Ray Rice Arrested In Atlantic City After Physical Altercation (1 Viewer)

Rice isn't going to suffer because he didn't do what the NFL told him to do. Even if the NFL had never said a word to Ray Rice he'd be on the hook here. Because whether the NFL says so or not, you aren't allowed to knock women out by punching them.

Feminists, race, the NFL have nothing to do with it.
Daryl Washington, Dez Bryant?

Goodell doesn't care about anything but appearing to keep a high standard. They flip out on guys for pot but they haven't done much about voilence, HGH, man slaughter, rape, etc.

The problem here is there's video. If the mainstream media picks this up it'll turn into a circus, he'll get suspended and there's a good chance he's cut.
Washington is scheduled to goto trail in april

On May 3, 2013, Washington was arrested[7] in Phoenix, Arizona on two counts of aggravated assault (and one count of criminal trespass in the first-degree) from an incident on May 1, 2013 involving his 27-year-old ex-girlfriend with whom he shares a daughter.[8][9] The altercation concerns a custody dispute over the 5-month-old child. Phoenix Police accuse him of pushing her with two hands, causing her to fall and break her right collarbone. Assuming no pretrial settlement can be reached, Washington's 8-person jury trial is set to begin April 30, 2014.[

And as for Rice, theres little he can dispute. There was an alterication between them and he KO'd a defenseless woman, it was a very public place with lots of witnesses and video. This is open and shut for the Atlantic City Police Department. Now will Rice do all he can to push this off or will he accept his punishment.

Not really. I think he's an idiot. Wrapping all black women in nice big package and over generalizing. Also, there is NEVER a right time to hit a women if you are a man. Drop her butt like a hot potato if you don't want to be with her. Now that is the correct option.
You gotta love the video comment though:

"The sad part was, that was his longest carry of the season..."

there's a good chance he's cut.
No, there's not. If you're a scrub who gets arrested, yeah maybe. Contributing players not so much.
Did you see him play last season?
Yeah, he was bad. But he was hurt, and the o-line was at least as big a part of the problem there as were any of the RBs, Rice included. Either way, if they cut him, $9 million worth of signing bonus would accelerate and hit the cap all at once in 2014. He's not getting cut. Go ahead and believe whatever you want to, however.

It was mostly just a jab at Rice, but I do think there's a decent chance he gets cut, depending on how this shakes out obviously. They can work around some of the cap issues by making him a post June 1 cut, where they'd actually gain cap space this year. I'm sure they'd try to wiggle out of his contract via some morality clause or something as well if it came down to it.

Do you ever post anything with any thought at all? It's just one big long troll. If this is a big story in the national media, with a video from the elevator of him knocking a woman unconscious he will get cut. One time, read something and do something besides think about how you can make a brain-dead, troll response.

Yeah, I'm the troll.

This story will be stone cold dead inside two weeks. It's just another athlete getting arrested. He'll miss a few games at some point due to a suspension, go to counseling, and then be welcomed back with open arms. It's ridiculous, but this would be MUCH more serious in the league's eyes if he took a few bong rips. Another wife beater among dozens is no big deal at all, sadly.

Hard to believe because somehow I thought Rice was a decent guy. Hard to say how this will play out. More than likely she doesn't file charges and it blows over, but if she does, it could affect his situation.
Lots of decent guys have made pretty bad mistakes.
I am in the belief that maybe smoking some ganja, or having a beer and driving, or missing his curfew would be mistakes. Knocking out a women in an elevator is a tad more than a "bad mistake" imho.

I'll admit I'm not entirely up to date on this story, I've pretty much only seen the vid and the "headlines" but I want to see a picture of her face, if he knocked her out there will probably be cuts or bruising. From the video it looks like she could have just been so drunk she passed out. Guessing there is no camera in the elevator?

Some reports say he hit her with an uppercut. If so, there may not be any bruises or cuts.

Rice probably won't be suspended, since this is his first offense. The personal conduct policy of the CBA has protocols to follow. Without him being suspended long term, the Ravens aren't going to cut him. The cost is going to be too great.

Just because video of the punch exists, it doesn't make the crime more severe. He will be found guilty, or plea, or charges could be dropped altogether.

The NFL isnt going to suspend a guy for knocking his gf clean unconscious?

Are you ######ed?

If the NFL doesnt come down hard, women's rights, female violence advocates etc will piss all over the NFL. The negative press would be surreal.

Plus, lets be honest... NFL has been catering hard to women in the past few years. They #### this up, and itll hit em hard finacially. Ray rice aint #### to the NFL

Long ### suspension, im guessing. LONG

Funny that there isn't a single mention of this on the NFL.com home page.

