RB Ezekiel Elliott, LAC (10 Viewers)

Two years ago, someone at 345 Park Avenue leaked to Stephen A. Smith of ESPN the notion that Patriots quarterback Tom Brady had destroyed his cell phone in connection with the #Deflategate investigation. Within a day of the leak, Brady was suspended four games due in part to the allegation that he’d destroyed his cell phone.

Now, it seems like someone at 345 Park Avenue has leaked to Cris Carter of FS1 the notion that Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is about to be suspended, with some eye-opening details.

Via Ryan Glasspiegel of TheBigLead.com, Carter said on FS1’s Undisputed that “in the next 48 hours I would be shocked if Zeke was not suspended.” Carter added that, “based on the information that’s going to come out, it’s going to be fairly easy to determine that something happened to this woman in her four days of being with Zeke.” (The specific allegation is that Elliott committed five acts of domestic violence in a six-day window.)

Carter described the situation as a case of “assault or domestic violence,” and Carter hinted that “when the information comes out there’s going to be some similarities” to Tom Brady’s suspension, including “information that he had been advised possibly to give up, that was destroyed.”

Carter ultimately suggested that Elliott’s banishment will be in the range of Brady’s four-game suspension. If this happens, it will contradict multiple proclamations from Cowboys owner Jerry Jones regarding the absence of any evidence of domestic violence.

When every Jerry gives us the "nothing to see here" with his big Texas Smile, and sweat pouring down his face, I know there IS something to see

So the NFL has evidence that the police did not have? This is not a case of "double jeopardy" since Elliot obviously was never even arrested so if this was true, wouldn't the police be able to re-open their investigation and possibly charge Elliot with domestic violence?

The NFL's code of ethics policy says nothing about a player having to be arrested or charged with a crime to be suspended

I'm curious the amount of man power the police have to investigate cases like Elliott's?  For some departments they get so many cases coming in that I wonder if they don't have the time and man power for a deep investigation like the NFL could do.  The NFL has plenty of money and can take the time to dig deeper.

I wonder how much burden of proof plays into these matters.  Prosecution of a criminal case requires a case be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.  The NFL does not need to meet that threshold.  I don't pretend to know how this issue is addressed by the CBA; however, I assume the League does not require any certain amount of evidence, but merely a preponderance of the evidence to take action against a player for any conduct detrimental to the League.  If Rog and his team believe, based on the entirety of the evidence OR perhaps even based on the accused not being fully forthright, that a player has conducted himself in a manner which is detrimental to the League, they (I assume) have the power to take disciplinary action.

Correct me if I am wrong.

The league does not need any evidence. The commissioner has autonomy with provisions spelled out in the CBA (and upheld by courts) that he can do whatever he sees fit. He doesn't even need a legit reason. He can enact a conduct unbecoming clause or competitive advantage caveat whenever he wants, founded or unfounded.

I guess Cris Carter is shocked, then.  How much credibility did he have before this?

Not that theyre ever consistent anyway, but does anyone really think the NFL is handing out 4 games for allegedly 5 domestic abuse incidents?

Get your popcorn ready, likely HAS to happen today to give the Cowboys time to adjust. The issue is I don't think they can't wait much longer given the importance of this player to his team, and the fact they have been "investigating" for a year.

I've thought for the last few weeks they would do a classic Friday news dump and suspend him the first Friday after Jerry's HOF induction so this has been my target date for weeks now but if anything I thought it would come earlier.  At this point I'll parrot Cris Carter and say  if it does not go down today I'd be shocked.

Per SIRIUS XM, according to source, suspension IS a given, and it could be UP TO 6 Games......

I'm sure Jerrrrraaaaa is on the bat phone right now, making an appeal.

I would love to see 6 games to send a message to all players that star power does not mitigate poor behavior. Sorry too the Elliot owners, but it's good for the league.

