RB Antonio Gibson, NE (3 Viewers)

Ya I wouldn't drop Robinson yet, but more wondering about Gibson's value. Drafting tonight in the league I commission and want him of course, just trying to see where to slot him into rankings.
There's no real precedent for this. My automatic reaction when you hear he was shot was he's done for the year, but maybe once the bullets are removed (assuming no internal damage) - it's basically just a wound healing.
That's on the table for sure. At first pass, it sounds bad, but 'flesh wounds' happen.

Drafted Gibson as my flex rotation with David Montgomery. League has an IR so instead of a D, I drafted Robinson with my last pick to IR him and grab my streaming D for this week (Cleveland puke)

Antonio Gibson rushed 14 times for 58 yards in the Commanders' Week 1 win over the Jaguars, adding seven receptions for 72 additional yards.

Gibson was the unquestioned lead back in this one, despite Curtis Samuel drawing the first carry of the 2022 season. The former wide receiver turned running back got back to his receiving roots on Washington's first drive, when he hauled in a 26-yard pass from Carson Wentz in one-on-one coverage, setting up Washington's first touchdown of the day. His longest run of the day came on a 13-yard gain in the second quarter, but Gibson was putting up chunk yardage all day long -- averaging a solid 6.2 yards per touch. With rookie running back sidelined for at least three more games, Gibson should continue to serve as Washington's lead back. He runs the risk of being benched if he develops a case of the fumbles, but Sunday's game showed all the reasons the fantasy community refused to quit Gibson this offseason. He looks like a high-end RB2 next weekend at Detroit.

Who would have ever thought that Antonio Gibson, a former college WR, could be utilized as a downfield weapon? Crazy.

Dave Kluge @DaveKluge

Antonio Gibson's @PFF receiving grade (85.6) ranked best among all running backs in Week 1.
always so baffling how little he has/had been used in the passing game.

Antonio Gibson had 12 rushes for 38 yards and a touchdown in the Commanders' Week 3 loss to the Eagles, adding one catch for two yards.

Gibson (kind of) saved his fantasy day with a fourth quarter one-yard touchdown plunge with the game out of reach. It was a disappointing outcome against a Philly defense that had given up the league's highest EPA per rush coming into Week 3. As usual, Gibson was not involved in the Commanders' passing offense while J.D. McKissic caught six of his nine targets for 32 yards. Gibson's time as Washington's primary ball carrier could be coming to an end with the return of Brian Robinson (lower body) as soon as Week 5. Gibson should get one more game in his current role next week against the Cowboys. He should be treated as a no-ceiling RB3.

Antonio Gibson played on just 41% of snaps against the Cowboys.

After starting the season with a 65% snap share against the Jaguars, Gibson has seen his role fall off precipitously. He has now posted back-to-back weeks with a 45% snap share or lower. Gibson's declining usage is likely somewhat game-script related. The Commanders have been outscored 49-18 over the last two weeks. However, Gibson's role is still concerningly small. He saw a lower snap share than Tyler Allgeier in Week 4 and was barely above Tony Pollard (39%). It's a concerning development, considering that Brian Robinson could be back in the lineup soon.

Antonio Gibson rushed 10 times for 59 yards, adding three receptions for 18 yards and a touchdown on four targets in the Commanders' Week 7 win over the Packers.

Gibson made a very nice grab in the back of the end zone for his TD reception, looking like the former wide receiver that he is. However, he took a backseat to Brian Robinson who led the backfield with 20 attempts and also saw two targets. Gibson will be a TD-dependent dart throw against the Colts in Week 8.

Gibson is better than Robinson, not sure why they do not like him. Robinson does not look like anything special to be honest

Classic case of the Tony pollard special. Comes in change of pace and destroys tired defenses after defenses exert tons of effort to bring down the bull of the starting rb.

Talent means nothing- Gibson is just fortunate

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reports teams are calling the Commanders about acquiring RB Antonio Gibson.

