He just has too many holes in his game. Can’t block, can’t catch, waaaaaaaaaaaay too many fumbles. It’s just not good enough. As a Bucs fan I’m fine with this guy being in a rotation but there’s just too many mistakes.
Better runner than LF, not a better player.Great buy low candidate IMHO. He is twice the runner that Fournette is.
His time will come.
There’s very very little chance Jones pulls way ahead of LF and becomes the sustained every down guy.
I agree. I think it’s a 3-headed mess all year, and with Arians, any mistake could mean a benching.Better runner than LF, not a better player.

Especially when Fournette drop caused an interception and it had no repercussionsI can't believe we are back to "fumble and get sent to the-Shadow Realm" with Jones.
He only had 2 last year which in fairness was 2 more than Fournette had.He just has too many holes in his game. Can’t block, can’t catch, waaaaaaaaaaaay too many fumbles. It’s just not good enough. As a Bucs fan I’m fine with this guy being in a rotation but there’s just too many mistakes.
Not mostly, but entirely.Fournette was mostly responsible for that INT though right?
1000% responsible. There's no excuse for vollyballing a pass, unless you're actually playing volleyball.Fournette was mostly responsible for that INT though right?
He only had 2 last year which in fairness was 2 more than Fournette had.
Now that I agree with, except when he was hurt.Ronald Jones never been anything but a sell.
3 the year before and 1 this year. That’s 6 in 31 games. I don’t know what the average back does in that capacity but it seems like Arians has had enough. He only had 2 last year which in fairness was 2 more than Fournette had.
I’m not really defending Fournette. I think he’s pretty terrible too. Bucs should have drafted a back instead of Trask imo.Especially when Fournette drop caused an interception and it had no repercussions
I agree, that was mistraskI’m not really defending Fournette. I think he’s pretty terrible too. Bucs should have drafted a back instead of Trask imo.
Ezekiel Elliott had 6 fumbles in 2018 alone, in just 15 games. He was rewarded with a $90,000,000 contract.3 the year before and 1 this year. That’s 6 in 31 games. I don’t know what the average back does in that capacity but it seems like Arians has had enough.
When Fournette was signed, many pointed to Ronald Jones’ pass protection. Some research revealed that Fournette was the 6th lowest rated at pass protection in the NFL at the time of the signing. Also, the fact he can’t provide any pass protection for Brady is another reason his snaps are limited.
Seriously.Another week or two like this and maybe Ke'Shawn Vaughn will get a chance.
Yes, Leonard is also very bad. That’s been established. I don’t know why Arians likes him more than Jones but he does.Ezekiel Elliott had 6 fumbles in 2018 alone, in just 15 games. He was rewarded with a $90,000,000 contract.
He went on to have 3 in 2019 & 6 in 2020.

“According to Pro Football Focus, Fournette received the eighth-most pass protection snaps of any back in the NFL last year with 83, yet posted the site’s sixth-worst grade out of 58 qualifying backs.”
not defending Ronald Jones, just pointing this out.
Yep - clearly Jones’ mistakes are worse than Fournette’s mistakes despite the same results.Yes, Leonard is also very bad. That’s been established. I don’t know why Arians likes him more than Jones but he does.
off-topic but I can’t believe you traded away Edmonds after talking me into trading for Edmonds.Wow am I ever kicking myself for dealing Chase Edmonds for Ronald Jones and Damien Harris for a second and third. I have no running backs.
I get what you're saying and remember the discussion, but I never tried to talk you into trading for him, actually. I never commented about what you gave away, either. I wouldn't have. All I presented was my thought process about Edmonds, unbiased as could be, taking everything into account.off-topic but I can’t believe you traded away Edmonds after talking me into trading for Edmonds.![]()

At the moment it feels like they should have drafted a corner, but, different thread.I’m not really defending Fournette. I think he’s pretty terrible too. Bucs should have drafted a back instead of Trask imo.
As a Mostert owner who doesnt trust Ty'Son and doesnt want to blow big $$ on Elijiah Im rolling the dice on Jones vs Atlanta. Now starting per Arians?
Anyone trust this BS?
Matchup is there...maybe for both Rojo and Fournette. Scared to death though.
He did this last year too. Jones was hard to predict due to puzzling coach decisions. As such this year I have just one share in a dynasty league. I am only playing him unless injury dictates his workload(Fournette goes down) or I am desperate on a bye week. I have Three better backs I am rostering. Now starting per Arians?