That's a bad sign for rice. Not a good one. NFL isnt wanting to glorify this one. At all

NFL PR dept in beast mode
Yea, sorry if the meaning of my comment wasn't clear. This is obviously a real story. I just thought it was funny that the NFL is trying to brush it under the rug. It's the top headline on the NFL tab on ESPN, yet you won't find it anywhere on NFL.com's home page. Hmmm....

Living in a time where violence against women is a very, very hot topic.

NFL is never shy to post about arrests, suspensions etc on their homepage... and ya, things are still unclear, but it's not as if they dont know 75% of what happened.

The NFL is sweeping it under the rug, but they definitely arent going to plaster this story on their homepage. Rice is going to get a beatdown on this one

My :2cents: is at least 4 games on the bench from the league offices.

BAL has to be POd as well as the league w/ the current MIA dumpster fire mess. I am not in any way saying this is the same situation at all, but like NE releasing Hernandez after the shooting/cover up evidence came out, BAL could make the move to distance themselves with Rice. His contract is a huge financial mess to the team in 15, so this will be interesting to see how the franchise navigates through this.

The video being released could seal his NFL career.... Video of this is 100 billion times worse than a simple arrest and story about this.

The media will JUMP on this once video is out.

Ray Rice may want to move out of the country if a video gets released showing him giving Sha-nay-nay a Mike Tyson uppercut.

Assuming the video of him punching her and knocking her out exists:

I imagine Ray Rice's lawyers don't want a trial (or any other venue) where the video is shown.

I imagine the NFL doesn't want the video shown.

The video's going to come out long before any trial happens, IMO. Even if it didn't, the mere fact that it exists means Rice won't be going to trial. What would be the point? Going to get found not guilty when there's video evidence of you doing it?

Exactly. ZERO chance this goes to a trial. If there is video evidence of him hitting her, what exactly is he going to say in court? Even if she spit on him or hit him first, I'd find it hard to believe a jury wouldn't convict him since there is video of him knocking her out cold and then dragging her through the hotel.

I don't disagree that a trial is unlikely, but the law is a funny thing sometimes. A video doesn't always tell the whole story in court even if the scenario is very obvious to you and me. The Rodney King cops were all acquitted despite the video... I'm not saying that that was good or bad or right or wrong or ANYTHING like that. Just saying slam dunk videos don't always turn out to be the slam dunks they seemed to be.

There are multiple parts and each of them will play into the length of suspension and if Rice is cut.

1 - Not having seen the video from inside the elevator, we don't know what transpired to lead to Rice punching her. She was arrested as well. If she was punching him repeatedly, he would have nowhere to go in an elevator.

2 - We don't know what her BAC level was at this time. Could it have taken less physical contact to knock her out due to her drinking?

3 - This is the mother of his child and his fiance. I'm not sure about NJ law, but they may both drop the charges. After all, they are both losing $$ in this situation.

4 - While the NFL can suspend for 1st offenders of the Conduct Policy, Rice hasn't been in trouble with the league before. The three points above, would have a bearing on a suspension. Rice will look for the NFL to help him with a problem. Get him counseling and come out the other side a better person. It will all be for show, but it will keep Rice from getting a suspension.

I get the feeling that some are tacking on penalty because he knocked her out, or because a video exists. I think this will be another part of RIce's argument. He is a first time offender of domestic abuse. The NFL has years of history dealing with this.

I see a fine coming and maybe a 1 game suspension. This will be the actual punishment. Goodell may come out with a more severe punishment to satisfy the media. But Rice will appeal the suspension and get it reduced.

Pretty much the entire post is absurd.

You are WAY underestimating the media feeding frenzy that will take place once this video is made public. There will be enormous public pressure on the league to come down very hard on Rice and Goodell's track record is to "Protect The Shield" at all costs. I'm guessing this will be an unprecedented suspension for domestic violence in order to make a statement.

Lot of people over-reacting like crazy in here, saying that his career is over and stuff. Rice is a huge POS wife beater, but there are tons of equal or worse criminals in the league. This will blow over and be forgotten by the general public long before camps open. Ben Roethlisberger raped multiple women and got four games off. Brandon Marshall is a serial wife beater, among other various arrests.

Goodell's track record is to "Protect The Shield" at all costs.
No, it's not. He talks tough, but unless the mandatory penalties associated with substance abuse are involved, the worst offenders only get a slap on the wrist. His bosses, the owners, realize that winning on the field generates way more money than is lost through any bad press. Go ahead and look up how many games guys with 10+ arrests have actually been suspended over the course of their careers, then try to tell me that Goodell cares about "protecting the shield."
