I tell you, 14-15mph avg. is really tough on a MTB setup dragging around 285lbs in total.
This is like every ride I go on.
Yeah, but 80% of that wight is your quads...
I've got a question for some of you here, mostly related to watches, computers, etc.
When cycling I use a simple Cateye Strada wireless computer with cadence. Lately I've been wanting to record HR on the bike as well and so I threw my Polar RS300X into the mix and use that separate watch/HR monitor along with my Cateye for the speed/distance when on the bike. It's a pain though, having to deal with two different systems.
Question is....is there a cost effective (being the key word here) watch/computer that will do both? Or am I going to have to shell out $300-400 for something fancy?
Do you want recorded data or is real time readings enough. If the later I have something laying around I could sell cheap.
If you want data afterwards, take a look at the ibike units on ebay. This will get you everything plus power for around $100-$200 used.
Thanks BnB but no iPhone so ibike won't work. Looking for recorded workouts as I'm a data nerd. Might bite the bullet and check out the Garmin 310XT or 910XT
Having had and broke the 310XT and upgraded to the 910XT, there is no hesitation when I state you should spend more for the 910. It is absolutely amazing. Insane swim analytics have been added and the size and shape and much improved from the 310.

You guys - going from cheap solutions to the 910 in, like, 2 posts. And FWIW I've not heard good things about the reliability of the iBike (older versions). If you really end up getting into biking and want power a powertap wheel is the way to go, IMO. Need the Garmin to go with it, though.
If you want a do it all watch the 310 is great except it has no lap swim features (and I love my 310). If you want lap swim capabilities I've heard the 910 is the shizzle. As always, the place to dig in is
DCRainmaker. I have no need of the 910 - I can barely swim as it is.
BTW, the 310 (or 910) + powertap + a PC with GoldenCheetah = data heaven. I should know - I am an addicted data slut.
