Ranking of the Most Successful NFL Franchises (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
After reading some post on here about how bad Detroit is and then how bad Al Davis is & how the NFL should offer the Raiders help, I thought I would put together a list of the most successful NFL franchises to date for your debate.

The Ranking order I did, to start, was: SB Wins, SB Appearances, Playoff Appearances & NFL history prior to SB 1. There certainly can be a debate on weather Minnesota is more successful than the Jets despite despite the fact they never won a SB game.

The stats are from NFL.com & it appears that the Baltimore/Indianpolis Colts stats are combined while the Cleveland Browns Past/Present stats are combined & the Baltimore Ravens have their own team stats.

Also, I believe the 2007 Playoff Appearances are not accounted for in the table below, the history on NFL.com only go up to 2006.

And note, according to this list, Al Davis is in the Top 5 most successful NFL men in the history of the league, he doesn't need anyone's help despite the past few poor seasons.

I am sure this list is not definitive, but what are your all thoughts...

alright, it doesn't look like the table posted very well...here it is again

why is it so hard to post tables?

You should include the Houston Oilers with the Tennessee Titans - and the St. Louis Cardinals with AZ, etc.

where is the old Browns franchise supposed to be included?

Obviously it isn't really "fair" to call the Texans the worst franchise.

The Lions are the worst franchise in the previous 30 years, but they were pretty good in the 50's!

why is it so hard to post tables?
Take the data you want and paste it into Word. Make it all in courier font (or some other font that uses the same amount of space for each character). Then, line it all up in Word using the space bar and removing all tab spacing. Paste that back in here with the code tags around it.

Why would the Giants be 4 and the Redskins 7 if:

- they both have 3 SB wins

- Redskins have 1 more SB appearance

- Giants are 16-23 in the playoffs and the Redskins are 23-16

Is this where the pre-SB history comes into play?

Just based on SB period - Oakland should then be 4, 'skins probably 5, Packers 6 and Giants 7.

The Giants had some great teams from the 30s through the 60s. Once Baugh's career started winding down, the Redskins did nothing until the 70s. Also, I think the Giants have appeared in more championships than anyone else, but I could be wrong.

Fans who bring up history from the Pre-Super Bowl era or even 30+years ago are really grasping at straws when trying to explain why their franchises are successful. A lot has changed since Hawaii was just a bunch of islands and not a state.

I'm with the Frankford Yellow Jackets. They went 14-1-2 in 1926. Probably Al Davis was managing them before he had Alzheimer's and was embalmed.

Those who want to ignore the pre SB era are just said their teams do not have any history prior to SB1.Sorry, there was a league before then...and many of the teams that were successful then were the backbone for this league.