The Commanders, per Schultz, would prefer to hang on to the third-year back, who in Week 7 against the Packers had 59 yards and a touchdown on 10 rushes, leading the Washington backfield in pass routes and targets. "My sense however, is that Washington prefers to keep Gibson, who’s formed a formidable 1-2 punch with rookie Brian Robinson Jr.," Schultz said. Robinson should be a weekly RB2 option if Gibson were to be traded before the league's November 1 deadline, and McKissic would presumably get back some of his PPR appeal.

Commanders head coach Ron Rivera said the team would not trade Antonio Gibson before the NFL's November 1 trade deadline.

Rivera was upset about reports that Washington was looking to deal Gibson in the next couple days. He said the team's "running back room is in a very good place right now," with the inefficient Brian Robinson leading the way and Gibson serving as an explosive change-of-pace back. Gibson in Week 7 saw ten carries to Robinson's 20 rushes. Both Commanders backs are in the Rb2 conversation this week against the Colts, though Robinson is more touchdown-dependent than Gibson, who is involved in the passing game.

Big Ron shut that down hard.

The idea teams won't take calls on just about any player has and will forever blow my mind. Not saying to try and trade your roster but how could you not at least listen to what someone wants to offer you?

Thx for nothing Ron

McKissick is out this week.

Anytime you are talking about neck and seeing a specialist I tend to think the odds are pretty decent he could be out for ROS.

This is extremely signficant for Gibson.
...particularly if they are playing from behind, which is likely...there could be lots of garbage points with Commanders pressing to catch up but not simply throwing bombs...

Antonio Gibson had 11 rushes for 36 yards in the Commanders' Week 9 loss against the Vikings, adding two receptions for 11 yards.

Gibson's longest reception of 11 yards came on the game's final play, in which he tried and failed to get out of bounds for Washington to run a final desperation play while down by a field goal. It was a letdown of an outing for Gibson with J.D. McKissic (neck) sidelined. Brian Robinson saw two targets while functioning as the team's primary early-down banger. A week after he targeted running backs 13 times, Taylor Heinicke threw to Washington backs on just five of his 28 attempts against Minnesota. Gibson last week caught all seven of his targets and scored a receiving touchdown, suggesting he would be the go-to pass-catching RB with McKissic sidelined. Perhaps he will be in a more pass-heavy game script, which we could see in Week 10 when the Commanders take on the all-powerful Eagles. Gibson should function as a low-end RB2 for as long as McKissic is out.

Antonio Gibson rushed 14 times for 44 yards and a touchdown in the Commanders' Week 10 win over the Eagles, adding three catches for 14 yards.

Gibson went down with an apparent ankle injury shortly before halftime but returned later in the game. He finished the contest without any issues. Brian Robinson carried the ball 26 times and also found the end zone once. Even more frustrating was Gibson's usage as a pass-catcher. He ran 18 routes to Robinson's 10. Not dominating the snaps on passing downs will be a problem for Gibson if he is seeing less than half of the Commanders' carries on a weekly basis. Gibson will be a low-end RB3 in his Week 11 matchup with the Texans.

Antonio Gibson (foot) was limited in Wednesday's practice.

Gibson took a backseat to Brian Robinson last week. Versus Atlanta, the rookie out-touched him 21-12 and rushed for more than 100 yards. He also caught a touchdown pass. Gibson's foot issue may have resulted in him seeing less work, but the Commanders have made it painfully clear that they view him as little more than a backup running back. He should play through the foot issue in Week 13, but RB3 numbers are his ceiling at this point.

Antonio Gibson (foot) is listed as questionable for Week 13 against the Giants.

Gibson had the dreaded Thursday downgrade and did not practice after logging a limited session on Wednesday. He has a shot to suit up in an important divisional matchup against the Giants but could be limited if his foot injury lingers. Brian Robinson has operated as the Commanders' lead back of late and has a more stable fantasy floor than Gibson right now. The Giants have a middling rush defense.

That put me over the edge to make a move for Zonovan Knight flyer. Gibson being on a bye in week 14 solidified my move. I could always go back because no one is going to want a Q Gibson trending down a tad with a week 14 bye, right? I'm good moving on and giving Bam Bam a look.

