RB Le'Veon Bell, FA (9 Viewers)

If they rescind it at any point, he wins.  He wants to be a FA & “re-set” the RB market.

All rescinding the tag will do is set the precedent that this kind of “hold out” gives the players more power/leverage.  If you’d do that because you want to spite him, that’s be dumb.
That is a good point.

And so do the steelers. If he holds out, in order to get something for him, their only option at this point is to work a trade and let him sign the franchise tag and then make the trade. If he comes back after 10 weeks, he will have a mysterious minor injury and magically be ready to go in February and they get nothing.
Well they'll get a 3rd round compensatory pick won't they?

Sure but he has to report some time this season or he is back right where he is now and when he does he risks being injured and NOT getting all of the $14.5 million guaranteed for this season.
Bell returns in week 12.

First carry.

Ouch, my hammy.

Admit it though, his other point made sense and we all know it... They were going to run him into the ground this year. 16 games, I bet he would've had > 400 touches.
Most likely but they were also talking about getting Conner to the mix.  My bet is that if this was the major concern for Bell they could have come to an agreement on number of touches per game.   Or maybe I am just naive in thinking that...

I think I remember reading (during the Cousins franchise tag situations) that teams don't get comp picks in these type situations.  It was a while ago, and I could be remembering incorrectly, though.
That may be -- perhaps you give that up when you slap the tag on a player.

If what is reported from his agent about workload is to be believed, I don't see how this is compatible.

More Ramon Foster on Bell: “He’s making 7 times what I make twice as much as Al (Villanueva) is making and we’re the guys who do it for him.”
The OL probably shouldn't be running their mouths about now, but I'll at least say one thing: Bell sounds like he has played his last real down as a Steeler. If you piss off your OL like that, you've really pissed them off. And I'd just love to see Le'Veon try that dance garbage behind the Jets OL.

Ooof.

Holy smokes
Is right.

If they rescind the tag the Steelers do not get a comp pick.    Rescinding the tag is the same as releasing a player - no comp picks for players you release.
The Panthers got a 3rd round compensatory pick when they rescinded Josh Norman's tag.

Honest question, could the Steelers rescind the tag, then sign Bell long term?
I'd think so, but at this point Bell would at least wait to sign and see what other teams would offer.  Rescinding the tag immediately makes him a FA.  Some other team could swoop in with a huge offer that the Steelers couldn't match (front loaded or something), and Bell would be gone for nothing.

Bell just sacrificed the respect of at least some of his teammates and the chance to be an all-time great Steeler whether he's back next year or not.

It's his right to hold out, no doubt.  He can make whatever business decision he wants, but it'd be a bad business decision for the Steelers to give him what he wants.  He lost a chunk of his long term leverage when he was suspended twice earlier in his career, and he's gotten banged up plenty too.  That's a result of his style and his usage, but that's what you get when you're an NFL RB like him.  If he had stayed clean, he'd have been locked up already.

I hope the Steelers stick to their guns, and if Bell wants to play, great.  He's not worth what he wants, and he'll find that out next offseason too.

Yep.

Way to go Foster.  OLs take a pounding every game opening holes so that Bell can be a star and you rarely hear them say anything, much less coming down on a teammate.  Sounds like Bell most definitely has worn out his welcome.

Based on the teammates, he's done in PITT now. Franchise Tag wasted. Bell wastes a prime year of earning. No winners except James Conner owners.

Based on some things people have said, I think we need an iron clad answer on this:

If the Tag is rescinded, can the Steelers make offers, or just all the other teams?

yes sir, they can, though i believe it would be the last team he would accept an offer from. *they would most likely not even make one noe

I don't get it.  If they can rescind the tag and then sign him to a long term deal, then what is the point of the negotiating deadline?
