Randy Moss Retires (1 Viewer)

n00bs, this is how you fish. take lessons from master lhucks.

Moss the GOAT? Great work, Levi.

Moss is not the best of all time, but he's arguably #2, certainly top 5, and he might be the most athletically gifted player ever to play the game.
:goodposting:
not even close. when you have someone play both ways, special teams and kick, we will talk about the most athletically gifted player.don hutson was the man. He still holds NFL records 60 years after he retired. Feel free to compare him to all the steroid freaks of the past 20 years. He still rocks.
Randy Johnson was taller, faster and could jump higher...I'm not sure what else you'd like to look at. Hutson was the best of his era, but I can assure you he doesn't scratch the stats Randy put up if he played in today's game.
Helluva fastball too.

Hey, remember back when there were 9 teams in the league, all the players had full time jobs during the week and black people weren't allowed in the league? I bet the guy who set records then was way better than any of the guys to play now!!!

Do you feel the same about Babe Ruth? Because Hutson dominated his position like Ruth did.

Mike Lopresti; 2004 article:

Welcome to Randy's world

Randy Moss' team is going to the second round of the playoffs. Randy Moss' team beat the Green Bay Packers for the first time ever in the postseason. That's because Randy Moss' quarterback threw four touchdowns, and Randy Moss' defense intercepted four passes. ... By the way, the team and its other players have names, but why waste the space? Watching Randy Moss the past few days, we have seen the light.

That happened sometime between him sulking away the last few seconds of a game last week, then announcing he didn't care much what his teammates had to say about it, then using a playoff touchdown as an occasion to reach for his pants and wiggle out a faux moon for the benefit of camera and crowd.

Kind of like a child waving his hands and screaming for attention before he jumps off the diving board. Hey! Look at me! Look at me! Look at me!

Because we really couldn't see it, presumably it was a new moon.

In any case, the situation seems clear.

This is a stage built for one. Randy Moss is delivering the longest soliloquy since Hamlet. His team, his offense, the league ... the ENTIRE DAY OF SUNDAY ... has been specially created for his whim and pleasure and promotion.

All for Randy, and Randy for Randy.

We highly resolve that this game of Randy Moss, by Randy Moss, and for Randy Moss shall not perish from this Earth.

And now let's return to the action ...

Randy Moss' team had lost seven of 10 games before Sunday. Randy Moss' coach tried to joke his way out of the slump. Coach Collapse, he called himself.

Randy Moss' coach has a pretty good sense of humor.

Randy Moss' center was one of the guys who complained about Randy Moss leaving the field early last week. So Randy Moss went on national television and basically said his center could stick it in his ear hole.

After Randy Moss scored two touchdowns Sunday, Randy Moss' center said everything was OK.

Randy Moss' team stunned the Packers with a quick touchdown, when one of Randy Moss' running backs broke free for a 68-yard touchdown.

Randy Moss' line provided good protection on the play — including the center Randy Moss told to shut up — so Randy Moss' quarterback could throw the pass.

And in the end, Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre — who has never pretended to pull down his pants during a game, or walked out on his team — was left to consider retirement, because he played so badly against Randy Moss' defense.

It was a great weekend to go on the road. Three visiting teams won and advanced. The St. Louis Rams, the New York Jets and Randy Moss' team.

The only home team to survive won big. The Indianapolis Colts got 221 receiving yards from Reggie Wayne, and he didn't pretend to pull down his pants, either.

Instead, Wayne thanked fellow receiver Marvin Harrison for a crushing block on his last touchdown, and said, "We've been fighting for each other all year."

And of the great season he is having, Wayne added, "I'm always asking myself how I do it. But I'm just glad Peyton (Manning) and coach Dungy believed in me."

He doesn't sound a lot like Randy Moss.

So four teams are left fighting for the NFC Super Bowl spot. Atlanta will play St. Louis Saturday, and Philadelphia will play Randy Moss' team on Sunday.

The Eagles will try to pressure Randy Moss' quarterback, and find weaknesses in Randy Moss' defense. They all want to get to the Super Bowl.

Randy Moss has never been. But lots of other guys have.
And all of this was BEFORE he sulked and whined and quit his way out of Oakland. What a guy!

