Pretty straight forward. One guy is an aging elite talent who is still putting up numbers but the end of the road is coming near. His value is falling and falling fast. Welker, on the other hand, is a few years younger, is a PPR monster, but is coming off a majory injury and his 2010 season is in doubt. At best, there's a lot of uncertainty surrounding him. Then there's the idea of whether they benefit from each other on the field. Will Welker's value/production fall after next year if Moss is no longer around? Will Moss do well this year if Welker isn't in the mix?

So, if you owned Welker, would you trade him for Moss? If you owned Moss, would you trade him for Welker?

For a WR that relies on quickness and elusivness, I think a major knee injury really sets Welker Back and he will never be the same.

Good question. I personally think that Moss will be dropping out of the elite WRs very soon, perhaps this season. It's mostly a hunch based on the way he's battled injuries the past two seasons and the way we've seen the discrepancy between his good and bad weeks widen. However, with Moss, I feel pretty good about him being a solid WR2 for 4 or 5 more seasons (if he wants to). Randy Moss with 50 catches still probably nets you 8-10 TDs.

Do we think that Welker will ever put up a season like he did in 2008 again? He'll miss next year. Then in 2011, if Moss's skills erode, or the Patriots offense continues to come back to earth, or Edelman gets into the mix, what does that do to Welker? If Welker isn't catching 100+ passes, then what is he? Is 80 catches for 800 yards and a few TDs good enough? I might sound like I'm jumping to conclusions but I'm really just thinking out loud.

Moss has to be the pick. The guy just put up a top 3 season in every FF league I'm in, PPR & non-PPR. Brady wasn't 100% and we just found out he had a separated shoulder for the last few weeks of the season. He's towards the end of his career. But imo he still has at least three years of WR1 numbers in him. Plus there's just no way to know how well or fast Welker is going to recover.

Injuries may be catching up with Moss, but the guy separated his shoulder in Week 5 @ Denver then went..

8-129-3

5-69-0

6-147-1

9-179-2

... over the following 4 weeks.

Personally, I'd still stick with Moss.

Can I pick neither?

I'm unloading Welker on teams I have him, and I would be doing the same if I had Moss. I often find Welker + a bit = Santonio Holmes which is great from my pov.

I would like to say Brandon Tate, speculatively, is a very good sneaky pickup. If I were the Pats, I'd draft a QB this year to tutor under Brady for 3-4 years and see what happened (a la Aaron Rodgers GB). In which case Tate and the new QB could be coming into an offensive inheritance right at the perfect time.

I agree with this.Welker pre-injury was the answer in PPR leagues, but I'll take Moss going forward.

Welker is a guy I would be trying to unload. He is no spring chicken himself and will not likely do anything next year given the severity of his injuries and how late in the season they happened. By the time he is healthy (two years) who knows how good Brady will be?

I believe Moss has two more years of elite and probably two more years of good but not great fantasy production left. I'll take that. Plus, I know Moss can be great without Welker; we don't know whether Welker can do anything if he is the guy who draws the double team coverage and the team's best CB.

Neither is on my shopping list.

I think Welker has been the beneficiary of a friendly system. He was nothing special on the Dolphins. Then he went the Patriots where everyone was focusing on Moss and put up monster stats because all of the short trash was wide open. He's a good player, but he doesn't get those opportunities without 81 split out wide. In terms of raw talent alone he's probably not a top 20 WR in the league. Certainly not someone I would try to build around in dynasty. Add the knee injury to the equation and his future is in doubt. By the time he's back to 100%, Moss may be further in his decline.

I would rather have Moss. He probably only has a couple good years left, but his height and coordination should allow him to make some downfield catches and some cheap red zone TDs even after he has lost a step (which has arguably already happened).

I tend to agree with this, which is why I'm thinking I might take:Welker/Edelmanover Randy MossI can't see any reason why Edelman won't pretty much duplicate Welker's production while he is out, with an outside chance at replacing him all together. If he doesn't, and Welker comes back in 2010 fine, then, well, you'd have Welker. If it's just a straight Welker vs Moss on their own merits, though, I would take Moss, even though I'm not real pumped at his prospects past 2010.
