Rank the LTs and RTs (1 Viewer)

I think I know offensive skill players very well.

I think I know IDPs fairly well.

I know very little about offensive linemen. Everyone knows Orlando Pace and Walter Jones as the big names at LT, but I know little about most RTs and don't have a good feel for the majority of the LTs.

Why is this in the IDP forum? Because of DE matchups. Most will agree that you sit your RDE who's up against an elite LT, and you start your DEs facing rookies. The problem is, there's a huge gray area for me (and I suspect most) in between.

So, how does the breakdown look at LT and RT? I'm not looking for a 1-32 ranking, but three tiers would be useful, I think.

This is such an obscure subject and so devoid of statistics, you might consider using Madden NFL ratings as a basis for discussion.

I'm hoping for someone who really knows football and watches the trenches. I love the game, I understand the schemes fairly well... but my eye is drawn to the skill players and I never played real tackle football, so my understanding and observation of OLs is pretty weak.

I see what you're getting at, but redman is right, this is kind of obscure. I mean, a tackle who isn't playing well might get more help on his side from a tight end or something. In tough matchup decisions I usually look at what team my DE is facing and then look at previous gamebooks on nfl.com to see how other DE's did against him. For instance if you have a RDE, check how the LT he is going up against did against previous pass rushers. I guess it helps if you can find another team that runs a similar defense or even a similar type of DE (ie. speed rusher, power, situational, etc). It has worked out for me from time to time, but its not a perfect science by any means. If you are just looking for week to week fillers, I suggest doing some homework and checking out the sacks allowed by offense on nfl.com http://www.nfl.com/stats/teamsort/NFL/OFF-...amp;_1:col_1=11 and see who is giving up sacks for that team and then find and exploit a matchup, like Elvis Dumervil or Kenard Lang this weekend. Good luck.

What I get from cracker's link:

Scoreboard Stats Standings Player NewsSTATS LLC. Copyright © 2006 by STATS LLC. All rights reserved.
Click Stats >>> Tacklegives you stats for offensive linemen, sacks allowed and penalties accrued.
It would take a lot of time to compile these one by one in a spreadsheet but if someone did this I do think it would be a nice tool. Especialy because of the historical data.Or you can just use Crackers link and look it up on a case by case basis. But it won't tell you probabilities of Lineman giving up sacks compared to others without a complete list.
