RB Alvin Kamara, NO (2 Viewers)

Dennis Allen said they've talked about finding more ways to use Alvin Kamara and "allow him to be the playmaker he's been for (them) in the past."

Allen also said a month ago that they were going to find more ways to use Taysom.

I'm strongly considering Latavius or Dobbins in place of Kamara. FBG's projections still have Kamara in the top 10, just like every other week this year, so that's no help. They're probably smart enough to not have Kamara on their team in the first place though.

So Dennis Allen finally figured out Kamara is good and is going to use him more to run into the stone wall of the 49'ers? Check out the small brain on Dennis.

I have AK41 and ETN

Would love to bench both

Unfortunately one of them has to start

I have both as well. I'm sitting ETN against the Cowboys. Not a lot of faith in Kamara but at least he has a decent matchup. And he's due for one of his 3 TD games, right?

Right?

right?

right?

yeah I'm probably rolling out AK with Bam Knight, sitting ETN. But my team is thin at RBs; bc of injuries my only other options are lotto tix (James Cook, Jaylen Warren.)

Alvin Kamara rushed 21 times for 91 yards in the Saints' Week 15 win over the Falcons, adding two receptions for 13 additional yards.

Both the carries and rushing yards were Kamara's most since Week 5, though he now has only four catches for 24 yards over his past two games. This was only the second time all season Kamara reached 20 carries. He was still lacking for explosive plays, with his long gain going for 13. Kamara has not had a rush over 20 yards since Week 6. Lacking a viable backup — David Johnson lost a red zone fumble this afternoon — Kamara's carry counts figure to remain bigger down the stretch. He will be a volume-based RB2 for Week 16 against the Browns.

When asked why he's losing out on third down snaps this season, Alvin Kamara said, “I don’t know. You got to ask someone else."

For much of the 2022 season, Kamara -- among the league's best pass-catching backs -- has been used as an early-down banger and replaced on third downs. He told reporters after the Saints' Week 16 win against the Browns that he doesn't think his usage is related to pass protection struggles. Through 15 games, Kamara has been on the field for 62 percent of the team's third downs, down from his 81 percent rate in 2021. Saints head coach Dennis Allen said he didn't know why Kamara wasn't being used on third downs. “That’s just how some of the game plans have played out,” Allen said. “He’s been our primary (runner) for a majority of the season. ... It’s still an area we want to try to utilize him and try to put him in spots to be a factor in the passing game.” Gone are the seasons when Kamara would regularly rack up 80 to 90 receptions, often lining up as a receiver. His altered role in the New Orleans offense means Kamara offers far less PPR upside, as fantasy managers know by now.

There is no trial date set for this matter. The March date is a preliminary hearing. There is no guarantee that this will be resolved before the NFL season starts, or even after season concludes. Clark County has a back log of criminal cases. Preliminary hearing in March, gets sent to District Court, a continuance or two and bam, we're into next 2024. Of course a plea could be entered anytime and that would probably trigger a 6 game suspension.

Alvin Kamara pleaded "not guilty" during his arraignment on charges of conspiracy to commit battery and battery resulting in substantial bodily harm.

The trial is expected to start on July 31. That is during training camp, which is not ideal for Kamara's hopes of playing this season. Kamara's status will remain up in the air until we get a settlement and/or the legal (and extralegal NFL) process plays out. His fantasy value will be hard to predict until we get a clearer idea of how this will impact his status. This feels like it will be one of the bigger conundrums to wrap our heads around this offseason.

Alvin Kamara is not attending Saints voluntary OTAs.

Saints coach Dennis Allen "didn't seem concerned" about the missing players and said he's communicated with them. Kamara's legal situation has complicated his path to the field this year, and it's possible the Saints are just fine with him missing OTAs as they try to get a grasp on who else on this depth chart they believe in. Rookie back Kendre Miller (MCL) remained sidelined, but was present at OTAs.

When would the NFL rule on Kamara? Are there still legal proceedings that need to take place? Seems like in a month, it might be too late for the NFL to inject any suspension for the 2023, no? I mean, sure, they can do it at any time, they can do whatever they want, but typically, dont suspensions for legal stuff happen before the season?

typically with issues like this NFL waits until the courts have gone through their process.

Kamara’s court date is July 31st.
Pelissero: Alvin Kamara's trial date for battery charges set for July 31, 2023.
I expect the NFL to issue a suspension after that date, but before the season.

In Kamara’s case, he’s kind of fortunate that the video never surfaced. Might mean a shorter suspension.

You probably forgot but that video surfaced, was not the clearest looking video but it was a rough look. The difference with some of the other videos is he's not hitting a female and likely due to that there has really been next to zero public outrage even though they put a pretty good beating on the guy.

You are right on everything else, his trail date is coming and he won't be suspended until it's adjudicated. If the trial has any delay's getting that process completed he won't be suspended until it is and I'd throw in that based on his contract, for purely financial reasons he would benefit by having his suspension handed down for this season, not delaying it.

Guessing on suspension length is close to just throwing stuff up against a wall, but I've been working on my best guess premise that he's out week 1-6.

Oh snap I totally missed that a video surfaced. I agree it’s not as damning as we’re used to seeing.

There was some outrage at the time, as it was a group beat-down and considered kinda gutless, but yeah - that’s faded substantially over time.

I expect a 4-6, maybe appeal to 3-5

My take---the video destroys Kamara's self defense argument. He will cut a deal to avoid jail time and get sentenced to Probation and six weeks PSW coaching a High School football team. He can call Sean for advice. Kendre will have six games to prove he is better than Jamal. When Alvin comes back, Jamal will be relegated to Goal Line work wiping out any value for Hill.

Ugh... I always hate when I find myself agreeing with Florio lol. But yeah, I tend to shy away from overly simplistic race based arguments; but it's hard not to think that if they were stomping on a 90lb white girl Kamara would be cut, on indefinite suspension and the case would have been fast tracked and underway already. Look what happened to Hunt for something (IMO) not even close to as extreme. Such is the power of public perception

I dont know, but I dont think its all that serious. NFL will suspend him, they seem to like 6 games, and get it down to 4. I couldnt understand a word from the uber video. BUt I am sure the law dawgs will in court. Kamara and his crew will have plenty of time to be on the same page with their story.
Really, I thought this would have been settled by now, suspension known, and moved on. Mid July and nothing, it will soon be too late for NFL to put down a suspension for 2023.

Criminal assault penalties seem to be pretty lenient in most jurisdictions especially if the assailant doesn't have any priors. I'm not sure of the venue here or if Kamara has a prior record but if he doesn't then chances are any sentence will be probation at most should he be found guilty or pleas out.

So Saints will already be in camp when the trial starts. Shouldnt be a long trial. Will NFL suspend a month before the season? I honestly dont know.

open and shut case for simple assault carrying $200 fine and 90 days minimum which the judge can waive in favor of up to 2 years probation. expect nfl suspension time to greatly exceed jail time, 6-8 weeks negotiated down to 4-5 maybe. when you watch the video, the overwhelming first reaction is "what a moron".
