Me too. I want to hear from Rice again and see what he says. Believe it or not, he deserves that.

HOWEVER, I disagree with your fundamental point. Seeing the video matters. Before today my gut said he hit her and he deserved to be in the criminal justice system as a result, but I held a doubt about what sort of two way fight occurred. This video showed a 95/5, not a 50/50 fight. This makes a massive difference about how I viewed this incident. Seeing it with my own eyes is a significant development for me.

Part of it was the utter disregard of Rice after dropping her. No instant remorse , instead he looked annoyed that he had to drag her out like she was a bag of trash.Video has a profound effect

Because just like most cases that aren't video taped there is a shadow of doubt.

Maybe he was defending himself. Maybe she is a krav maga master and he was genuinely defending himself. Maybe he only pushed her and in her drunken state and 4 inch heals, she lost her balance and fell and hit her head. And then maybe he panicked and was sickened at the sight of her motionless body he actually showed some concern.......

But that is not the case. All the maybes are out the window and the world is now reacting.

Exact same thing would have happened if video surfaced with Vick, or rottenburger, or whoever. Public outrage and seeking blood. It's human nature.

We saw the TMZ video of what happened outside—when he was dragging her out unconscious—but inside, I'm told from those who have seen the video, it wasn't pretty. Let's assume for the sake of argument, rather than enter into the pretrial diversionary program that [Rice] entered into, we hypothetically move forward on the case. And hypothetically we litigate 100 motions and the video comes out and the video shows—hypothetically speaking now, hypothetically speaking—shows that Ray wasn't the first person that hit, and Ray was getting repeatedly hit but just Ray hit harder, fired one back and hit harder. Hypothetically speaking, and he gets found not guilty. Is that result somehow better? Is it better for the public? Is it better for the Ravens? Is it better for Ray? Is it better for Janay?

What else could the league have been thinking? All but absolving Rice with a mere two-game suspension for knocking his unarmed fiancée unconscious and dragging her out of elevator necessarily requires Goodell and the NFL to subscribe to a specific kind of philosophy in which Rice's actions are absolvable—one in which he is a nearly passive agent, reacting to events in an understandable if unfortunate way.

Well, I respect that fact that you might not know the zillions of ways fights happen, or start. Not being sarcastic. I used to work with an industry that had tons of cameras focused on tons of drunk people. Women (and men) get knocked out a bunch of times without being hit. There's also the defensive punch, which is a lot more understandable (someone's beating you with an object like a shoe, handbag, etc and you strike back), there's shoves all the time that end up with people falling and getting knocked out when they hit the wall/floor/railing/etc.

I can only speak for myself, but without evidence, I was hoping it wasn't as bad as it turned out to be.

Not to mention that I've seen many times when a spouse (male or female) came to the security guys with a story of "He/She BEAT ME!!" and then are shown to be lying when the camera footage is brought up. Or many times it's just an exaggeration.

As someone who's tried to help a child being abused, as well as a spouse, i can firmly tell you that you are mistaken. Are there issues with a spouse/child that is being abused yet stays with the abuser because of fear of more abuse or just fear of being alone? Absolutely.

How so? From reports this summer he flat knocked her out and dragged her out of an elevator. From that video she came after him and he hit back, which was weak on his part, but the video actually opened up the possibility he did not knock her out but the fall on the railing did and I also can't tell if he slapped or punched her.

Again, what he did was terrible, but I already saw him drag her out of the elevator with little regard months ago and I thought it was a given he KO punched her, which due to that video I'm not sure anymore if it was the hit or fall. So bad? 100% yes. I just don't see it as being worse.

how many times have you seen a man #### back and punch a woman knocking her out?

i have not seen it. To me seeing it with my own eyes is shocking. The same as when i hear about the holocaust it sounds horrible, but when i see the pictures it is far worse. Or when I hear about a death in an accident I understand what happened, but seeing a bloody body on the street really brings it home. Many people are visual in nature, and seeing things makes them more real. Perhaps you are not that way.

There's also the defensive punch, which is a lot more understandable (someone's beating you with an object like a shoe, handbag, etc and you strike back), there's shoves all the time that end up with people falling and getting knocked out when they hit the wall/floor/railing/etc.

