RB Ezekiel Elliott, LAC (5 Viewers)

  • He hasn't had a single carry in the preseason, this is either the hammy injury is more serious than let on or he is not ready (old man Forte is already back and probably going to play in the preseason this week)
  • He is a rookie
  • There are two other capable backs on the roster
  • Why would Dallas rush him back?  Morris is likely going to be good enough for a while.  First 3-4 weeks could be low volume.
  • Is Elliot going to know the pass protection after not being a full participant in practice?
  • Recency bias with Gurley is clouding reason here.  The Rams had nobody else on there roster that is good and any position in the offense.  Not the case for Dallas.
  • The Dallas Defense could be terrible and they could be forced to throw more than expected.
  • Dallas had a time share to start last season and only went away from it due to injury.  Wouldn't be surprised to see the same this year.
HTH
My counter to the capable backs on the roster/workload argument is that Jerry Jones has incentive to showcase this selection.  I am not expecting or wanting a Demarco Murray workload.  But to skip all the glaring defensive needs they have to draft a guy that high..he is going to get the rock.

You are right that Jones is like a 12 year old playing Madden on the XBOX.  He would give the ball to Elliot or Dez every play.  Luckily for the team, cooler heads should prevail (maybe??)

MMQB's Albert Breer reports the Cowboys had "some concern" when Ezekiel Elliott reported to training camp at 231 pounds before pulling his hamstring.
231 is only six pounds heavier than Elliott's 225-pound Combine weigh-in, but it still wasn't ideal. Breer also said Zeke "worked off some of that weight" before suffering the injury. "As a player, I loved him to death," one NFL scout told Breer. "He’s the highest graded back I’ve ever done. He does everything well—running, catching, pass pro. But as far as going to Dallas, the bright lights, big city, I’ve always thought it could be tough for him. He likes football. He also likes everything that goes along with being a star." Elliott could silence some of his critics by turning in a big preseason game Thursday night against the Seahawks.

He looks great running and pass blocking. Just to cool things off, TMZ has a video of him at a weed store in Seattle before the game.

Oh great
As per the article, herbal shop and not a marijuana shop, and he was confirmed in the article to not have made a purchase. Took some photos with fans. Sounds like a non-story, but if I'm the Cowboys I close the door and tell him to get his head out of his behind, just in terms of public perception.

It was a place to buy marijuana. If you want call it an herbal ship, ok. Same difference. It's probably no big deal IMO, but I want everyone in my league to see it.

As I watch T Williams interview.....I think you got them confused because he sounds like he's been smoking!

Tex

whats the latest he goes now? 5?
Maybe. Game wasn't on national tv and he's still a rookie who was hurt. Some might miss how good he was. Some people just won't draft a rookie. Also the 0 RB is hot right now so some just won't take a RB.

Nitpicking obviously but he ran very physical and took some major contact got just a few carries. I love it but I also don't if that makes sense.

He certainly didn't avoid contact did he.  Its fun to watch runners like that.  That being said, Morris is going to be on a bunch of my benches this year.

I wonder if that's how he will run in the NFL or if he was just fired up to play for the first time, but he ran like Lynch or Rawls. I didn't see that as much in college. There he seemed more interested in creating an angle to win with speed.

Looked like he had a chip on his should or something to prove.  Good effort for his first game though. I don't like reading to much into a hand full of carries in the preseason, but he at least looks healthy.

Cam Chancelor tries to kill shot Elliot but loses the collision, he almost lost his feet while Elliot was able to continue the play.

Defenders better learn to wrap up or Elliot is going to make them look silly.

This guy hasn't played a down yet in a real NFL game and he's already beaten up a chick and been seen in a pot shop. Buyer beware.

didn't beat up a chick = lie

not a pot store, herbal Chinese remedy stores = lie

c'mon, you gotta bring more than that to dethrown the #1 FF RB in Ezekiel Elliot ...

Did you see the game? The camera at one point move away from Zeke and Cam. After the cheap shot from Cam, Zeke charged him up. Cam started talking #### and Zeke raised his hands and told him to bring it. Then the very next play is the spin move you see from Zeke.

It was really obvious watching that Zeke started going after Cam when he got the ball I think that's why the Cowboys put him on the bench plus they saw enough no need to keep him out there.

There are conflicting reports about the altercation between him and the girlfriend.  I believe that where there's smoke there's fire.

And I'm assuming you're just playing stupid about the herb store. Not even worthy of a real reply.

Like the word play here.   (....where there's smoke there's fire...)

Seattle defensive players were talking trash to Elliott after his first couple of runs and the rookie didn't back down.

"They thought they had to welcome me in because I'm a rookie, so they were giving me all that rookie talk," Elliott said, "but I had to let them know I belong here.

"The NFL game is a little different. There's a lot more talking in it. Normally I don't talk, but they were being chippy, man, and I'm not soft."

Seattle safety Kam Chancellor nailed Elliott after a short pass over the middle sailed by him incomplete. Chancellor was called for a 15-yard personal foul.

"I don't know what that was. That was a little dirty. It's whatever," Elliott said. "That's just one of those you've got to walk away. That's all you can do in a moment like that."

Elliott also nailed Chancellor a few times on runs into the secondary.

"The type of runner I am, I'm a physical guy and I try to set the tone early in the game, so you're going to see it a lot in the first and second quarter," Elliott said. "I'm going to finish my runs hard and I'm going to try to set the tone."

Elliott said he'd like to play next Thursday in the Cowboys' preseason finale against Houston but doesn't believe he'll get the chance.

He's the kind of back you're going to watch and say, "wow he has 80 yards already" then he's going to bust one for 60.

Love the attitude.  He didn't back down one bit from a team full of #######s.

He still doesn't look as special to me....as a guy like AP or Gurley.  But he also didn't appear to have any meaningful flaws.  His pass protection looked good.

No just the highlights, so I missed the extra curricular activities.

I did see that Cam needed to use his hand to keep himself from falling to the ground after the contact. Zeke won that collision before he spins off.

I cant be for certain this info helps anyone..

However, I traded Antonio Brown for both Zeke and John Brown

I'm in a draft (redraft) that started this morning and I took him at 1.05.

1.01 A.Brown

1.02 T.Gurley

1.03 J.Jones