Baseball has changed less IMHO.

NO RINGS for the quitter! There is a God. :banned:

Chris Carter just said he saw him working out and he is still flat out fast. Quit hating just because the prom queen you married got fat and left you only to get her stomach stapled, turn back into a supermodel who decide to marry the guy that killed your dog "tuck". He'll be fine, but he is old. Why pull a hammy in week 4 when you an save a playoff teams season in week 10?
Like he did for the Titans last year? Yeah, those 6 catches for 80 yards in 8 games with the Titans was awfully impressive.
that titans team was a cluster#### at that point. He was obviously mentally checked out. But how many guys beat Revis last year? If say Ochocinco goes down is it inconceivable they bring him in. It will take a coach who can properly frame his role/control him. In most cases it's hypothetical. In his case it''s empirical. In 2006 we saw a disinterested, ill-prepared and unmotivated guy go through the motions and check out. What happened in 2007-9 in a 'positive' environment with a no nonsense coach?
What happened in the beginning of 2010 with the same no nonsense coach that got him 9 rec for 139 yards in 4 games?Or in MIN where he got 13 rec for 174 yards in 4 games? It seems he had mentally checked out before he arrived at the Titans facility.

Moss is not the best of all time, but he's arguably #2, certainly top 5, and he might be the most athletically gifted player ever to play the game. He would have had a chance to become the best of all time if he hadn't started out in the Randy Ratio offense and moved to the Raiders. It's not like he got to play with Montana and Young for most of his career - he got one year with a fully healthy Brady, and he broke Rice's single season TD record. Culpepper was good, but he had very little success without Moss, and once teams figured him out instead of gameplanning for Moss, he fell off the map entirely. Still, if Moss had anything close to Rice's work ethic, he wouldn't have sucked for the Raiders the way he did, so it's not like he's without blame.
Deion Sanders and Bo Jackson beg to differ.

1. No he didn't- When Ruth hit 54 HRs in 1920 the St Louis Browns hit 50 AS A TEAM- and they had the second highest # of HRs in the league. In terms of player to player comparisons Ruth lead the league in OPS, slugging and WAR for 13 straight seasons and is still the career leader in those categories and his single season records stood for decades. By 1960 Hutson's single season receiving record had been broken 7 times and his single season TD record matched. Since then his career TD record has been almost doubled and his yardage almost tripled by Jerry Rice. Ruth's dominance is not nearly matched by Hutson.2. Yes- Ruth's numbers should be downgraded due to the time frame he played in.

I dont think too many people are hating on Randys ability, at least I hope not. If you do not believe that boy was a talented beast, your on the wrong message forum. With that being said, his attitude and work ethic on SUNDAY, was unacceptable at times. Some people do not respond well to certain things, Randy did not respond well to authority. Just like in any gig, some people if not motivated no matter how much you make, your gonna just do what it takes to get by....thats how Randy performed sometimes.

His ability to do what it takes to win football games, and thats score, was uncanny. He has issues, it dont change how good he actually was when motivated.

great player bad person i hope that he goes to church and finds a reason to be better to people in the future so that he can save his immortal soul from eternal damnation and hellfire

Moss had an amazing career. Moss is what you get if you take Jerry Rice, make him a step faster and several inches taller, and make him a better jumper.

Oh, and unfortunately, remove the work ethic.

Moss > Rice
Fish weren't biting so you decided to use dynamite? :lmao:
 Rice has his own planet, no one is even remotely close...no one! These kind of posts from LHucks should be reason to block someones posting ability. lolI mean if anyone in the world thinks someone is better than Rice, you have no concept football or knowledge of the game. Strong words I know, but they are true words. I think its the only thing that is not debatable it sports.

Especially given that his best years were when three quarters of the league's regulars were overseas fighting a war.

Moss is gonna retire for half a year (until he sees who's good and needs a WR) and will come back for another run.
:goodposting:
Honestly he'd probably be better for a team with 1/2 a season (so he's not worn out come playoffs).
Worn out?How worn out can someone get by leisurely trotting downfield and using their hands to give a mild shove to the defender rather than just reaching up to catch the ball?