I agree on all accounts. Jones is a better runner (substantially) than Fournette but the other stuff drags him down quite a bit.btemp said:First Brady will have a lot of influence on this decision.
Second, as terrible as Fournette is at pass blocking (and he's terrible) Jones is worse. And as mediocre/bad as Fournette is as a receiver (see: INT), Jones is worse.
My outside the box guess is that as Bernard gets more comfortable, and if he can show anything as a runner, he'll take over more snaps. He's the style of player the Bucs should've grabbed last year (aka can pass block and catch). We'll see.
I don't believe this is accurate.btemp said:Second, as terrible as Fournette is at pass blocking (and he's terrible) Jones is worse

Always has been a hybrid of Shanny & Hoodie.Sam Quentin said:BA has gone full Shanahan…
I think Arians is more of a Marshawn Lynch...."I'm only telling you [insert random name here] so I won't get fined."
Shanahan: I don't have to tell you.
Bill: mumble mumble mumble we're on to Cincinnati.

Statistically speaking, Jones grades higher by PFF.
IIRC all but 5 RBs in the NFL graded higher than Fournette as of last year.
I disagree here as well. While neither is great, I've seen plenty enough of both that I can say with confidence there's not a lot of difference. Which is why they brought in Bernard.
Where are you getting these two takes? Do you have evidence to back them up, or is this merely anecdotal/your opinion?
So, anecdotal, based on your eye test. Those takes are grossly off. I've watched every one of RoJo's snaps, he's been called out by Arians and Koetter for his pass pro, and couldn't catch a cold
This is so obvious. If PFF is saying otherwise, their 16-year older intern doesn't know what he's seeing.
But there's an even simpler argument - Ronald Jones isn't used as much in pass pro and passing situations. That's part of why his snap count went down as the year progressed. He had only 30% of offensvie snaps in the post-season and wasn't even TARGETED for a pass.
They brought in Bernard because both players suck at pass pro and in pass catching. As did Lesean McCoy (at pass pro).
Ronald Jones rushed six times for 27 yards in the Bucs' Week 2 win over the Falcons, adding a nine-yard reception.
As promised, Jones started. As expected, he remained mired in stalemate with Leonard Fournette, who ended up out-touching Jones 15-7 and out-gaining him 76-36. Jones made a mental error when he ran out of bounds ahead of what should have been a second half first down. The Bucs simply trust Fournette more even though both backs are prone to major mistakes. There is no rational DFS or re-draft case for Jones in Week 3 against the Rams.
“This is his third year [in the offense], man, it shouldn’t be a problem,” Arians said. “And at times it is. It’s just attention to detail like missing that blitz. But he is a great runner. Caught the ball well. I would like to see him run for the first down. But yeah, I mean his mind is fine, it’s just his play isn’t as good as it should be.”So, anecdotal, based on your eye test.
I’m not defending Jones pass pro. He’s not great. But he’s better than Lenny. it might not be a huge gap between them, but he’s not worse.
whatever. It’s Ronald Jones. Not my hill to die on. Agree to disagree.

It's not just anecdotal. By the Bucs staff and analysts it's been repeatedly mentioned as an issue. From day one.
When asked if Leonard Fournette was more trustworthy than Ronald Jones in picking up blitzes, Bucs coach Bruce Arians said Jones' play "isn’t as good as it should be.”
"It speaks for itself,” Arians responded when asked about Jones' missed pass protection that resulted in a sack and seven-yard loss. “Ro, that’s his guy. He’s got to get out of those types of situations. I thought he ran hard and protected the ball, but again, you can’t have those mental errors. It’s just attention to detail, like missing that blitz. He is a great runner, caught the ball well. His mind is fine. It’s just his play isn’t as good as it should be. It shouldn’t be a problem, and at times it is.” Jones "started" for Tampa Bay but was out-touched 15 to 7 by Fournette, totaling 36 yards as the team's backup runner. Jones can be kept around in deeper leagues as a contingency plan but continues to waste roster spots in a three-headed committee in shallow leagues given his shared role (and underwhelming play).
