Ray Rice in round 3 or Miles Austin in round 12 (1 Viewer)

Which would you prefer and how close is it?

edit - I put this in the wrong forum but can't figure out how to delete and repost correctly...

So if this were a trade, it would be Miles Austin and a 3rd for Ray Rice and a 12th. Pretty close, if there are more than 2 or 3 keepers per team, I think I'd take Rice and the 12th, with the more guys kept diluting the value of the 3rd round pick.

It sounds like your in some keeper type rotation and can select Rice in the 3rd for your league or Austin in 12th... I think Rice in the 3rd is more valuable than Austin in the 12th because of the format... Rice wouldn't last 4 picks in a normal format and his value is on the up not the down. Even in a PPR you can't pass on getting a starting back like Rice in the 3rd...

Just how I read it and I agree with the conclusion.

Do you know who the players that are going to be throw back are? I'd almost lean on keeping Ray Rice because I think WR is easier to cover up for than deficency at RB.

You guys would all rather spend a 3rd round pick on a top 4 RB rather than a 12th round pick on a top 8 WR? I came into this thread thinking that overwhelmingly it woudl be Austin for the 12th. The 12th is a throwaway pick. You can still get a good player in the 3rd.

Austin (12)/Grant (3)

or

Rice (3)/Legadu Naenae (12)

Maybe I am a biased Austin owner, but I think Austin in the 12th by a wide margin. You still have all of your top picks to get your RB1. I get that many of the good ones will be retained, but Austin in the 12th is still IMO a far better value.

I agree with Chuck and would go with Austin. Rice is >> Austin, but a 3rd round pick is >>>> 12th round pick (at least in my opinion).

I think I'd need to know a little more.

Where do you draft in the draft?

What other players do you expect to be left?

How many keepers?

If I was drafting early (like top 3) and there were several other impact RB's left, I'd be tempted to take Austin.

If this is a 3 keeper league, meaning that most of the top talent will be gone, I'd have to keep Rice.

With either option, you could still end up with both players back on your roster, but with keeping Austin, you keep that 3rd round pick, which is worth more if there are less keepers, more keepers there are, the less the picks are worth.

Thanks for the replies all. It's max 4 keepers each costing a pick 2 rounds earlier than the player was taken last year, max 2 per position, no keepers from round 1 or 2 so a lot of top talent is still in the draft pool, league in year 3. I have 3 RBs and need to unload one. Rice in 3 (round I would give up, not round drafted last year), Charles in 8, and C Johnson in 5. I'm trying to trade one for a top receiver or qb. My only other possible keeper is VJax in 6 which I'm not excited about. The Austin owner doesn't have a rb1 keeper bu does have 2 other WRs that could be kept for value. I've also been trying to trade Charles to move my r1 pick 1.12 up to top 4 to snag A Johnson. Other possible targets are Desean Jackson in 11, Vernon Davis in 10, Nicks in 8, Rodgers in 6, Smith(NYG) in 5, Crabtree in 5. Didn't want to give detail in case league mates are reading the thread, but whatever. Other possibility is to try and trade one for a draft pick but because I'm not sure who people are going to keep or what trades are going to go down it's hard to gauge pick value after first couple rounds.

C-Johnson RB or WR? I'm guessing WR at that pick... but considering last years ADP and the length of time in the league, it could very easily be RB as well...

The RB. First drafted in round 8. Rookies are kept 1 round earlier than taken the previous year, so I'm down to round 5 this year.

Gimme: Rice, CJ, AJ with picks left in rounds 2, 4, 6.... If you can squeeze Austin into that lineup as well, you're destine for late round play-offs...
