Many people are visual in nature, and seeing things makes them more real. Perhaps you are not that way.

I see what you're getting at, and maybe you were able to visualize what happened from the earlier partial video and the reports, but most people weren't.

I tend to agree with others, though, that seeing something happen always will elicit more response than seeing the aftermath of something that already has happened.

Like seeing someone get shot as opposed to seeing them 20 minutes later when they are covered with the blanket. I would imagine 99.99% of people would react stronger to the seeing the actual crime.

I think she still could walk away - unlike many women who do not have the financial wherewithal to walk away from an abusive relationship. it's not as simple as money

it is a relationship, she is vested in it, and she was if only once a victim. She has all the same issues any woman trying to leave does, just because she may be able to cash in more, MAY be able to, does not change that., And remember, she'd have to feel like she had the power to get that money and to leave, typically one of the side effects of abuse is not empowering the victim but making them feel trapped. Having this play out on the national media could easily intensify that feeling.

Maybe you are right that she scored a big money deal and is emotionally fine, I'd say the evidence of past victims of abuse make it less than probable.

It was being portrayed that he was being assaulted by her and he hit her somewhat out of self-defense and just used a little too much force. That's not what I see in that video

Why are you so upset that people are seeing it?

Domestic violence is domestic violence, whether he hit her once or ten times, it's too many, and I think most people assumed he hit her.

They may have assumed things. They did not know all the details in the video. Now they do and they are more informed, and they don't need so many assumptions. I still do not understand why you are upset at people learning what the video showed.

Haven't read the whole thread, but this whole thing disturbs me.

Domestic violence/assault is a horrible thing, and the NFL is right to take a stand on it. They were right to suspend Rice, and I absolutely understand the argument that his suspension was too short.

That said, the current mob mentality seems to be that the Ravens should release him and he should not be allowed back into the NFL. It is this argument/thought that I find disturbing. There is no equivalent job for an NFL RB (The CFL at 1/10th the pay is NOT equivalent!) Taking away his career and literally millions of dollars is not a just punishment.

I realize that many people in normal jobs might lose their jobs over something like this (but hardly the majority), but the overwhelming majority of those would be able to find similar jobs at similar wages in their chosen career. The exceptions would be in special places where we rightfully expect a higher level of accountability (police officer).

Ray Rice was way wrong, but the mob is just as wrong now.

Out of curiosity, are Rice owners cutting him? Or is anyone benching him all season but not dropping him? let's assume he plays in games.

This is a tough call. I will be honest, I am outraged at what he did. I am trying my best to trade him, for nearly anything as I do not want him on my team. However, if no further punishment is doled out I will consider playing him if he is the starter. I mean honestly, after the Ray Lewis stuff, did people run to drop him in IDP leagues, or the Ravens D in standard leagues? Shoot, how long did people carry Hernandez on rosters (or maybe even still do)?
