus the logistics of traveling between the exchange points (we know of one van that got lost for an hour) and addressing needs for food (not enough) and sleep (almost non-existent  ) is tough. The general cycle was van 1 for 4-4 1/2 hours, then van 2, and repeat the sequence twice more. Along the way, we tracked "kills" ..how many other runners we passed.

As you have seen, pigskinliquors decided to drive over and join us for the finish and post-race party. :pickle: :pickle: Just a 900+ mile drive to have some conversation and a few :banned: before turning around and driving home. :loco: Awesome.

I'm sure much more will follow. All in all, lots of good times with a lot of great guys.

Bourbon Chase update. My legs are ####### sore and I am ####### tireed, and I had the easy runs.

Sand knocked out his runs like a madman, he is quite a running stud. lil'Chad is probably the most athletic guy I have ever met(though he forgot to do the backflips when he handed off to me during our last runs :bag: ). 2Y2BB is short and bald, though he is also a fantatic athlete, Turkish Harem is just ####### mad, he took off after finishing to drinking and forgot to fetch his ID, oh yea, he is also super fast. Dexter, you are a madman, that time you and your friend made it with the cow, I wanna party with you,(probably) and you can run fast also. All of those guys managed to carry my sorry ###, though I did manage to get us lost(damn Tom-Tom) and almost cornholed in back country Kentucky. Oh yea, those were the peeps in van 2. I spent very little time on the run with the people in van 1.

Personally I did the 3.7 leg in 29:50ish, the 3.5 leg in 30:29ish, the 4.3 leg in 40:29 (I remember the time, I am trying to forget the run). For a long time I thought that my 1:56 half was the hardest thing I would ever do, but running that last 3/4 mile of the last leg will probably claim that honor(?) until I try a full marathon.

Seriously, one of the best times I ever had.

A special shout out to Wraith's mom for putting us up. It made everythign real nice.

I am at a Days Inn in Byron, Georgia for the night, but as soon as I get home and settled I will be posting the pics I have on my google sight. Not all of them are of the team, running chicks are secsy.

LIES!!! I'm slow compared to these guys, but add in the fact I was sick for most of September and with little to no running I was even slower for the chase.Good job and I hope you had fun. It's too bad we couldn't find that cocaine.

Yep, never a drug pusher around when you really need one.

I forgot to tell about the very end.

Turkish Harem hand 6.2 for the last leg. He was nice enough to slow down so that we could get the van to the finish before he did. We met the Van 1 peeps there and when TH came in we all got together and ran the last 100 yards or so. It was a great feeling, and it was well earned by everyone involved.

You never really know who someone is when you meet on the internet, but I can testify that the other 11 runnners are great people. They have integrity, honor, and a buttload of humor. I will never forget the time we spent together.

Also meeting piskinliquors was great also. Crazy ####er drove 1000 miles for 7 hours of partying. Helluva guy

Totally wasn't thinking filter when I typed it. It starts with a "D" and ends with an "icks." Major chain.

:goodposting: Agreed...came off antibiotics last week for this month long sinus infection...already starting to feel it and the doc is calling in another round and a steroid for me this week to get me through the half this weekend.Nice job prosopis.

I finally made it home. I have to return a car to it's owner and pick up my truck, when I re-get back home I will upload the pics I have from the Chase.

So where did you guys finish???

I beginning to wonder if you guys just got together to cornhole and made Darren run a few miles every few hours for entertainment.

No results available as of yet. We were in 30th at 1/3rd in averaging 8:03 MM and dropped to 45th at the 1/2 way point, but dropped our average MM to 7:53. I did not see an update from the BC on FB after the 1/2 way point. Absolutely amazing experience and I'll try and do some form of RR by the weekend. It'll be hard to put in perspective 12 guys running continually for 27 hours and everything that went on in between. I am not to proud to state that of all the things I've done, I have never been so sore and so wore out.

I had some friends that did the Blue Ridge Relay this year which is basically the same concept in the mountains. They finished second in their cat and all they talked about was how hard it was to rinse and repeat the effort.

Small correction to my Bourbon Chase post of where we stood at certain points. I found the FB Notes that provided updates.

At Perryville, which I think was the 1/3rd point, we were 40th of 262 teams averaging 8:02 MM

At Danville (1/2 way) we were 32nd averaging 7:53 MM

At Four Roses (2/3ds of the way) we were 48th averaging 8:03 MM.

Nothing yet for finishing times, but I'd bet we didn't fall too far off the average MM pace, maybe "slipping" to around 8:08 for the full 200 miles.

I will also try to put together some kind of RR. In the meantime, I'd be curious to see how everyone's pacing held up throughout the event. Here's mine:

10/7 at 7:48 PM: 6.22 miles in 43:23.65 (6:59/mile)

10/8 at 5:15 AM: 5.22 miles in 36:03.07 (6:55)

10/8 at 1:39 PM: 6.44 miles in 50:10.87 (7:48)

Overall 17.88 hilly-### miles at 7:15 average pace, which I honestly faster than I expected for less than 6 days post-marathon. It was probably 30 degrees warmer on my last leg relative to my earlier two, and my hamstring was barking pretty bad at that point.

I'm tired as hell today, but overall not a whole lot worse in terms of soreness than I was before the thing started.

Overall an awesome, awesome experience.

Here are the pics I managed to take. Some of them are so obviously race stalking, at one point I ceased to care if the stalkees knew what I was doing.

I had the camera on fast shutter for the start and got triman in a lot of picks as he started us off.

I am loading all the pics to facebook, but they will take a while.
