RB Carlos Hyde, JAC (3 Viewers)

Tomsula: Boldin & Hyde game-time decisions
2078.jpg

49ers coach Jim Tomsula said Friday that Anquan Boldin (hamstring) and Carlos Hyde (foot) will be game-time decisions for Week 8 at St. Louis.
so did the game get moved up to friday night? i'd hate to be a beat guy having to ask questions and get nonsensical responses to said questions from this idiot all week for 4 months... just reading through tomsula quotes hurts my brain

So who is the right pickup here...Bush, Hayne, or Davis? They're all free agents in my short bench, no PPR league and I'm riddled with injuries.

The almost indisputable immediate pick up is Bush.

He seems healthy, and the one thing he can still do is catch a few passes.

SF will most often be behind and trailing, considering the way they have played so far.

From what I have been reading, it will be mostly Bush, and the others will mix in for some other "breather" work.

I think its a hard situation to predict with those two though.

A "wait and see if anyone emerges" is probably about all we can do with the others at this point.

I saw very little of any of the others in the preseason.

Hayne was popular, but I don't know if SF is ready to try and use that "Aussie project" just yet, as a full time RB.

This weekend should be interesting.

If SF can keep this game actually close, then it might give us a big indicator of what the plan is with the other two guys.

If I actually had to try for a dart throw home run pick, I'd probably say its Davis, but that might not be the general consensus and its just a guess.

Hayne seemed to be viewed more as a "rugby player converted to NFL player" in the preseason.

I know a lot of that is media spin, but I seem to remember him being used everywhere in one preseason game, returns, and other special teams work. etc. etc.

Bush is probably your one shot at a semblance of production, at least until one of the others emerge.

What info are you looking for? It's definitely bush until he gets hurt
How much will Davis or Hayne play? What is their value moving forward? Is Bush really the best pickup here or will this be similar to the Texans backfield where "Blue" is the starter but it's a full RBBC?

For the record, I picked up Bush and am starting him in my FLEX but I really need a RB starter down the stretch...

The only similarities between HOU and SF is that they're both dumpster fires. The reason people are extremely wary of starting/leaning on Blue is because HOU is in chronic catch-up mode and he doesn't have the skill set to be in on 3rd downs/hurry-up.

Bush is actually still quite talented, even at the age of 30. He's also a natural pass catcher and actually stands to benefit from the fact the SF is a usually playing catch-up much like Riddick in DET.

Oddly enough, I think Bush will be more valuable than Hyde in PPR. Hyde was RB28 on a PPG basis in PPR and if you ignore week 1 he's essentially been unstartable. Bush will likely have a safer floor and doesn't need the 20 touches that Hyde needed to put up relevant numbers.

Co-signed. Nothing's guaranteed, but mid-RB2 numbers are certainly possible.

How many of you are outright dropping Hyde in redraft? I think best case scenario is that he only misses a month and comes back in week 13 but SF will likely be out of contention by then.

I'm not dropping. That playoff schedule is to juicy
But does it even matter? He played like an animal when healthy, tops in the league in broken tackles but it didn't really translate over to fantasy because he has the worst supporting cast in the NFL.

vs cle and det two of those weeks. Those teams are equally horrible

Mike Davis - RB - 49ers
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports 49ers RB Mike Davis has been diagnosed with a broken hand.
There goes one potential waive wire pickup. Davis should be considered week to week. The 49ers go on bye in Week 10. Davis' injury leaves the 49ers dangerously thin at running back, and will put pressure on Carlos Hyde to play through his foot injury this week. If Hyde can't go, the Niners will be left with Kendall Gaskins and a free agent addition at running back. Perhaps rugby player Jarryd Hayne will be re-signed.

He was dropped in my main 12 man league. Nobody picked him up in the next round of pickups but I will be grabbing him this week. Kind of a lotto ticket right now, not counting on much mostly because SF is in trainwreck mode.

Hyde is back at practice today.

Probably just limited action and I imagine it's not super likely he starts this week, but is he worth picking up? He's on my waiver wire and I need a bit of help at RB.

CLE and DET are both good matchups in weeks 14 and 16.

Ill tell you one thing. I have much more faith in him if he's healthy than my current rb2, Forsett. Love his playoff schedule.

Based on what, exactly?

Certainly not 2015 (or career) performance.
Ravens dont run, they are losing OLinemen, FOrsett never gets goal line touches, and their playoff schedule is tough. WTF could you possibly like about Forsett?
He averages 19 touches a game, 5 of which are targets in the passing game. He leads the team in RZ snaps (24) and GL snaps (6) which are nowhere near below league average.

The playoff schedule is rough but you also need to realize you only recently traded into Hyde. If you had owned Hyde/Forsett since the beginning of the season you'd be praising Forsett. Hyde was quite literally near useless even when healthy (not his fault).

most of Forsett runs come in the 4th quarter at least they have since I've owned him. It's bizarre usage. Flacco seems to sneak rather than hand it off at the one. Hyde wasn't useless in the giants game and that's the have he got hurt.

Well, here we are 2 weeks later and still no Hyde... not even a hint of him coming back. So, yeah, Niners were guarding his injury because it was most likely worst case. See you next year Carlos?

Seemingly, but it would appear as if SF would have had an ample opportunity to put him on IR. Why the delay?

Sometimes the body doesn't recover as expected. Kind of what happened to Kevin White as the Bears could've opted for surgery much sooner but gambled on him healing quickly on his own. Oops.
