RB Derrick Henry, BAL (1 Viewer)

Derrick Henry rushed 18 times for 103 yards and two touchdowns in the Titans' Week 14 win over the Raiders.

This is the typical November/December stat line for Henry, who now has a four-game streak of 100+ yards with a touchdown. What made today's feat extra impressive was the fact that he did so at less than 100% percent health. Henry was clearly slowed by a hamstring injury, one that sent him to the bench earlier than normal. It's an injury that must be monitored heading into Week 15. If he gets in full practices before the Texans' game, Henry will be a locked-in RB1. Dion Lewis would be in the streamer mix if Henry has a setback.

Here are my projections for Henry.  Last year he had 215 carries and Lewis had 155. I think it is fair to assume that Henry's carries go up and Lewis' down, so 265 carries seems reasonable. Last year Henry had a ypc of 4.9 but let's assume a regression to 4.5 ypc.  Henry had 12 rushing TDs, but let's assume 10.

I think the argument above is valid about receiving, but still, if Henry is on the field more, which I think is likely, I think 30 receptions is doable.  Lewis had 59 receptions and I can see him giving up 15 to Henry.

265 carries at 4.5 ypc=1,192 yards, 10 TDs

30 receptions at 7.5 ypc = 225 yards

Total ppr points: 231 points.  That would put him at RB 12 last year.

He might not have 30 passes, but he might have more rushing attempts or TDs.
Reposting this to show how far Henry has exceeded our expectations. This was my prediction in September, which quite a few thought was way too optimistic. And he has blown right by it.

Hamstring something to monitor this week. Terrible time for him to get banged up.  Hopefully he can rehab all week and he can play through it.

I can't figure out who would be more valuable (ppr) if Henry is unable to go.

Dion Lewis? Khari Blasingame?

Apologies if this is more of an Assistant Coach topic.
It would likely be a RBBC of some sort (I'm guessing), but I'd expect Blasingame to be more effective. He's a load at 6'0 233 & has surprising speed. Good receiver, too.

Blasingame had a couple nice receptions from the FB position this week & is a well-rounded hybrid-type runner/receiver.

I know hamstrings can be really limiting but I am hopeful given that he did come back to play effectively in second half with the injury.  Plus, Henry seems to be one of those old fashioned tough guys.  With the playoffs on the line, he will play.

Only thing that worries me is if something happens during the game.  But no way you can sit the king.  Tn needs this game

Titans coach Mike Vrabel said the plan for Derrick Henry is "the exact same as it was last week."

"I would say the [maintenance plan] would be the exact same as it was last week," Vrabel said of Henry's practice schedule. "There’s a lot of things that guys manage to get to the game on Sunday and that is our job, and it is their job as a professional to be ready mentally with limited reps. If he can take more reps we’ll give him more reps." Henry of course was limited for every session and watched closely by Tennessee's medical staff heading into Sunday before plowing ahead for 18/103/2 on a five-week low in snaps (37, 60%). Dion Lewis needs to be stashed everywhere in the (unlikely) event Henry can't muster through the week.

Watching him take a corner and enter the secondary has been one of the most exciting scenes this year...is he taking it to the house?  How many people are getting trucked along the way?  Good lord he’s big and fast!

I just know at most players size and speed combo,  the last thing I want to see is this guy coming at me.

Derrick Henry (hamstring) was sidelined for Wednesday's practice.

Coach Mike Vrabel said Henry's "maintenance plan" would keep him limited throughout the week, so the bruiser's absence from Wednesday's session isn't too concerning. Henry after all was limited leading up to Tennessee's blowout win over the Raiders before bulldozing his way to 18/103/2 ahead of Dion Lewis. At the very least, Lewis needs to be rostered everywhere to prep for any setbacks leading into Week 16. Henry will be a top-three option at his position if/when active against Houston.

I have no doubt he'll play, and play his heart out. And he'll get the volume he demands and has earned.

But does anyone have that feeling when they've flipped a coin 5 times and each time and it's landed on heads? Or when that shooter rolls naturals 5 times in a row?

Feels like Henry is playing more against regression to a mean than HOU this week.

Tom, my man. It’s not like you’re gonna sit THE KING. What’s the point of throwing out this negativity? Come on bruh! Positive vibes baby!

As a Texans fan. Henry bout to eat.

I will still take regression to a 100 yds and a score.

