RB Saquon Barkley, PHI (4 Viewers)

Benched Swift in one league with talk of limited play.  He has a good game.

Decide I won’t  do the same with Barkley in another league. 🤢

So you benched Swift because of talk of a limited game only to replace him with a guy with talk of a limited game?
Sorry..:no.  Benched swift in one league due to limited talk.

In another league…decided not to do similar with Barkley.

Screwed up in both.

The first week panic might be on for some.  If so, take advantage of it and get him at all costs.  Played a Denver Fangio D who was not gonna let him run for ####, obviously, and make an inaccurate, still lost, overrated QB beat them.

After the Washington game next week on national TV might be a better time, but maybe not, the schedule after isn't so bleak.

As the season wears on, you'll end up with a newer Coach doing whatever he can to keep his job in New York and that will entail a lot of Barkley in the gameplan.

anyone trotting him out there this week?  not a great matchup at all.
I mean, it should be better this week. Better matchup, and he got his feet wet with NFL contact again.

That said, he's likely a low end RB2 this week.

I'm sitting him for Edmonds this week, but this is likely the last week I do that.

After the first half of MNF...I thought I had my answer to whether I would put Barkley out there this week...then Ty'son saw little action in the latter half of the game and my shiny new toy to put in for Barkley fizzled.

Gaskin with a worse matchup than Barkley IMO...so I guess I roll with Saquon again.

Interviews don't leave me confident he'll play much. Although his 2 best games as a pro were against Washington. But this team and defense is improved since those games too. I think I'm benching him this week.

Kinda my thoughts.....but, if you wanna swing for the fences, he is always a carry away from an 80 yd TD

The Athletic's Dan Duggan said "it’s unlikely" the Giants will "totally unleash" Saquon Barkley against Washington in Week 2.

On a short week as the team carefully manages Barkley's comeback from a 2020 ACL tear, there's little chance we'll see Barkley get a full complement of snaps or touches on Thursday night. He played 48 percent of the Giants' offensive snaps in their Week 1 loss to the Broncos -- a number that would have been higher had the game not gotten out of hand in the last half of the fourth quarter. Barkley, listed as questionable after logging a limited practice on Tuesday, had ten carries and caught one of three targets on 16 pass routes against Denver. He's a risky start against a tough Football Team defense.

Saquon Barkley (knee) is active for Week 2 against the Washington Football Team.

The report is via dependable Giants beat writer Jordan Raanan. Most signs point toward Barkley remaining on something of a snap count after he was limited to 29 snaps and 11 touches in the Giants' dismal Week 1 loss to the Broncos. The Football Team come with one of the league's most imposing defensive fronts, so only 10-15 touches would result in another low-end FLEX type performance absent some big plays. Barkley didn't appear close to those in the opener as he failed to break a tackle for the first time in his career, but his game-breaking ability still keeps him parked on the RB2/3 borderline.

Saquon Barkley rushed 13 times for 57 yards in the Giants' Week 2 loss to Washington, adding two receptions for 12 additional yards.

It was a nightmare performance for Barkley, who uncorked a 41-yard run in the first quarter then proceeded to spend much of the evening with fewer than 40 yards rushing as he was continually knocked back at the line of scrimmage. The Giants' blocking was horrendous while the turf was a slippery disaster, but Barkley still wasn't making anybody miss. It was a problem, though Barkley still looked reasonably springy. Almost certainly limited to begin the year with the Giants cursed with two games in five days, Barkley's early performance will become a much bigger concern if he is bottled up on 10 days rest against the Falcons' awful defense in Week 3.

It looked to me like a small step forward for Barkley from a confidence standpoint. He made some hard cuts this week, that he didn't a week ago, and the workload increased a decent amount as well, though that may have been more from mostly leading vs chasing Denver.

If he sees a similar leap in week 3 after 10 days rest, I think he'll be a must start, especially against Atlanta. If you've survived having him as a 1st/2nd round pick and aren't 0-2 at week's end, you'll probably be glad you took him going forward.

Saquon Barkley played 84 percent of the Giants' offensive snaps in their Week 2 loss to Washington.

It's a considerable uptick for Barkley after he played 47.5 percent of the team's snaps in Week 1 against Denver. Barkley handled 13 carries and caught two passes on 27 pass routes while Elijhaa Penny and Devonate Booker each had two rushing attempts in Week 2. Though he hardly looks like the pre-ACL injury Barkley, the team's commitment to increasing his usage should be encouraging for fantasy managers who took a chance on Barkley in the first or second round this summer. Barkley now gets ten days of rest before facing one of the NFL's worst defenses in Atlanta.

