Random Things You've Found While Looking For Something Else (1 Viewer)

I'll start. I was digging around looking for a receipt for a really old appliance purchase to see how old it was. Instead, I uncovered a picture of me and Hartford Whalers captain Russ Anderson when I was honorary captain of the game for a 1982 tilt between the hometown Whalers (6-17-3) and the Montreal Canadiens (17-5-6). I don't really remember the details other than I won a contest with an all access tour of the arena. The Whalers took it to the Habs 7-4 that night. That was the one and only time I would ever met any future hockey Hall of Famers, as I met Ron Francis, Bob Gainey, Larry Robinson, Steve Shutt, and Guy LeFleur before the game. And by met, I mean I said hi to a bunch of players before the game started. Not often you get to mingle with 5 future HOFers. Of course, I got my picture with Russ Anderson not any of those guys.

Pretty sure I could make bank on the picture, though, as I might get a cool $3.00 from a historian of the current Carolina Panthers. People only WISH they could have been honorary captain for a game for a defunct franchise. Admit it, y'all are just jealous.

What stuff have you peeps uncovered looking for X but uncovering Y instead?

I’ve got nothing for you but I was the Hartford Whaler high school player of the month my senior year of high school. The reason for the telling and the funny thing about that was that my girlfriend’s next door neighbor in her condo was Adam Burt, who was a defenseman for the Whale at the time. Added to that was that my American Legion baseball buddy was a kid named Mike Veisor, whose father was a former goalie and worked for the Whale in some capacity.

The Player of the Month got to tour the locker room and take a picture with a player, and it was funny because the player they’d picked to take the picture? It was Adam Burt, who I’d seen every morning lugging his stuff to practice. We had exchanged pleasantries at times because I always had my equipment in the trunk or the back picking up the girl and had to readjust at times so she could put her stuff in. I didn’t know the guy in the driveway was Burt, actually, so when we met in the locker room we started laughing.

And Veisor’s pop was there to smile and shake hands also. A funny and awesome night.
