I was reading a lot of early pre-season hype about Jennings stealing short yardage carries from MJD and being the handcuff. That talk seemed to fizzle the past couple weeks. I caught a quick glimpse of him last night vs the skins and saw him make a catch for 20+ breaking three to four tackles, bloodying one guys nose and busting up anothers shoulder. Obviously I'm dealing with a small sample size here but he looked good. Does anyone know anything about this guy and is he still considered MJD's cuff?
They cut Chauncey Washington and Alvin Pearman today. Greg Jones (fullback) and Jennings are all that's behind MJD now. Be happy. He's the #2 sharer with Greg Jones, and as the 250th player taken in the draft (7th round) that's pretty good. You didn't see much of him in the 4th preseason game because they don't typically play important players much in that game to avoid injury. Again, be happy. He'll get some carries, but it won't be anything close to RBBC, and MJD is one of the best goal line backs around so don't expect a consistent role there. He is what he is, a good backup who will along with Greg Jones give MJD an occasional breather, and should MJD go down he'd still share carries with Jones.
Greg Jones is the one to watch if anything is gonna be stolen from MJD...
Greg Jones MIGHT steal the OCCASIONAL carry from MJD, but MJD is one of the best goal-line RBs in the NFL, so I wouldn't be too worried about that happening. If MJD were to get hurt, Jennings and Jones would probably split carries. Jennings, however, is more similar to MJD, though, and if one of these two were to seize the backup job, I'd bet on him. Jones is more of a power back, while Jennings possesses more burst, agility, wiggle, etc.
