12 Team, Standard ESPN League - Pick #2

Set-up: 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 D/ST, 1 K | 7 Bench

QB: Luck, Goff

RB: Bell, Howard, Cohen, N Chubb, A Blue

WR: Hilton, A Cooper, Fuller V, Garcon, DJ Moore, C Ridley,

TE: Reed

D/ST: Chargers

K: Bryant

- Chubb and Blue were my last two picks (want to see how Browns pan out with Hyde/Duke/Chubb; Blue was just a last pick if Miller somehow is injured but possibly will drop).

- DJ Moore & Ridley I want to believe are sleepers, especially when Funchess goes does then Moore is more utilized (let's be real, Funchess is on and off a lot); Ridley seems promising.

- Reed was my best choice since two picks ahead Rudolph was taken and six picks ahead Olsen was taken.

- Charges seemed the next best defense (correct me if I'm wrong) since Jags, Rams, Vikings, Ravens and Eagles defenses were picked prior to me. I thought about the Broncos defense but the Charger's last season were pretty good).

Leave your question if you want me to rate yours too, thanks!

I give it a solid C. Just an average team and nothing to get excited about. You are very thin at RB and TE.

QBs - not bad, provide some luck with Luck. Goff is a solid backup provided Luck is 100%. Goff won’t lose you games if he has to start. He could even  take another step forward this year.  I don’t really see the Rams getting away from Gurley & airing it out like crazy.

RBs - Bell is obviously rock solid. Top 3, he’ll be a beast. I’m a little less confident in Howard. Bears are claiming they want him as a 3-down back, but he’s got hands of stone. My friends in CHI tell me that experiment won’t last. You’ve got Cohen, so if that happens, at least you gain a flex player out of it. But it’s a weird situation. Ideally Howard is the man, and Cohen is a borderline startable gadget player, better in RL than FFB. And even in the event that Cohen is a viable flex & Howard is a top 15 RB, you have to have both on the same team at the same time, which IMO is a little less than ideal. And it’s stabdard scoring, further reducing Cohen’s value. Chubb & Blue don’t really give you any depth whatever. I think Chubb will gain value as the season goes on, but don’t know if he’ll be startable.

Outside of Bell/Howard you’re in deep trouble at RB, so you’re gonna have to be an eagle eye on the WW and don’t hesitate to overspend on a pickup in case of injury (sacrificing WW priority or FA $) like a Latavius Murray last year. I’d suggest being proactive & adding some of the handcuff RBs who haven’t been taken as a lottery ticket.

I like T.Y. Hilton. I do not like T.Y. as a WR1 until I see Luck throw beyond 15 yards. He just said he doesn’t yet have zip on his fastball which is terrinle news for Hilton. But with Cooper’s upside, you have 2 guys who are ”WR1B” options - 3rd/4th tier? But they both have a chance to exceed that so you need to get a little lucky here. Like at RB, depth is a concern with your WRs. Garcon is probably a legit WR3. I don’t love anyone behind him for consistency. Ridley has looked lost in the preseason with drops & poor route running, so I don’t see him taking targets from Sanu, the TE or Freeman anytime soon.    fuller & Moore are decent enough  BYE replacements, but you’re thin here.

TE - Reed is an elite talent in a porcelain body. Plus the concussions add up - one big blow will end his season. True for every player, sure - but tempting fate taking a dude who’s been hurt this much in this short a time-frame.

Chargers D is solid enough, well above average really.

your kicker has a foot at the end of his leg. Well done.

All told, feels a little rough. I assume Howard was your 2nd-3rd pick. Probably should have gone WR there & stack up on 2-3 of the upside backs later (Barber/hyde/etc)

Thanks for the feedback, really appreciate it!

I do agree, my RB situation is pretty bad. I had a strong feeling about drafting a WR in the 3rd round instead of Howard but didn't go for it - and now makes me realize to go with my gut sometimes! However, I may have someone lined up to pick off a WR from me for a RB. I'm definitely taking this advice for my upcoming drafts if I'm around the same pick.

Reed is probably my most risky pick since I know his history of concussions/injuries with the man; but then again, he was the next best available TE that can be great when healthy.

I like the kicker joke, got a good chuckle out of it - thanks for that.

As for the person who wants to trade for one of my WR's, here's what his team looks like:

QB - Wilson, Mariota

RB - Mixon, A Collins, Lynch, Ingram, AP, Jordan Wilkins

WR - AB, Cobb, Doctson, Stills, A Miller

TE - Gronk / D/ST - Vikings / K - Definitely a kicker with a foot at the end of his leg

Have any advice if I should go on to make some sort of trade with this guy? He keeps offering up Ingram (though he is suspended 4-games).

Funny - before I read that last sentence, I was gong to say “target Ingram & get the suspension discount” - but t all depends on what you’re giving up.

I feel like I'm currently set among Hilton/Cooper/Fuller but I know he'll be asking around for Fuller at most (unless he decides to do a multiple player deal but I highly doubt that). I'm pretty flexible on giving up players, but don't know what would be considered "too much" with that suspension sitting on Ingram.
