Geno with a subpar offensive line isn't exactly a recipe for an offensive explosion. That being said, Penny found success last year so there is a chance Geno is competent and Penny/Walker provide RB2 numbers.

Penny's success came with Wilson at QB though. I am no convinced Geno Smith or Drew Lock can play anywhere close to the level Wilson has. I just don't get excited about the idea of having the RB on a Geno or Drew Lock led offense. That said, the prices seem reasonable.

And it’s a horrible OL, which is in part why Wilson looked worse and worse I. seattle.
If he can stay healthy (a huge if) then Penny has volume-based RB2 upside.
With comments about 20+ Carrie’s a game, I’m concerned his ADP will continue to rise. By my redraft day a week before the season, Penny might be a reach.

Certainly could be a volume play. Like you said, have to watch the ADP. Right now Best Ball is really controlling ADP. It could change a lot once redraft and more casual fans take over.

Very true.
He was dealt for Gage in my league right around the NFL draft. It’s either the exact right price or a total bargain.
QB/OL play will likely be the deciding factor.

I’m in agreement, but it probably means the Hawks will be even more run heavy at least.

"So we're just taking care of him," Carroll added. It does not sound like a serious issue, but any soft-tissue injury is a concern for a player with Penny's history. He almost certainly will not play in the first preseason game, and he could miss some practices next week as well. Penny appears to be ahead of Kenneth Walker on the depth chart right now, but that could change if he is on the sidelines for a couple of weeks”
Of course Carroll is downplaying it, and hey… Maybe it really is nothing. But groin injuries can be nagging, and it’s not exactly like Penny has been an Iron Man.

Walker ADP approaching 8/9th round range and he's still a steal.
Hunt, Walker, Pierce, Henderson and Gainwell are fantastic mid-round targets for Zero RB / Hero RB drafters this year.

Here are the negatives as I see it and they aren't good.
-Explodes last 4+ weeks of the season with very little left to play for in these games and still had Russell Wilson at QB to help open up some big running lanes for him. I'm not sure I see that happening right away this season with Lock as the QB.
-Next is this Rookie that has a lot of talent and would seem destined to get a lot of touches.
-Seattle is not going to be very good, perhaps a 3-4 win team as they are constructed right now. How often are they going to be running out the clock?
I loved Penny as a League impact player down the stretch, helped me win a league or two so I have feelings here but my brain is telling me that he would need to fall pretty far for me to feel good about drafting him and trying to count on him.

Just looked at Penny’s original NFL.com draft profile. Prospect grade 6.30, “Will eventually be a plus starter.”

In a redraft I'd prefer Penny by a few rounds and fwiw I own a healthy amount of both of them.

In redraft I think it breaks one of two ways:
- Someone has strong (positive) feelings about Penny and/or Walker and they go too early for me; or
- No one has sufficiently good feelings for either and they fall enough for me to get involved.

ADP is 8th right now. Factoring in that I don't have a comfort zone in terms of who will be the lead back, I would say 10th maybe? I do think Pete rides one of them, assuming one proves up to the task. Rotations in Seattle are more the result of someone being unable to be "the guy" than a conscious philosophy.
I don’t even think this is a question, I honestly have zero doubts that Penny begins the season as the lead back. Obviously injury or performance can change that but that’s how it’s going to start. Book it.

Completely agree in terms of starting the season. I was speculating further into the season. This is a horse race that could change leads a few times I think.

-I have Penny almost looking outside inward at like 18-25...seriously you are smoking cheeba taking this guy at 8 overall in the 1st round...that is a Titanic move taking Penny on a bad Seattle team in the 1st round.
I'll say it since nobody else seems to be able to...I'll bet money he doesn't come close to his very best game last season. 15-20+ pts a game rush/rec, you are high as a kite if you are punching in numbers like that and anyone who knows me thru these boards over the years...no problem eating crow for me and I hope I am wrong...BUT LET'S GET SERIOUS!
The Seahawks are on a collision course for a Top 5 pick next year and I don't see Penny lasting wire to wire as the lead running back

Yes, this. Cheeba is legal up here but it's not good enough to take him 8th overall or even RB8. 10th round in a 12 team redraft would be enticing but someone in my league will bite sooner I suspect.

I'm not aging well and might have misunderstood...8th rd is totally different and yeah I would start kicking tires and going for test ride super quick, might even take delivery sight unseen once we pass the 8th. I like his talent and wish he were the lead dog behind a strong passing attack where he could find wide lanes and nobody touching him but that's not the situation right now in Seattle.

Bad teams can support viable fantasy RBs (eg. James Robinson). The main problem I see is that it will be next to impossible to get both Penny and Walker at reasonable (redraft) prices, which is what I would want. If you somehow had both, I feel like you could confidently start one or the other at various points in the season depending on performance and/or injury. In my league, someone will be hot for Penny and someone else will be hot for Walker and I'll end up with neither on that basis.

He was putting up crazy numbers at the end of last season. I think he goes for 1,100 / 10 TDs. He's on a 1-year deal 5.75 MILLION dollar deal. He's playing for a big boy contract. He averaged 6.3 yards per carry last season and is playing for a BIG CONTRACT.
What's not to like? Seattle forecasts to run the ball a ton and he is a capable pass catcher. Pete Carroll thought enough of him to take him with a late 1st Rounder. He knows RBs. Would like a better QB situation, but he can still produce great as a RB2/RB3. I don't think the Rookie is significantly better enough to take his Penny's job or eat into his carries in a substantial way.

He's looked good in stretches, hard to envision him as the RB1 wire to wire but maybe you are on to something. Tough schedule, Division games, poor OL, poor starting QB-Geno Smith, there's plenty not to like.

Penny's history of injuries, an offense which looks like it will struggle and the addition of Kenneth Walker combine to give me cause for caution.I’m all in on Penny this year; taking him in every league I can get my hands on him. He has pedigree and his size/speed combo is probably only second to DHenry. I think he stays healthy, gets 300+ carries, and goes for 1200 + and 10 TDs.
Grab WRs early and Penny late.
