RB Leonard Fournette, FA (2 Viewers)

Leonard Fournette rushed 15 times for 66 yards in the Jaguars' Week 3 win over the Titans, adding six catches for 26 additional yards.

Playing in driving rain for much of the evening, Fournette looked astonishingly bad until a 69-yard fourth quarter run that probably should have been a 78-yard touchdown. Fournette got tracked down from behind by S Kevin Byard. Before the marathon rumble, Fournette had 12 carries for -8 yards. He was stood up for losses of three, seven, four and five yards. That doesn't include his "no gains" or go-nowhere receptions. Fournette looked shockingly limited going side to side. Hopefully the weather was adding 10 pounds. Yet to reach 100 yards from scrimmage or find the end zone, Fournette has not been looking like a breakout candidate despite lofty snap totals. He has 10 days to rest up for a trip to Denver.

He's fine brothers.......Defenses are going to have to play the Jags differently than the Titans did tonight. He got hit on the backfield so much tonight. Fournette is going to be fine.

Don't trade him. Hold. If he actually looks bad then we will all adjust. Tonight he looked like he had no chance until he did then boom!

So close to a TD.

Here's your saving grace stat with Fournette.

He's averaging nearly 5 catches a game. So his floor is like 13 points in PPR and he's going to find the endzone multiple times. Good luck replacing that.

Don't think Fournette will continue to see stacked boxes playing in the rain every week moving forward after last night.  Minshew is the real deal.  Chark and Dede are talented enough.

He was the perfect buy low but after that long run which made his overall numbers respectable I'm not sure anymore.

As an owner myself, I think it makes him a perfect "buyer and seller will be miles apart on value" type guy. If you are selling that run is important. If you're buying, everying prior to it is.

Still has not scored a TD yet this year.  Unreal!  Can you imagine if he had scored a few tds?  He’s be upper echelon RB2 knocking on every week rb1 status.

Big sigh of relief as I have invested in the pair of Leonard and Hunt to anchor my RB corps in both my dynasty teams. After last weeks debacle, I wonder how many were able to buy low.....

Talent has never been the question for Fournette with me at least. He just needed a little help from his OL. If he stays healthy he should be in for a big year.

Was hoping to get him on the cheap in a few leagues, but this ruined that.  If owners come out looking to sell high, I'd be interested in striking a deal.

meh. He'll follow this up with a 13-39 stat line next game. if I owned him I'd sell high. Did he feel the heat that Armstead was putting on him with the 8-42 performance? did 4-nette go for 225 yards because he was playing against a pathetic denver run defense that would make a granny look good?

can't be trusted IMO

Just bench him next game and we will benefit by having him in our lineups. This is a different year. Each game he is scoring more points. All that talk about him getting in shape and getting his life in order were for real.

I get what you're saying and I don't disagree. I have had thoughts of selling high as well.

I can understand if you don’t like Fournette the player - he’s obviously had his issues.  But there are few RB’s with as great a situation as he.

...and the heat Armstead put on him?🤣

Yeah guys sell on the RB with the highest usage in fantasy!

Someone benched Lenny.

If you think that's going to last despite his injury history than yeah.  Can he hold up though?  He was beastly yesterday that's for sure.
This is what I am getting at. I don't just value a player based on volume. I consider injury risk, the likely hood the team will be competitive down the stretch and schedule.

That's how you win championships.

Sell high? lol he hasn’t even gotten a TD this year. You can relax, I think the Tds are coming as he has competent QB play with some quality WR’s.

Selling high is a great idea but it's tough to get rid of a workhorse RB.  Maybe others are in better shape than me but my RB is not very deep.

He is on pace for 2000 total yards!!! But also on pace for 0 touchdowns!!
Most of his games are going to be 15 carries for 60 and 4 receptions for 20.....the guy just doesn't have any vision......that long run yesterday there was hole a mack truck coulda went through

I like Fournette. Sure he'll miss some holes and needs space to get going, but he's a size/speed freak seeing tons of touches and he's a better receiver than I expected him to be. He's a throwback workhorse, in that volume doesn't slow him down over the course of a game. That said, I think selling high is the blatantly obvious play here. The offense isn't great and I expect defenses to catch up to Minshew. Fournette has missed games due to lower body injuries every year; he's missed games for non-injury reasons every year. This is a great time to turn him into a more reliable asset, in my opinion.

