So yeah, this weekend really sucked. Did an hour on the elliptical saturday without much pain...other than the pain of staring at the seconds ticking off the clock for an hour. Sunday, I did the stairmaster for 30 min, followed by 15 minutes on the rowing machine...again, minimal pain.
It's now been 4 days without running and there really doesn't seem any improvement yet. Saw my primary care physician this morning and ##### wants been to stay off it totally for a week...COMPLETELY stay off it...as in USE CRUTCHES. I think he's crazy but gladly took his script for some 800mg ibuprofen and hydrocodone. Was planning on riding the stationary bike for 30 min today and then doing some weight training. We'll see, I guess.
Bummer. Can you at least wear a firm work boot of some sort to keep the foot more rigid?
Annyong - congrats on your second boy! You don't
have to do speed work ...just use the mileage base and get some early race experience under your belt. Take the long term view I had back in the day - to still be racing strong when my kids were old enough to appreciate it (or like 2Young, to have the youngun start to outrun ya!).
My mileage has been averaging about 35 miles/week ...less than desired, but about the best I could do with snow interruptions and a busy pace of work + dissertation.
I took Friday and this Monday off to create a long weekend to work on the dissertation ..and to get lots of running in, which translated to 48 miles over 4 days:
F: 12 miles, w/11 tempo miles @ 7:51/mile, HR=154
S: 14 miles @ 9:05/mile, HR=142. Five early miles were on a gravel trail iced over with ruts and pockmarks ..beat the hell outta me.
S: 9 miles, w/4 hard tempo miles @ 7:20/mile
M: 13 miles, w/9 tempo miles @ 8:16/mile, HR=153. Similar HR to Friday, but the body was working harder with tired legs and running into the wind the whole way.
