Rashad Jennings (1 Viewer)

I was reading a lot of early pre-season hype about Jennings stealing short yardage carries from MJD and being the handcuff. That talk seemed to fizzle the past couple weeks. I caught a quick glimpse of him last night vs the skins and saw him make a catch for 20+ breaking three to four tackles, bloodying one guys nose and busting up anothers shoulder. Obviously I'm dealing with a small sample size here but he looked good. Does anyone know anything about this guy and is he still considered MJD's cuff?

They cut Chauncey Washington and Alvin Pearman today. Greg Jones (fullback) and Jennings are all that's behind MJD now. Be happy. He's the #2 sharer with Greg Jones, and as the 250th player taken in the draft (7th round) that's pretty good. You didn't see much of him in the 4th preseason game because they don't typically play important players much in that game to avoid injury. Again, be happy. He'll get some carries, but it won't be anything close to RBBC, and MJD is one of the best goal line backs around so don't expect a consistent role there. He is what he is, a good backup who will along with Greg Jones give MJD an occasional breather, and should MJD go down he'd still share carries with Jones.

Greg Jones is the one to watch if anything is gonna be stolen from MJD...

I've been hearing that since Gregs Rookie year. If I were to handcuff MJD it would be Rashad.

Greg Jones MIGHT steal the OCCASIONAL carry from MJD, but MJD is one of the best goal-line RBs in the NFL, so I wouldn't be too worried about that happening. If MJD were to get hurt, Jennings and Jones would probably split carries. Jennings, however, is more similar to MJD, though, and if one of these two were to seize the backup job, I'd bet on him. Jones is more of a power back, while Jennings possesses more burst, agility, wiggle, etc.

:hophead: That's been my position on Jennings all along. He's a small school kid (or lesser known - Liberty) and was a workhorse, much like a Matt Forte, DeAngelo Williams or Brian Westbrook (Villanova). He slid in the draft from a First Day pick to Round 7 and has been overlooked by many - but he has the skillset to step up and be the guy if MJD goes down.Considering MJD has NEVER had a feature back workload, I'd grab him with a late flier and especially if I have MJD.

MJD, great back that he is, has worn down some late in the year even with a much lighter work load. I think Jones/Jennings get a substancial share of the carries (8-10 per game) in the hope of keeping MJD fresh. My guess is that Jones gets a bigger share of those since his running stats have always been decent when Fred was out and he is the far better blitz guy. No reason MJD wouldn't still keep the critical GL role. So I have MJD at about half way between his last year's load and as fulltime carrier - thus closer to the 5th than 2nd RB on J'ville's low production offense IMO. But no one in the know has said this - just what I think makes sense if you want MJD to stay the stud you need to compete.

MJD owner here. With the shin contusion injury and the fact that he's my #1 RB, i've been going back and forth on whether or not to grab Jones/Jennings off the WW.

If you own MJD, are you getting Jones/Jennings as a handcuff? If so, which one?

Jones. If Drew goes down, I'd expect Jones/Jennings to get a similar # of carries, with Jones being in on 3rd down (for his blocking skills, but that should translate into more catches as well) as well as maintaining his goal-line role. Similar carries/yards from both with an edge to Jones in receptions and a big lead in TDs.

I'm not gonna handcuff MJD. I think it'd basically be a RBBC if MJD goes down, & that offense isn't good enough to waste a roster spot on a backup. I'll count on my RB depth I drafted.
