RB Ronald Jones, Cowboys (1 Viewer)

It's funny. There's no shortage of RB talent around the league. What there is a shortage of is RB health and durability. Tough yards and popping back up. I wonder how long it will be before we start seeing full-blown four man committees and things of that ilk.
Yeah, seriously. Almost all of the RBs the Lions have on their roster suffered some sort of injuries last year. I don't know how the RBs of the olden days held up to 350 carries year after year.

To be very clear, I'm not saying the older guys were tougher. I think the opposite. The speed and force of the hits these days make it like not just a car wreck with every hit, but a serious car wreck with every hit. There's no way for the body to withstand the punishment.

Netflix Reynolds was 4th string most of the year and had the top PFF grade for RBs [back to back weeks] late in the year when both Swift & Williams were out. In their last preseason game the OL snaps were almost all taken by 6 reserves - absolutely dominated. Detroit has serious talent + depth up front.

That and scheme, they’ve almost become like the 49ers. We expect Swift to be close to be Pro Bowl level but regardless of health they are going to have an effective running game.

Wasn’t more than 6-8 years there were bell cows everywhere. Go back a few more years and 350-400+ touches were the norm. These days any game with 20+ touches induces backflips.

I really thought KC was the perfect place for Jones, and he had a shot at the starting gig. Looks very wrong now. If he can't land a spot there, where can he?
I think he'll end up on a practice squad, and bounce around when there are injuries.

Honestly think you're right. If he can't start for KC, then who?
The backfield is looking like one of the weakest. I said earlier where could he really go to compete for carries if he can’t in KC.

YPC, he performed better than Pacheco.

But RoJo no Pass Pro, and RoJo is no Special Teams pro.

Or wait until the Bills cut Duke Johnson, who proved last year he could still play. Seriously though, every time I see "Gallman, FA" on MFL I sort of wonder why.
Every time he’s had an opportunity, he’s done well. He protects the QB, runs hard, moves the pile - he must be a total jerk or something because I cant understand why he’s unemployed.

Wayne Gallman is sitting on his couch right now. If I’m Reid I’m making a phone call. Stat.

I think there are a lot of guys like that, not just RB.

When the union negotiated the vet minimum I think they were trying to screw the undrafted rookies that didn't get to vote on the CBA. Unintended consequences imo. Might sound crazy that a team worth $5Billion is worried about saving a million here and there but not only are you saving $ on your RB#4 but you are also signing a younger player that could develop. We know these coaches/GMs have quite an ego and finding/developing your very own James Robinson feeds into that ego.

If I needed a RB to start for me due to injuries I'd much rather have Duke Johnson. If I need a #4 RB who is nothing more than in insurance policy Snoop Conner starts looking pretty good.

The Kansas City Star's Herbie Teope reports Ronald Jones made the Chiefs 53-player roster.

Jones, per Teope, played his way onto the final KC roster with a strong third preseason showing. Jones' roster spot seemed tenuous at best with the emergence of rookie Isiah Pacheco in training camp. Staying on KC's roster is probably the worst thing that could happen to Jones' fantasy value. He could have fallen into regular carries on another roster with less running back depth. Nevertheless, Jones will start the 2022 regular season without a defined role. Clyde Edwards-Helaire will be the Chiefs No. 1 back, with Jerick McKinnon likely taking on passing down snaps.

potential inactive each week, since the Chiefs roster a FB?

Ronald Jones is the back to own in KC unless they trade for somebody. I think CEH is so bad that RoJo's talent wins out in the end somehow.
Looks to me like CEH won the job. Sure the competition wasn’t great, but how could that be on him?! He is not one of my favourite picks, but he’s become a pretty decent value on a ++offensive team. Im wondering if I’ve missed out on drafting him, time will tell.

I was wishcasting and being tongue-in-cheek. The job is CEH's until he loses it to one of these guys who have obvious flaws in their game.

I did not miss him. I deliberately avoided him then drafted AJ Dillon a round later. Hopefully this isn't one of those moments where someone bookmarks this to show me later when everything's gone opposite day on me.

What’s everyone expecting of this guy? Any positive news on him from any KC homers? Grabbed him in the last round and if he’s gonna not be helpful there are other players on the wire I’m sure we all could pick up in his place

>>Deep backfield

The Chiefs enter the season with five running backs on the active roster, which includes fullback Mike Burton. While Clyde Edwards-Helaire is the clear starter and rookie Isiah Pacheco is the expected starter at kick returner, it’s unclear if the Chiefs will keep Jerick McKinnon, Ronald Jones or even both active next Sunday at Arizona.

Reid didn’t clarify matters on Monday, either.

“We’ll just see how it goes with who’s up and who’s down,” Reid said. “If they’re all up, they’ll have an opportunity to touch the football. If they’re not, then whoever is up – there will definitely be three of them up – and they’ll touch the football.”<<

That doesn’t sound like a recipe for fantasy success.
ETA: just to clarify since this is a Jones thread, I meant for all 4 backs. Could be RBBC from hell.

Before he got injured CEH had 2 100 yards games with 5.9 and 7.3 ypc. Are we selling CEH a little short (in the Jones thread).

I was commenting on Reid’s comments.

this thread has come full circle :)
Rojo was the man, great value, sure to usurp CEH. The media shifts the narrative, and Rojo gets smashed. The fanboys leave. Rojo makes the team. The fanboys are back, but with tempered expectations. A complete fantasy cycle in 4-6 weeks. You love to see it!

What’s everyone expecting of this guy?
Not much
HSG, you were singing Rojo's tune only weeks ago. Your conviction evaporated this quickly? Sheesh

CEH isn't a world-beater. But he's the RB1 in a good offense and was a clear value in PPR. It's on him to perform now or be tossed aside for good.

The question was what do I expect. My answer is my answer.

And I wasn’t singing his tune - I was evaluating the situation and identifying potential. A month ago. Before most all the reporting went south.

Now Pacheco is getting PT ahead of him and he *barely* made the roster. Things change. Situations evolve.

There’s a path to opportunity here, but other than the 1 dynasty share I can’t get rid of, I have no investment in RoJo. Nor would I pick him up off of waivers.

Check my last couple weeks of commentary on him, what a disappointment he is, and how I drafted Pacheco in that 1 league I have him.

Personally, I believe he’s the best between the tackles and short yardage back on the roster. Clearly he hasn’t played up to that in the eyes of those who make decisions for the chiefs.

You can never count on Andy Reid to tell you what's going to happen when it comes to RBs. It's like he gets off on moving his mouth while telling us nothing at all.

I think people are making too much of a big deal about RBBC. This is Edwards-Helaire's backfield until he likely does what Edwards-Helaire does. Then it's anybody's. Maybe Alexander Mattison or others, even. Nothing to stop KC from releasing Jones or Pacheco. Helaire will stick, but only because of his sunk cost.
