Jets really find a lot of ways to NOT give this guy the ball
Michael Carter rushed six times for 21 yards yards and caught 2-of-2 targets for an additional 15 yards before leaving the Jets’ Week 12 game against the Bears (ankle).
Carter suffered his injury in the second half of a game where he was splitting touches with Zonovan Knight. He’s doubtful to return so Knight and Ty Johnson will handle the running back duties for the rest of the day.

Speaking Monday, Jets HC Robert Saleh told reporters that RB Michael Carter is questionable for Week 13 with a low ankle sprain.
Carter avoided a dreaded high ankle sprain and instead is dealing with a low ankle sprain that is not considered a long-term injury. It's possible that Carter suits up against the Vikings, but his health will likely mean more work for Ty Johnson and Zonovan Knight, who was surprisingly active ahead of James Robinson against the Bears. Robinson will almost certainly return to action if Carter misses time, but his playing time would be uncertain.

Michael Carter (ankle) did not practice Wednesday.
Carter's ankle injury could keep him sidelined this week against the Vikings, opening up snaps and touches for Zonovan Knight and Ty Johnson, a pass-catching specialist. Knight would profile as the team's early-down banger if Carter can't go against the Vikings. The rookie gained 103 yards on 17 touches in his Week 12 debut. Knight should be picked up in all formats. James Robinson, a healthy scratch in Week 12, could be active if Carter is out.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh said Michael Carter (ankle) is doubtful for Week 13 against the Vikings.
Carter did not practice this week following his Week 12 ankle injury. His absence would open up early-down duties for Zonovan "Bam" Knight while Ty Johnson functions as New York's primary pass-catching option. Knight would be a low-end RB2 this week against a Vikings defense allowing the ninth lowest EPA against the rush. Johnson would be a PPR flex option in deeper formats.

Michael Carter (ankle) is no longer on the Jets' injury report.
Now back in the fold, Carter will look to re-take his role from rookie running back Zonovan Knight, who has totaled 221 yards from scrimmage over the last two weeks. Carter hasn't exactly lived up to the expectations of fantasy managers since taking over for the injured Breece Hall in Week 8. While he's likely to get worked into the mix in Week 14 against the Bills, the Jets have no reason to sideline Knight given his recent play. Carter will be hard to trust as anything more than a low-end RB3 this week.

Michael Carter rushed two times for six yards in the Jets' Week 16 loss to the Jaguars, adding five receptions for 44 additional yards.
Although Carter has just six carries for 21 yards in two games since Mike White (ribs) went down, he was actually Gang Green's leading receiver this evening as Zach Wilson and Chris Streveler largely checked down in rainy conditions. Good if you were forced into starting Carter in PPR leagues, but very, very bad if you're the Jets. Although White will probably return for Week 17 against the Seahawks and stabilize the Jets' offense, Carter is a poor PPR FLEX bet right now.

The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt writes the Jets think Michael Carter "will bounce back."
With Breece Hall expected to be lagging behind in training camp, the Jets could potentially be in line to give early work to Carter and Zonovan Knight. Carter is a better fit as the passing-down back in a tough New York opening schedule, and Aaron Rodgers has plenty of practice throwing at Aaron Jones. Perhaps Carter could be a worthwhile opener on fantasy rosters for zero-RB teams.

The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt believes Michael Carter will begin the season as the Jets’ No. 2 running back.
Carter is in a three-way battle with second-year UDFA Zonovan Knight and rookie fifth-rounder Israel Abanikanda to handle RB2 duties behind Breece Hall. Rosenblatt notes in his article that the possibility of signing Dalvin Cook “looms large on this position group,” but he thinks the running backs in the building will get the first crack at the backup running back role. Carter has been a capable receiver out of the backfield since joining the Jets in 2021 but struggled on the ground to the tune of 3.5 yards per carry last season. For now, Carter makes for an interesting late-round stash in PPR leagues, but it’s possible we see Abanikanda usurp him on the depth chart at some point in the season — which Rosenblatt also hints is a possibility as the season progresses.