That leaves us with the complicated decision of what to do with the backfield. Zonovan Knight (103 all-purpose yards) and Ty Johnson (78 all-purpose yards and one touchdown) split the workload after Carter’s injury in Week 12. The team will likely choose to activate James Robinson as well for depth.

Based on his efficiency and workload, Zonovan Knight should be rostered if he survived this week’s waiver wire run in your fantasy league. But fantasy managers should exercise some caution before instantly firing him up in their lineups.

Knight will likely get the first crack given his success against Chicago. However, there is a chance that Ty Johnson gets more run this week, especially if the Jets find themselves in a negative game script against the Vikings. The Jets could also go with a full three-headed backfield and use an active James Robinson on the ground as well.

Ultimately, the decision to start Zonovan Knight comes down to your roster at the running back position. If you have a running back on bye or navigating an injury, then Knight will have a solid matchup against a Vikings defense allowing over 18.0 fantasy points per game to running backs this season. At worst, Knight does have some FLEX appeal in lineups in Week 13.

He's an add because he has a path, another opportunity and we shall see... He sits on my bench for now.

Antonio Gibson (foot) practiced Wednesday.

Gibson should be ready to roll for Washington's important Sunday night matchup against divisional rival Giants. Two weeks ago against the Giants, Gibson went for 59 yards on 11 touches while Brian Robinson once again led the Commanders with 21 carries for 96 yards. Gibson will be a decent RB3 option in Week 15.

Antonio Gibson (foot) has been removed from the Commanders' Week 16 injury report.

Gibson is good to go for a tough matchup with the 49ers. He has taken a backseat to Brian Robinson over the past three weeks, and has neither enough floor nor upside to be counted on as a FLEX option for the fantasy semifinals.

Commanders coach Ron Rivera said that Antonio Gibson "has a sprain" and that they're "going to have to monitor that very closely this week."

Helpfully, Rivera did not specify the location of the sprain -- we'll probably have to wait for an injury report to know for sure. Gibson had just five carries last week with Jonathan Williams grabbing a small share of the duties. Brian Robinson looks like he's in line for a big snap share this week against a Browns run defense that has improved of late but has given up plenty of RB1 games.

The Commanders placed Antonio Gibson (knee, ankle) on injured reserve, ending his season.

It was an up-and-down season for Gibson, who opened the year as the team's starter with Brian Robinson sidelined. The third-year running back slowly lost ground to Robinson upon his return and averaged just 9.3 touches and 42.8 yards per game in his final four games of the season. Now heading into the final year of his rookie contract, it will be interesting to see how the Commanders plan to use Gibson in 2023. The former wide receiver converted to running back after being drafted in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft and has 124 receptions for 894 yards and five touchdowns for his career. If the Commanders don't re-sign J.D. McKissic this offseason, Gibson could have a role as a third-down back next season and serve as the immediate backup to Robinson. He's an interesting buy-low candidate in dynasty leagues and will have some late-round appeal in seasonal leagues if the Commanders don't sign/draft any serious competition.

Commanders HC Ron Rivera said he would like to get Antonio Gibson more touches in 2023.

Rivera is reportedly hoping to get Gibson more touches heading into the first season with Bieniemy at the offensive helm, noting he's intrigued by the way Gibson fits into "what Eric Bieniemy wants to do with the offense." A former wide receiver who converted to running back, Gibson has the kind of versatility that Bieniemy's running backs had in Kansas City. Gibson rushed for a career-low 149-546-3 last season but saw career highs in receptions (46) and receiving yards (353). Gibson is arguably the most versatile back on Washington's roster at this time and could be a value in the middle of PPR drafts. Brian Robinson still stands to threaten for early down touches and goal line work, but any added reps in the passing game can only be a positive for Gibson's fantasy outlook this season.

Let’s see what really happens. I wondered about this in the off-season. Robinson seems like a slightly better version of Leroy Hoard.

Yeah. Rivera had plenty of opportunity to get Gibson more touches last year and didn't.