I can only speak for myself, but without evidence, I was hoping it wasn't as bad as it turned out to be.

Not too mention that I've seen many times when a spouse (male or female) came to the security guys with a story of "He/She BEAT ME!!" and then are shown to be lying when the camera footage is brought up. Or many times it's just an exaggeration.

But didn't he admit to hitting her? That's what he publically apologized for. All this has done is emotionally charge people.

Yeah, I think he did, but I'm not sure he ever said he struck her. He just kept saying something along the lines of "domestic violence is bad" and he was sorry for what he'd done.

I thought he hit her, but it was unclear if she was beating the crap out of him and he shoved her away forcefully, or if she was drunk/barely able to walk and she more fell on her own, or if he just popped her (like the vid showed).

there's women whose abusers make nothing compared to Rice who still stay because the money is one of many things that makes them feel powerless to stop the abuse. It's a very real part of the cycle and one of the things that makes it hard to stop. Along with the victim being blamed and accepting blame. The team and league have played into all of this. It is one thing for people on this board to not understand how things work with domestic violence victims, most of us have never experienced it. But the league and team should reach out to people in an effort to understand it.

I don't get why people are all up in arms right now. Everyone knew what happened in that elevator. I guess people have to see to believe. I don't see how the NFL could punish him further as it would be double jeopardy. I also don't see the Ravens cutting him as everyone already knew what happened.

I'm not up in arms any more than I was before, or at all really to be honest.

But there were several ways that encounter could have played out in my mind, and the way it actually went down was NOT the best one.

Video does generate emotion though, that's for sure. But as many have said, crimes just as bad and worse have been committed by NFL players that weren't released etc. I don't think anything new will happen to Rice. I think it will blow over just like it did the first time. Mob mentality is strange though, and it may not.

It will be interesting to see if Ravens fans cheer him though when he comes back next time.

Well, lets be honest here - she probably has a financial incentive for Rice to remain a highly paid employee in the NFL. I would not read anything into her reconciliation with Rice as being done out of pure love - otherwise, why not insist that he quit, and seek anger management counseling prior to getting married.

Call me a skeptic, and I am not saying she got what she deserved when she was punched, but I think she is a far more willing participant in how things have gone down since, and it would not shock me to learn she has reached a financial settlement with Rice that requires her reconciliation.

Not sure what you are saying - we don't really know that she is in an abusive relationship. We know that Rice knocked her out, and that is one hit too many, but if that was a one-off occurrence I would not call it an abusive relationship. The fact that it was done so cavalierly suggests it might not have been a 1-off occurrence, but I don't know any better right now.

As for her - I am sure she could walk away from this relationship with a fair degree of financial security of her own - she does not need him. On the contrary he needed her to be married - so she could not testify. I think they reached an agreement where she agrees to get married, and go on the reconciliation circuit in exchange fro something tangible (not just the notion of being married to an NFL player).

Again, not saying she deserved to be hit, or that she was a willful participant in that aspect - but I do not think she is a "typical" abused spouse who has nowhere (or thinks they have nowhere) to turn. I think she is a willing participant in the relationship at this point - either for love, or for money.

How so? From reports this summer he flat knocked her out and dragged her out of an elevator. From that video she came after him and he hit back, which was weak on his part, but the video actually opened up the possibility he did not knock her out but the fall on the railing did and I also can't tell if he slapped or punched her.

Again, what he did was terrible, but I already saw him drag her out of the elevator with little regard months ago and I thought it was a given he KO punched her, which due to that video I'm not sure anymore if it was the hit or fall. So bad? 100% yes. I just don't see it as being worse.

i have not seen it. To me seeing it with my own eyes is shocking. The same as when i hear about the holocaust it sounds horrible, but when i see the pictures it is far worse. Or when I hear about a death in an accident I understand what happened, but seeing a bloody body on the street really brings it home. Many people are visual in nature, and seeing things makes them more real. Perhaps you are not that way.

Who cares if you see it or not. We already know it happened. Seeing it does not make it worse, I don't even understand this concept.