SNY’s Connor Hughes expects Michael Carter to be the odd man out if the Jets sign free agent Dalvin Cook.
Always more beloved by fantasy managers than Jets management, it would appear third-year pro Carter has fallen behind Zonovan “Bam” Knight on the depth chart. Entirely off the 2023 re-draft radar even if he maintains his Jets roster spot, Carter’s Dynasty light is flickering. Getting a shot as a pass-catching back elsewhere is the only thing that could Carter’s 2023 juices flowing.
It seems more likely that they release or trade Knight. Carter is more versatile.Hopefully Michael Carter is released, he no longer has a shot at meaningful playing time with the NYJ.
True, although what may give the nod to Knight is his ability to play on special teams. If they dress 3 RBs, you've got Hall and Cook, neither of whom plays on ST and one of Carter, Knight, and Abinikanda. Whichever of those three are active would probably need to play ST. They could release Knight and make Abinikanda inactive, but Carter would then probably need to play ST - that's not his game although I imagine they could coach him up to do it.It seems more likely that they release or trade Knight. Jets released RB Michael Carter.
Chiefs seem like a good fit.Weird.
He'd been playing ahead of Dalvin Cook for the last month. Wonder what happened?
ETA: Probably a good 3rd down RB signing for someone. Carter has always given me a Duke Johnson vibe. He's not a feature RB, but he can contribute. I wonder if a playoff contender lands him, as I'd think there should be many teams looking for a #2/3 RB, who plays ST.
That's a good call. I was thinking Minnesota maybe.Chiefs seem like a good fit.Weird.

Miami has to play the NY Jets TWICE in the next 4-5 weeks
Miami has to play the NY Jets TWICE in the next 4-5 weeks
Probably not. He's got to go through waivers, first off. Then you've got Mostert, Achane, Wilson, and Brooks. Where is going to go? You need an average speed, average size, pedestrian back?
No.
Poor man’s Kenny Gainwell and that isn’t saying much.Weird.

Exactly what I was thinking. Why is it so imperative that you have a guy who's called the "3rd down back"? Going to take possibly the most skilled player off the field because we need a critical play.there are many reasons why hackett shouldn’t have a job, but his use of michael carter confounds me. he doesn’t offer anything better than hall or cook. he sees the field so i think hackett can think he has a 3rd down back. hall does everything better than carter. cook had a hot hand against LV, but hackett couldn’t figure out how to keep him going. why have hall and cook on the same team and then use carter? i’d sit carter and dress izzy. heck, i woulda cut carter and kept bam.
Whoever claims him I don't think he's worth a roster spot on fantasy teams.Bengals fans are really pushing for them to claim him on the X, but I don't get it personally.

Did he store a copy of the playbook in the cloud?
Agree that said wouldn't mind Texans taking a stab at him. Couldn't hurt.Whoever claims him I don't think he's worth a roster spot on fantasy teams.Bengals fans are really pushing for them to claim him on the X, but I don't get it personally.
I alway thought he was a pretty solid pass catcher, no?the only reason why this guy played on 3rd down is because hackett played him on 3rd down. other than that, i don’t know what skills he has that makes him better than your 1-2 down back. he was inferior to cook and hall in every department. he also isn’t a very good blocker.
I alway thought he was a pretty solid pass catcher, no?
I think that's his game, or at least should be his game. That's what the Jets drafted him for, but he showed quite a bit more than that in his rookie year. Not sure if that was just due to the OL strength, but clearly team brass didn't think of him as a full time guy as they aggressively moved up to draft Breece heading into Carter's sophomore season. In virtually all respects, his game seemed to fall off from his promising start, and as mentioned, the team went away from him even last year with Bam Knight, Ty Johnson and now Cook this year.I alway thought he was a pretty solid pass catcher, no?the only reason why this guy played on 3rd down is because hackett played him on 3rd down. other than that, i don’t know what skills he has that makes him better than your 1-2 down back. he was inferior to cook and hall in every department. he also isn’t a very good blocker.
100% get that.I alway thought he was a pretty solid pass catcher, no?
Us Jets fans keep saying he's terrible, but please take us with a grain of salt. There were some pretty good players not getting playing time because of him, and Jets fans didn't like it. I was one of those. Mix that with what I think is an overvaluation by the fantasy world of Carter in general (remember when he was a first round rookie pick at like 1.12 for desperate players?) and you've got me pooh-pooing him a little too much. A few NFL teams wanted him. The Jets honestly had no room and were stunting the growth and talents of Hall, Cook, and Abanikanda.
Michael Carter played on 27-of-71 snaps in the Cardinals’ Week 12 loss to the Rams.
This was Carter’s first game since being claimed off waivers by the Cardinals on November 15th. His 27 snaps were only three fewer than James Conner’s 30, while his 19 routes run led the Cardinals’ backfield. In total, Carter managed 34 yards from scrimmage on eight touches. Undrafted rookie free agent Emari Demercado played on just 14 snaps and ran only six routes, a trend that will likely continue as long as Conner and Carter are both healthy. Interestingly, Demercado and Carter split third-down snaps, while Conner worked exclusively on early downs. Conner continues to be the Cardinals’ lead back, but Carter’s usage in his first game with the team should be concerning for Conner managers with the fantasy playoffs looming. Carter is worth an add-and-stash in deeper leagues where managers can afford to do so.
