You sure? A gadget play td? How often will that happen? Look at the rest of his involvement. Encouraging but not convinced yet. I'm mostly pissed that I started him for 4 weeks waiting for this and the first week I bench him he finally scores. I need to see more.

Didn't see him play today. Happy to get a TD but his box score is otherwise atrocious. Jonathan Stewart had 18 carries for 21 yards and McCaffrey only got 3 carries? As I've said in this thread, he hasn't looked special to me but at least he was involved. Not this week.
Yeah, I feel its time to reset expectations. I assumed going into season he'd get a 50/50 split and he'd get receptions in a good offense. If J. Stewart got injured, which has happened often in the past, he'd have huge upside in a great offense. Otherwise, I figured he would be at least RB2.
That has not happened. He is more like a flex third down receiving back. Those type of players can still do well in Non-PPR (Sproles) but it doesn't seem like McCaffrey is getting the kind of volume to make him usable. His floor is low and his ceiling is low. Two games where Cam went off and McCaffrey wasn't a big part of the reason.
He's really a hold and watch type state right now. With the offense in sync he at least has potential. If Stewart goes down and he starts to get all the carries he could be big. However, his time is not now and I don't think he's startable if you got better options right now. His scoring will be as random as any other WR or RB in the league.

Panthers aren't utilizing him correctly, there is absolutely nothing wrong with his game
Can you please elaborate? How are they using him incorrectly? How can they use him better? How do you know there is nothing wrong with his game?
I read somewhere that the patriots may have game planned against him. I don't know if that's true or if teams are trying to take him away or not. If so, it could explain a lot but I didn't watch the game.

People will see his td today and think he had a good game. He did look ok in the limited work he got but he only touched the ball 8 times. 8! That's practically unusable in a standard league. It's like a small cop back that rarely touches the ball in the red zone.
D'onta foreman touches he ball more than him and he hasn't even sniffed my lineup yet. And I feel more confident that foreman can score a td than mccaffery.
Expectations for mccaffery absolutely have to be adjusted down based on his usage. I'm not down on his career. I think he can be special if a team actually uses him. Yeah I agree. No idea why they drafted him where they did if this is how they're going to use him. Seems dumb
Mccaffery isn't the kind of back that you give 3 or 4 carries to. You have to give him 15+. He relies on following his blockers and waiting for a hole to develop. Give him 15+ carries and he will break a few big runs BC he has incredible vision and moves.

Sorry, but "he relies on following blockers" and "give him 15 carries and he'll get 3 big runs" is so generic that it could apply to 75% of RBs in the NFL.
Also, he went 13-for-47 against the Niners. Do you seriously believe that if he had carried the ball 2 more times, he would have gained another 20+ yards??
I don't think we have enough information to conclude enough either way. That was one game. If you guys want to label him a bust and drop him be my guest. I'll pick him up happily based on the upside. Not like Stewart is lighting it up and running away with the job.

McCaffery was drafted to be the future, I don't think its illogical to think he'll eventually get his shot at some point in the season. Still 11 more games to go. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a mccaffery apologist. I drafted him in most of my leagues and I'm sick over it. But I don believe that if you consistently give him 15 carries or more he will bust some big runs and his ypc will level out at over 4. I also think he's not being used as well as he could be as a receiver.
Basically all of my preseason fears about him have materialized.
His coaches have no clue how to use him.
His qb does not have a history of using a player like him.

I'm relieved I was able to divest myself of him just this morning.
4 and 1 with road wins vs. the Pats and Lions. I think the coaches have a handle on things.

Traded him and a 2018 2nd for Michael Thomas in a non-ppr league.
That was the other guys counter after I offered Davante Adams and a 2nd. Whew!

That's definitely a nice one yard gain.
You did exceptionally well. You will look back on this trade many times in the future and smile.
And that's the problem for mccaffery owners. They're winning. Thus no changes coming.
Mccaffery is a much better NFL player than fantasy player. His presence on the field changes the way the defense plays. Opens things up for the offense. Unfortunately there are no fantasy points for that.
I suppose what I meant to say was "his coaches have no clue how to use him as a primary point scorer and not just as a decoy gadget player.

I thought he'd look like Brian Westbrook on the field. Unfortunately he looks like Eric Metcalf.
Westbrook who went 46-193-0, 9-86-0 his rookie year or Metcalf who scored 10 ads his rookie year with 54 rec and 1000 total yards?

He's just not getting the touches, and he is being used as a decoy as much as he sees targets. They rarely run him inside. Stewart hasn't done anything to warrant getting 2-3x the touches yet here we are.
It's not a matter of the coaches not knowing how to use him. Players who are real difference makers force the coaches hand by their play on the field. People in this thread still on his bandwagon are basically just still making excuses for him for whatever reason. I drafted him in my rookie draft based off of how his college tape looked. Seeing him playing against bigger and stronger NFL players makes him look diminutive and seems to gets swallowed up most of the time he gets a hand off.
"figuring out how to use him" and "easing in a rookie" seems like making excuses. I believe any team would want a rookie or any other player to produce immediately.

He’s 21. There is no minor league in football. Rushing him too fast could destroy him. It’s been 5 games. Give him a little more time.
I presume you aren't referring to him getting "destroyed" by injury here. I'd like to see the list of RBs that were destroyed by playing too much too early.
The "figuring out how to use him" comment is odd too. He's a RB, not an iPhone.

He was never going to be a bellcow. I meant destroy his confidence which is pretty important to any athlete. Are you worried about Mixon? We’re you worried about lesean McCoy because he wasn’t amazing his first year in the league?
Cam is getting it together after looking rusty. This was cmac’s best game. He scored a TD. They only gave him 3 carries. What is he supposed to do with that?
Haha on the iPhone which is actually a pretty simple device to use.

This team and this player are both evolving imo. Cook and Hunt and Fornette all had clear lead back roles on established offenses. Cam is coming back from injury and CMC isn't a lead back type.
His usage throughout the year will likely change and evolve. For better or worse I'm not sure.

I've just never heard of a RB having his confidence shattered by being pressed into action too early. That sentiment seems to be pretty exclusively applied to the QB position. If you've got examples I'd be interested to hear them.
A coaching staff needing several months to figure out how to use a RB is also something I can't think of any examples of. It's not rocket surgery.
Both seem more like cliches than anything grounded in reality.
It's funny how much the hype has died down on McCaffrey. He was being drafted between 1-3 in dynasty rookie drafts and many times ahead of Fournette. Through five games so far it seems pretty unlikely at this point that he will be a traditional RB that will get a consistent amount of carries. Atleast not enough to make a significant fantasy impact based on where many people initially had drafted him FF drafts.
