My perspective of Ray Lewis so far is that he's made it clear that he expects to be paid. Although he's still a dominant player, his age now has to be a concern. He's thrown out hints that he'd like to play for this team or for that team etc... He currently makes about 9.5 mil. (Highest paid LB in the NFL)
Terrell Suggs has made it clear that he will give the team a hometown discount. He is young, and has a ton of upside. He's made it clear that he'd like to keep the LB core together. He currently makes about 8.5 mil. (Second Highest paid LB in the NFL)
Bart Scott really hasn't said much. He sits there quietly and lets the rest play out in front of him. He's older than Suggs and not as good as Suggs or Lewis. He's probably peaked, but teams are definitely very interested.
Both Suggs and Lewis would require the 20% rule if tagged and Lewis would make $11.3 mil and Suggs would make $10.2 mil. Scott would make $8.3 mil if tagged.
The owner has already stated that he's willing to pay Lewis enough to keep him in Baltimore.
I see at least 10 scenarios, including the scenario that not 1 LB gets tagged and a bunch where Lewis gets tagged and traded.
My question is which LB is playing it right and why?
