Ran a 10k - Official Thread (13 Viewers)

Just got an email from Go! St. Louis.  Some crazy good/interesting news.

1)  The new format they had to come up with that we ran was loved by almost all.  As a result, they are adding it as a permanent race.  Because SIUE is a college campus, it has to be in late spring (like this year) in order to hold it.  Thus, this will be a yearly event starting next year.

2)  Because of this, they are going to move the original KT82 relay race to the fall.  In the past, the city of Hermann has been opposed because of the big Oktoberfest they do each year (it's a German town).  But, it looks like it's going to be in September.  And they are doing one THIS YEAR and then continuing every year in the fall.  Next 2 dates are 9/14/19 and then 9/12/20.

3)  We get guaranteed entry if we want it.

4)  We get $100 off an entry if we want it.

I'm not even sure whether to ask or not, but just throwing that info out there............................
Unfortunately, if you do decide to do it this year, I'm out.  Packers/Vikings that Sunday...

Thanks for the updates BnB!

side note - I've been avoiding the path around the lake near my house to avoid redwing blackbirds this time of year.  When on a different route recently and one of those ####ers attacked me near a strip mall.  Can't win for trying.

Duck moved up from 184 to 171.  Pace improved by 1:38 over that section.

He's 8 minutes behind his 30 hr pace but not has a 96 min cushion v. the cutoff so he'd gain 34 minutes on the cutoff in that section.  Pack is thinning with him in a group of 14 runners hitting the last station between 4:56 and 5:00.  I think things have thinned enough that his placement gains or losses going forward will give an accurate picture how he is faring vs. his peers.

As a proud Garmin stock holder Im really disappointed they dont offer a "live tracking" where he can publish his data for us to see in near real-time.  Im talking all data like pace, HR, running dynamics, etc.  I think this would be a money making service.

Edit:  Or maybe they do - https://www.garmin.com/en-US/blog/fitness/use-garmin-livetrack-track-activities-real-time/

Leaders just checked in at 36.2.  Hammes at 5:20, Bitter at 5:22.  Both are running just under a 9 min pace.

Baby steps toward committing to fall marathon.  Booked hotel in Rehoboth for early December race. Will decide this month between that race (spent past few summers on most the course) or a local out and back in late Nov. Will check out the local option later this month before next set of race increases.

@pbm107 you are leaning Rehoboth dec 7, yes?
I am signed up with hotel reservations, so I am committed. I am looking forward to meeting you and following your training, hopefully @Ned will make his comeback and run the half.

Duck in ### kicking mode and target hunting.

Mile 28.2 at 6:32.  Up to 150th.

Huge gain on his 30 hr pace as his 1 minute off goal.  Better yet, now 150 mins ahead of the sweeper.

Oh...13:36 pace, his fastest of the day.  Wonder if he quacks as he flies past his peers.

I know we throw around the term BMF often, but I think Duck takes the cake.

Pretty sure my wife would kill me if I tried to do it this year. But next year.....

I'm curious, if we were to even try this again, would you guys prefer the camp relay like we just did or a September van relay?

I use this if I’m going somewhere unfamiliar, which emails a live track link to my wife (and whoever else you want). It’s a total phone battery suck though, as you need the app running.

I'd be cool either way.  Both are a different kind of fun.

Through 36.2 miles.  Slowed pace so I'm assuming that was a tough section.  9 hours total.

Go, Duck, Go!
Drop one spot.

8:56 is 8 min off 30hr pace so he lost 7 minutes there.  139 min in front of the sweep, down 11 minutes.  Very good cushion.

That last section had 2000 feet of descent.  If it had any technicality to it then it's easy to bleed time.  Personally my fat are runs lumbers up the climbs better than trying to stay upright on a technical descent on tired legs.

Now he has to climb back up those 2000 ft in the hottest part o the day.  I hope his nutrition is on.  If he can get this section behind him then the next 15 miles are in his wheelhouse.

Now up to 10 drops.  The 76 yo is no longer Mr. DFL and his move in front of two people.  He has 31 min on the sweep.  The new Mr. DFL has the broom on his tail.

29th place has checked in a Duck's next aid station.  Based on what I'm seeing, it will be about two hours before the next Duck sighting.  This section is the toughest thus far with most people reporting so far 1-2 minutes slower than their previous slowest section time.

The guys coming into Pennie Pines mile 48.3 are pacing between 18-19 min/mi.  This climb in the middle of the day is a soul sucker.  Currently at runner 54 which is upper 20% and they are struggling up this beast.

Thanks, I'm going to try this tomorrow.  Do I have to open the app on my phone, or just fire things up on my watch and the phone will automatically do its thing?

7 mile section with about 160 runners on it.  That's about 1.4 runners every hundred yards.  Definitely not lonely yet.

About another hour before we have a Duck arrival at 43.8.  Can't wait for him to kick the hill's butt.  The girl who just checked in has move from 150 to 122 to 101 over the last two segments.  That's pretty impressive.

The 76 yo made the cutoff by 10 minutes and moved up to fourth from last.  One sure broom victim and one with 5 minutes left to get in.  Up to 17 drops.  Bitter has gained a minute back on the last segment.  Maybe the tiding is turning in the race for first.

Latest Pines arrive in 126th spot gain 6 positions with a 19:52 pace.  He was 17 minutes ahead of Duck at the last spot so that gives hope that Duck could move in front of his 30 hr goal pace.  See had budgeted for a 21:42 pace here min/mi pace here  so anything under 20:42 gets him there.

Broom wagon just claimed the youngest male who is 22yo.  Both 22yo females are still kicking tail.

Duck in at 11:22.  Gains 14 spots.  His 19:12 pace indicates he is feeling well.  He's 11 min ahead of 30 hr pace, picking up 19 min over that section.  2h38 min to the good side of the broom.

Short 5 mile section here.  Don't expect anything to great here pace wise.  He budgeted 17:48, but I'm pretty sure he'll be in this aid station a bit restocking his nutrition stores and loading up on fluids.  I suspect he'll wisely give back a few minutes here with his eye on the overall picture.