This is Derrick Henry's time of the year.

One factor that I haven't heard mentioned is the fact the he has a legit shot at a rushing title this season. He is currently #2, only 38 rushing yards behind Chubb, and 23 yards ahead of CMac.

Likely his only chance this year, and would be quite a feather in his cap.

Derrick Henry (hamstring) said, "I'll be ready to go" when asked about playing on Sunday.

Henry is playing at less than 100% due to a nagging hamstring injury. Regardless, he still posted a fine-enough 60% snap rate in Week 14. Continue to treat the PPR RB5 as a locked-in RB1. Dion Lewis is worthy of a bench spot with Henry hurting, as the Titans have proven to be willing to feed their pint-sized backup in the past with 15 touches in seven games last season.

I'm putting a mental ceiling on Henry for DFS rankings this week. (Starting in redraft) If they can get a lead, I totally think it will be some Lewis and the rest finding out how Blasingame is with a bunch of carries. They're falling in love with the FB (as the Titans always do) and he's been a dream come true WW signing for them. Can you imagine signing a RB off another team's PS, asking him to play FB- the guy posts 100% success blocking rate and studies so hard he can run WR routes in two weeks?

I'm so very nervous of the Texans speed WRs and the Titans secondary injuries. I think they can win this one though. They have to turn around and play them again week 17 and continue to win to make the playoffs. They're gonna rest Henry when they can. That Texans D is finding itself without Watt and Clowney. They have some weak games and some wow games. I don't like that they get a "do-over" in week 17.  Also Watt might return week 17...yeah they make me nervous. This is definitely a week I can see the Titans pulling Henry if they get a good lead.

Per Mike T: "There have been four running backs who've totaled 20 touches against the Texans, and their finishes have been RB1, RB2, RB6, and RB9."

Great matchup, hoping he gets enough touches and production early enough where he can still give us the points in case he does get a 2nd half pull.

And they have to play them again week 17.  Gotta get this win at home to win that division.
Titans play the Saints next week also, while the Texans play Tampa Bay. This weekend is pretty close to a must win for the Titans to get the division.

Edit: Not that I think the Texans over Tampa is a lock by any means but it's certainly a much easier match up.

Guarantee he'll play

As a Titans fan, I agree.

As a Henry owner I don't care about week 17.

He's going to get going early. The Titans need to establish the run, try to keep Watson and co off the field.  I'd bet on over 12 carries by halftime.

He's not getting pulled unless he aggravates the injury or they're up by 3 scores. I won't guess on the injury but this is going to be a tight game.

Next week scares me a bit, but I'll worry about that when the time comes.

As a Henry owner playing the 1st round of playoffs, I think I have to spend my last $1 of faab on Dion Lewis at this point (no zero bids).

I'd recommend Blasingame.
Thank you. I asked last week who the best Henry cuff is and got the sense the answer was Lewis (not saying the answer was wrong, just like multiple opinions on this).

Week 16 finals, but bonus for week 17. With $1 left, Blasingame seems a better choice.

Any other Titans fans can confirm Blasingame would be better (in ppr) over Lewis if Henry sits?

Titans would have to change game plan for short dump offs to Lewis when still in the hunt I would guess, but week 17....not sure.

Naturally, most people would automatically assume that Lewis is the obvious cuff, since he was the "starter" last season and the relief man this season, albeit with limited duties.

Of course, my answer isn't definitive. After all, we are talking about a guy that hasn't had a carry all year. However, just trying to read the tea leaves. Lewis just really seems to have fallen out of favor. Added to that, Blasingame seems the more natural fit for replacing Henry, should he miss time. He is a big smash-mouth-type player, but has good hands (as he showed last week), and has the speed to get up the field, as well.

I could see Lewis getting similar work to what he has been getting all year, with Blasingame hammering away at defensive lines, while catching a few balls also.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Derrick Henry (hamstring) will play in Week 15 against the Texans.

Henry's absence from practice this week was reportedly a "maintenance thing" after the 25-year-old played a four-week low in snaps (37, 61%) in Tennessee's blowout victory over the Raiders. NFL Network's James Palmer adds the team will see how Henry feels in the morning, but there's "no pitch count planned." Dion Lewis is worthy of a bench stash ahead of Week 16 but offers minimal standalone value as long as the King himself is good to go. Henry checks in as RotoPat's RB2 on Sunday.
