Randy Moss (1 Viewer)

I am trying to work through a WDIS and am contemplating whether I should give Moss additional consideration since he is returning to Oakland. Any opinions whether he will have added motivation to show up a former team? He's the kind of player I hate to bench when he has a chip on his shoulder.

Kind of reminds me when "Gretzky returned to St. Louis". That middle stop for both will be nothing more than "blips" in their careers. In fact, I think he would take it easy on them since AD did remove him from football purgatory...

You gotta love that the raiders play man D in the secondary. Welker is too good to double team Moss all day, if anyone should get more attention at this point it's Wes because he's tearing secondaries apart lately. Combine that with the fact that Randy would want to show is old team up after they said he was slow had lost a step and has no heart. I think he's a number 1 WR this week, and all year long when you start to get a little down on the guy he produces for you again. This week is that time. Right in time for the semi-finals.

:pickle: Seeing how Vincent Jackson got behind this defense really got me interested in this matchup despite Oakland being a generally good passing D. Also, on your man-to-man comment, I too was thinking with Asomugha they may not immediately double-cover Moss, hoping Asomugha can win that matchup.

I think they might use the Jets stradegy and put Asomugha their best corner on Welker, like the jets did with Revis and double team Moss over the top with their second corner. But with Moss's spead and leaping ability I'll take him one on one against anyone, so I hope you're right. I think Moss will definitely have a chance for a few big catches and some TDs, its whether or not Cassel gets it to him. You still gotta like this match up and the intangible of Moss wanting to stick it to them.

Nnamdi Asomugha scares me. But with the Pats losing more D players this week, I expect that the Raiders will score some points at least this week at home, forcing NE to actually score to win. I will be starting Moss and it is too difficult to bench him any week, especially in the playoffs.

a small sub-plot, Cassell's father passed away yesterday. Not expecting a Farve Monday Night type performance, but perhaps some aggression or motivation to rack-up a lot of points/yards.

trying to decide between him and d. bowe.
I have a similar dilemma... with Bowe, Moss and Colston and can only start 2.Right now I'm leaning toward Colston and Bowe and leaving Moss on the bench. Tough call.Moss has been killing me since I traded for him. Started him every week except the one where he went for 125 yards and 3 TDs.

Be careful if you're thinking about starting Moss this week.

He may have a Pavlovian response to stepping on that field, and he'll remember that he's a quitter at heart.

and remember that he's a quitter

a DOMINANT WR with a vendetta against his former team that surrounded him

with garbage can players, and then unceremoniously dumped him for the 110th pick in the draft, AKA John Bowie.
fixed.Start Moss with confidence. :)

No matter how many words you type, it's still spelled Q-U-I-T-T-E-R.

With Al Davis as the owner you might as well quit.

#####!!! all sympathy to the family but:Coach Bill Belichick said Wednesday that the father of Patriots QB Matt Cassel died Monday night, and that his starter left the team to be with his family. Belichick said he didn't know when the player would return.

(Updated 12/10/2008).

Fantasy Analysis

No word has been given on Cassel's status for the Patriots' game at Oakland in Week 15. He was expected to have a good but not great game as we figure New England to run the ball a lot. They may run it even more if Kevin O'Connell starts for them against the Raiders. We'll continue to monitor the situation this week leading up to Sunday. Our condolences go out to the Cassel family

I picked him up specifically for this game!!

If you want to quit, fine. Just give back all the money you stole.

....so it can be spent....on...Javon.......Walker? <_<

Pulling it back towards OP .....

I am struggling for a WR #3 and pulled Gaffney for this matchup towards a potential start. Correct me if I am wrong but hasn't the vast majority of #2/#3 WR's put up the numbers vs Oakland? While his personality does not seem to go this way you have to assume Asomugha has had this one circled. Seems to me the only consistent thing about the Raiders this year is that Miller gets his potential 30-60 yards and Asomugha shuts everyone down.

Any player who gives an honest effort is fine with me. That list would not include Randy Moss.

He made up for all that last season; it's not even worth belittling him over IMHO. He's been a worker everywhere, and put up good stats everywhere but Oakland. We love him again.Leaning toward Moss over Calvin Johnson, given Calvin's QB issue. I expect Cassell to play, however.

Wide receiver Randy Moss bypassed all Raiders-Patriots questions by blowing past reporters and offering no comment.

Raiders wide receiver Nnamdi Asomugha, however, told New England reporters by conference call as well as Raiders reporters in Alameda he had no problems with how Moss conducted himself as a Raider.

“He was a great teammate and I’ll tell anybody this. And some people will be shocked when I say this but he was probably one of the most friendly, most competitive guys that I’ve been around since I’ve been in the NFL,” Asomugha said.

`I’ve got nothing but respect for him and I knew that it was going to turn around for him when he left. He was kind of upset here. Pretty much with the scheme and the way things are ran over here.

“He came from somewhere else and he just didn’t agree with a lot of things. So, you know, he might have chose not to put his best foot forward when that stuff was going on. But you always knew he had the talent. He was always a good teammate and always a cool dude and I’ll tell that anybody. That’s the truth.”

– Asomugha told Patriots writers that Moss helped build his confidence after moving to cornerback full time after playing safety.

Asomugha said Moss complimented him his physical attirbutes and skill set and helped him as a young player.

“He would tell me that receivers hate that type of stuff. They hate bigger corners,” Asomugha said. “This was in 2005 when I had just moved from safety so I wasn’t really that sure of myself. But hearing things like that from a guy like Moss helped me with my confidence. I’m like, `If Moss is telling me this stuff, then I’ve got a chance.’

“He would help me out with different ways to play coverages that receivers hate to go against, just different nuances that can get under a receiver’s skin. I’ve always kept those things in my pocket and have been grateful to him for that.”

– Asomugha said not expect to see him shadowing Moss, not with Wes Walker (96 receptions, 1,002 yards on the other side.

He made an honest effort to spend his whole signing bonus in Vegas if thats what you mean.

So if Cassel misses the game on Sunday because of the death of his father does anyone dare start Moss?
No way do I start Moss with anyone but Cassell at QB. That said, I highly doubt Cassell misses a game with his team's playoff hopes hanging in the balance. Hopefully this doesn't come off unsympathetic, but death is a fact of existance and I dare say most parents would not want a child to drop important things in their lives to grieve. Life is too short.

People deal with grief in all sorts of ways. Just because Cassel is there at practice doesn't mean he is really "all there". Nobody can simply turn their emotions on an off, but hopefully Cassel will have too much football on his mind to think of his Dad for a few hours this weekend.