Its amazing how "news" and media has turned into who can create and "report" from unnamed sources the most elaborate stories that will steal the healines

None of this is "news" ............ its lies, its fake, its National Enquirer combined with Jerry Springer on steroids

Were going with the FAKE NEWS angle?  :lmao:  Don't worry, the real news from the Commish is coming. Apparently he is bringing the HAMMER

hoffman0001   an unnamed source told me you were seen at a bar at 1 am this morning where there was a conflict involving several women, one of whom was hit and sent to the floor.

if I could get ESPN and every sports site to re-broadcast that, using me as a course, it would be your burden to prove my allegation wrong

yes - it happens that easy

Ever here where there is smoke there is fire? This player has had multiple issues in his first year. If he had kept is nose clean it's probably 50/50 on getting a suspension after one incident. When you have multiple, the commish brings THE HAMMER. We will see by days end, and you can keep claiming FAKE NEWS but he will still be suspended.

I hope each of you get 37% of your salary in the next 12 months taken away by your employer for something you allegedly did. Not found guilty of doing, no arrests, no trials, no convictions ..... just because your employer wants to set an example and try to keep you in line

I'm siure Elliot will be ok, are we not crying poor for NFL players? The guy HAS MULTIPLE offenses that could have been avoided with common sense. Clearly he needs to learn a lesson.

I don't disagree - but there were no trials, no arrests, no laws broken .......... who is Goodell to make moral lines in the sand? What if your employer tried the same thing?

I hope players union stands behind Elliot 100% on this.

What if the NFL was able to find out more than what the police were able to find?

Other than the domestic violence (if true) the "multiple" offenses are pretty minor. The pulling down the shirt thing was dumb, but you see that all the time in that setting (and I'm guessing the young lady was not all that upset) and driving 100 mph is also pretty dumb but everyone speeds.

Why do you think the Rog gives AF about the cowboys, and them adjusting? None of that makes sense. If they are truly investigating the matter, they should investigate however long they need to until theyre satisfied one way or the other.

Not exactly the same thing BUT... my employment drug policy is VERY clear.  If I test positive for marijuana, I can be fired, or sent to counseling, or put on leave.  It does not matter if I just got back from vacation in Colorado and was doing everything perfectly legally.  It only matters that my employer has a rule that I have broken (in their eyes) and by signing my letter of employment I agree to abide by those rules.

Now you can say that there is no proof for Zeke but how do we know what's been uncovered by the NFL investigation?  We'all probably never know.  I'm not saying I support Goodell or the way he's running things (I don't), but these players have to take accountability for themselves. And not put themselves into potentially compromising positions.

um Goddell is the guy the owners hired to manage this

1) Goodell and the Office of the Commissioner are the public facing voice of the will of the owners. They collectively are his boss and tell him what to do.

2) Article 46 of the CBA enables the Commissioner to impose any penalty for any reason as he sees fit, warranted or unwarranted, and there is nothing the players union can do about it (save renegotiate that provision in a future CBA).

3) As a collectively bargained agreement, the players have afforded that ability to the league. What "our employers" do or would try to do is entirely irrelevant. Courts have been involved over the commissioner's authority and have upheld his ability to rule on things under Article 46. In the few times the NFL has lost, they invoked other provisions in the rules with more defined requirements.

Lets assume the 6 games is going to happen and be upheld, what round does he drop to now?  No way I'm touching him in the first few rounds.

My main draft is this Saturday.  I'd probably take him in the first round and handcuff McFadden later.  Worth it for that late season surge.

Depends on how many teams in the league and how strong a drafter you are.  I would say late 2nd round is earliest and mid 4th round is about the latest he'll go.  Personally I would take him around pick 25 or so.

I'm still taking him round 1

Yikes, that seems a bit excessive. Oh well, the only league I own him in my team sucks anyways. Better draft position than I otherwise would have had, I guess?

Still has his appeal as well as legal options. I say no way he misses the first 6 weeks of the season. JJ has said he believed no suspension was coming and nothing was found in regards to domestic violence. Everyone just saw how Brady skirted a suspension. No way the Cowboys just accept the punishment without a fight.

That assumes....he stays healthy and gives you the rest of the season, and two McFadden can give you some production, and three that McFadden's ADP does not soar, which is till. Again end of the 2nd should be about right. I'd hate to see you over-pay and be in s 2-4 whole with too much to dig out of. Just my opinion.