According to the Warren Commission and the House Select Committee on Assassinations, as President Kennedy waved to the crowds on his right with his right arm upraised on the side of the limo, a shot entered his upper back, penetrated his neck, slightly damaged a spinal vertebra and the top of his right lung, exited his throat nearly centerline just beneath his Adam's apple, then nicked the left side of his suit tie knot. He then raised his elbows and clenched his fists in front of his face and neck, then leaned forward and towards his left. Mrs. Kennedy (already facing him) then put her arms around him in concern. Governor Connally also reacted after the same bullet penetrated his back creating an oval entry wound, impacted and destroyed four inches of his right, fifth rib bone, exited his chest just below his right nipple creating a two-and-a-half inch oval sucking-air chest wound, then entered just above his right wrist, impacted and cleanly fractured his right wrist bone, exited just below the wrist at the inner side of his right palm, and entered his left inner thigh
THis really only a comment on your sig. They don't make bullets like that anymore!

So if he skips the first 8 games and then signs with a team, does that mean he's already taken half the plays off for the season or will he still take half off over the second half of the season?

So who else takes plays off? Seems everyone heard Moss admit he does, so it just gets regurgitated and held against him as if he's the only WR to not sell a pass when the call is a run to the opposite side.

Won't last.If it does, it's kind of a good move, almost Barry Sanders like.I for one, think he's easily still a Pro Bowl caliber player when he wants to be.
Not even close to Sanders like.
This. Moss is only in competition for #2 all-time in rec td's b/c he is tied with Owens and who knows if he is coming back. Barry was one "Barry Year" away from getting one of the most sought after records in all of pro sports and still at the top of his game. Please.
I think he means 'sanders-like' as in the way that Barry skipped every training camp and showed up like 3 days early and said "i'm ready to run for 1600 now', not his bizarre and selfish retirement near the record.
No not even "Sanders-Like"Randy Moss had arguably one of the best seasons ever, but I can name a few WRs who are better then him all-time.Bye Randy, with you and Favre gone now, no one can get burned by you guys in fantasy leagues.
He almost burned me but I traded him for Sjax and Harvin when he moved to Minny, when everyones eyes went to saucers. I burned a late first on him :bag: but I felt the trade made up for it nicely.Oh well, when he was trying he was amazing to watch. Saddest thing about him is he had the potential to be the best ever, if could have just shut the hell up, worked his butt off, and gave every play 100%. But almost no one does that, especially not the ones who are handed God-given freakish natural ability, which is Jerry Rice is and may always be the GOAT.

How obvious is this that it is a temper tantrum because teams are not knocking on his door with big huge contracts?

Honestly, I was surprised when the ESPN scroll today said that Moss was a 6-time Pro Bowler. Looking it up, it is actually 7, but considering the way some talk about him, it is still surprising that he only made 7 Pro Bowls out of 13 seasons. By comparison, a generational peer, Marvin Harrison, outdid him in that regard, making 8 out of 13. Not that I think Pro Bowl nods are that important, as I've said for years that they are overrated, but it is just interesting.

Also, while Moss only made 7 out of 13, Jerry Rice at one point made 11 Pro Bowls IN A ROW!

What an amazing talent and game-breaker. I know he's much maligned, but I doubt there's anyone with as many 50+ yard TD receptions as Moss.
Jerry Rice: 36Randy Moss: 29
...and look who has more, lol.
Rice played 8 more seasons.
Rice played 7 more seasons; he had 20 total, if you count his one game in 1997. Moss has given up after 13 seasons. And, as I'm sure you could have guessed, it doesn't matter; in Rice's first 13 seasons (including that 1997 season), he had 31 TDs of 50+ yards.

Moss has played 13 seasons. Through 13 seasons, Rice had 33 TDs of 50+ yards. I love when people bring up Rice's longevity like it's a bad thing. Rice outperformed everyone (including Moss) during his prime, and then continued to play for years at a level no one has ever matched past the age of 35. Moss had a lot of natural talent. But Rice stands alone at the top. It's silly to argue otherwise.

Only played against white people...not a really a consideration...and I am white before anyone gets upset...
