A woman ran the NYC Marathon drunk, and was pretty happy with the results.


Her goal going into the New York City Marathon was to engage with the spectators cheering her on — especially since multiple friends were going to be joining her.

"I wanted to eat all the food I saw and then drink whatever the spectators were bringing," Huang said. "That was my plan going into this race. But I didn't expect how much food and drinks there would be."

She started with candy, then "the first guy handed me, I think, a shot of Hennessy," Huang said. "After that, it got really, really lit."

I think something like this happened to me back in the old college-and-LSD days, but the 2 of us have never spoken about it since.
 
It's that time of year for the Red Crab migration on Christmas Island, which is technically part of Australia but is much closer to Indonesia. Over 100 million crabs will crawl from the forest to the sea to breed.

Males will migrate towards the beach first to absorb some moisture before burrowing and waiting to attract a female crab. After mating, the females will then release up to 100,000 eggs each into the ocean during a high tide.

After a couple of attempts, Link became pregnant with "a miracle baby", conceiving "like the Virgin Mary," according to Depaz.

Using a small plane she had rebuilt with her father, Keim launched her turkey delivery mission a few years back after learning of a family living off the land nearby who had little for Thanksgiving dinner. “They were telling me that a squirrel for dinner did not split very far between three people,” Keim recalled. “At that moment, I thought ... ‘I’m going to airdrop them a turkey.‘”

She decided not to stop there. Her effort has grown by word of mouth and by social media posts. This year, she’s delivering 32 frozen turkeys to people living year-round in cabins where there are no roads.

World's Oldest Known Wild Bird Lays An Egg

"The oldest known wild bird in the world has laid an egg at the ripe age of about 74, her first in four years, U.S. wildlife officials said.

The long-winged seabird named Wisdom, a Laysan albatross, returned to Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge at the northwestern edge of the Hawaiian Archipelago and laid what experts estimate may be her 60th egg, the Pacific Region of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service said in a Facebook post this week. Wisdom and her mate, Akeakamai, had returned to the atoll in the Pacific Ocean to lay and hatch eggs since 2006. Laysan albatrosses mate for life and lay one egg per year."

The world's largest iceberg is loose again.

Spanning an area of 3,672 square kilometers (1,418-square-miles) when measured in August – slightly bigger than Rhode Island – the A23a iceberg has been carefully tracked by scientists ever since it calved from the Filchner-Ronne ice shelf in 1986. It remained grounded on the Antarctic’s Weddell Sea floor for more than 30 years, probably until it shrank just enough to loosen its grip on the seafloor. Then, the iceberg was carried away by ocean currents before it became stuck again in a Taylor column – the name given to a spinning vortex of water caused by ocean currents hitting an underwater mountain. Now that the iceberg has broken free, scientists expect it will continue drifting along the ocean currents toward warmer water and the remote island of South Georgia, where it is likely to break up and eventually melt, BAS said in a statement published Friday.

An orca that carried her dead calf for weeks in 2018 is doing so once again

"An endangered Pacific Northwest orca that made global headlines in 2018 for carrying her dead calf for over two weeks is doing so once again following the death of her new calf, in another sign of grief over lost offspring, researchers said. The mother orca, known as Tahlequah or J35, has been seen carrying the body of the deceased female calf since Wednesday, the Washington state-based Center for Whale Research said in a Facebook post.

In 2018, researchers observed J35 pushing her dead calf along for 17 days, propping it up for more than 1,000 miles (1,600 kilometers). The calf had died shortly after it was born, and the mother and her closely knit pod of whales were seen taking turns carrying the dead body.

Hanson, who was able to observe her behavior from a boat on Wednesday, said J35 was draping the dead calf across her snout or on top of her head, and that she appeared to dive for it when it sank from the surface. He said the calf was only alive for a “handful of days.” "