What Fournette has going for him:

  • 90%+ snap share
  • Emerging young talent at QB/WR
  • A role in the passing game
  • OL returning to full health
  • A defense that should largely keep game-scripts Fournette favorable
...BTW, these all could have been said this time last month, save for the Minshew/Foles switch.

And, how about the other 140 yards?? LOL
Have you been watching him?  Dude runs up the back of his linemen constantly.....he is the epitome of 3 yards and a cloud of dust......I concede that opportunity is there, so he will have a game or two like yesterday.  All I'm saying is, don't expect that to be the norm.  We know what he is.

I don't have specifics in mind, if that's what you're asking for.
Thought you might have seen something that others hadn't. They'll get more film on him, I'm sure, but I'm not exactly sure in looking at the stats and where he's throwing the ball that he has a distinct weakness that makes him fallible. Arm strength is a bit of a question, but not to a ridiculous degree.

I've only seen highlights and a drive here and there on RedZone. Just a general fade of the Cinderella story.

Such a weird time for people to try and crap on Fournette. He's going to have some monster games going forward once the TDS start rolling in.
Agree.

I understand wanting to sell high because of the injury and off field issues but this guy is a great talent. He's just been playing on a team without a QB. Now he's got more room with Minshew playing good and Chark making teams defend the entire field.

TDs incoming too.

Sometimes the Cinderella story is the easy narrative and ignores all the will, work, and talent that it took to get there. Scouting is hardly infallible, as you know (I don't need to tell you that). So, that's fine, fade the narrative. What about his play says they'll necessarily get this guy out of the catbird's seat that he's in?

I've watched every snap he's taken now. I'm genuinely not a scout nor expert, but his pocket presence passes my eye test, at least.

The only thing that hurts him is his lack of a true 2nd gear and breakaway speed. Other than that he's a beast. He's been held back due to injuries and playing on teams that don't have a pass game that opposing defenses even respect. I still think D coordinators are going to live with Minshew beating them.

He did this in college too.  Kinda came outta nowhere and just won games.  I think the kid has "it".

It's not like Leach can't coach or doesn't know QB play. Leach is loving this right now, that's for sure.

Then again, a quick Google search found he just melted down recently and called his players "fat and dumb" so there's a bit of the jerk and bluster in him, too. Grain of salt and all.

I don't disagree, but a general, high-level call is I'd trust myself to make on a QB 4 games in with only TV angles. The kid has looked good and I'm certainly pulling for him - Cinderella is  always a fun story in sports.

If you mean not make a high-level, important call, I agree with you. But in terms of his effectiveness until Week Eleven, we can be reasonably assured -- if one ever could be -- that he's not Rex Grossman.

There's no way Minshew will be as bad as Bortles so I expect Fournette to face, at the very least, slightly less stacked boxes. If Minshew gets better, which he had one of the best QB plays of the year yesterday on his last TD pass, then teams will start asking Fournette to beat them.

We're not there yet but couple more big TDs to Chark might do it.

Fantasy football stats to know from Week 4

Excerpt:

5. Leonard Fournette ranks ninth among running backs in fantasy points scored (65.8), one spot ahead of Aaron Jones (63.0). Fournette totals 518 yards and zero touchdowns. Jones totals 270 yards and four touchdowns. If excluding the value of touchdowns, Fournette would rank fourth among running backs in fantasy points scored while Jones would rank 21st.

Among all running backs, Fournette ranks second in snaps (234), second in snap share (91%), second in touch share (90%), fifth in carries (72), and sixth in targets (23). Fournette has gotten a little unlucky in the touchdown department, but his usage paints the picture of a top-five fantasy running back.

Remember, volume is far more important than efficiency when it comes to the success of a fantasy running back. Fournette was due for an efficiency regression (he came into the week ranking worst of 28 running backs in yards per carry since Week 1 of 2018) and bounced back in a big way (225 yards on 29 carries). Just like with yards per carry, we should expect Fournette to regress closer to the mean in terms of touchdowns (he ranked sixth in touchdowns per game 2017-2018). If the buy-low window hasn’t fully closed after a big Week 4, now may be the last time to pounce.