I thought last night was a good sign.  He will get stronger, and more confident with more action.  I foresee some big RPO plays with he and Jonesy.

Saquon Barkley (knee) was limited in Wednesday's practice.

Kenny Golladay (hip) and Evan Engram (calf) were also limited Wednesday. Barkley should be fine for Week 3's potential blowup spot against the Falcons after playing 84% of the snaps last Thursday night and getting 10 days rest. Barkley will be a legit RB1 for the first time all season this Sunday. The buy-low window is open but will close soon.

Saquon Barkley rushed 16 times for 51 yards and a touchdown in the Giants' Week 3 loss to the Giants, adding 6 receptions for 43 additional yards.

Barkley didn't have a huge fantasy game, but he looked like vintage Barkley. He was heavily involved as a receiver and got into the end zone on a leaping touchdown run. With Devontae Booker a healthy scratch, Barkley saw 60 snaps. Backup Gary Brightwell saw just two. Barkley will have some frustrating days due to the Giants' overall offense, but he's officially recaptured his pre-injury role. Barkley will be a clear RB1 against the Saints in Week 4.
... dude that's 15.4 in non-PPR. Plenty big enough fantasy day.

Saquon Barkley (knee) was limited in Wednesday's practice.

This is going to be Barkley's routine for the foreseeable future most likely. He's coming off season highs in snap rate (86%) and touches (22) against the Falcons last Sunday and will be an every-week RB1 moving forward. Barkley draws the Saints in Week 4.

Nah the time to buy low has past. He played over 86% of the snaps in Week 3 and the Giants made his direct backup inactive. Owners now see the insane volume is back and won't bite unless something happens where his snap share decreases again, he gets hurt or Gary Brightwell takes the league like a house on fire.

I had him on the trade table sending Clyde.  And a few other important pieces in a multi-player trade. Ultimately I don’t think it worked out in my favor.

Saquon Barkley rushed 13 times for 52 yards and a touchdown in the Giants' Week 4 overtime win over the Saints, adding five receptions for 74 additional yards and a touchdown.

Barkley was the X-factor this afternoon, jump-cutting like he was back to 100 percent health and scoring two of the Giants' three touchdowns. The first was a 54-yard reception where some play-calling deception got Barkley free down the left sideline. He then looked a wide receiver with his speed making the house call. Barkley's second score was a walk-off, six-yard rush in overtime. He took a read option and got real skinny through the hole, making an excellent cut. There were a few times where Barkley seemed like he was trying to do too much — including spinning into a fumble the Giants thankfully recovered — but he continued his trend of looking more explosive each week. The Giants' awful line is going to lead to some volatility, but Barkley is already deserving of being a weekly fixture in the RB1 ranks, including Week 5 against Dallas.

Saquon Barkley was carted off the field with an ankle injury against Dallas.

It's a potentially devastating setback for Barkley after coming back from a torn ACL and returning to form in recent weeks. Barkley hurt his ankle on an innocuous play in the first quarter, stepping on the foot of a Cowboys defender and badly turning his ankle, which appeared horrifyingly swollen on the sideline. The worst-case scenario is unthinkable for Barkley and Giants fans a week after he finally looked like his former self.

Feel bad for the guy, but so glad I cut him loose in dynasty last year. He's just going to be one of those constantly injured players.

Really unfortunate set of circumstances for Saquon.

Such a good all-around guy.   He was just starting to look like the old Barkley.

He may or may not be injury prone, but this was a pretty freak injury. First of all, if Jones hadn't overthrown him, he would have been too busy getting huge yardage on the play to get hurt. Second, anyone can roll an ankle when they step on someone else's foot.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Saquon Barkley suffered a "low ankle sprain" in Week 5 and is "likely" to miss the Giants' Week 6 game against the Rams.

Barkley is "week to week," per Rapoport, and hopes to only miss Week 6. Fantasy managers can safely assume Barkley will miss next week's matchup against the Rams, setting up Devontae Booker as the team's primary back. Booker saw 19 touches and scored two touchdowns in relief of Barkley against the Cowboys. His pass game involvement should give Booker a nice weekly floor for as long as Barkley is sidelined. He should be prioritized by any fantasy player in need of running back help.

Obviously I’m not close to a Saquon level athlete so insert the obligatory caveats here buuuuuuut I used to play a ton of basketball in college at a pretty high intensity and would roll my ankle periodically. The mild ones I’d play through or be fine in a day or 2. The worst one swelled up like a balloon, I was on crutches for 2-3 days but in a couple weeks it was totally and completely 100% fine.

Low ankle sprains are just a different thing compared to high ankle. If there’s no break or torn ligaments it can look and feel terrible initially but heals really fast. Probably more useful than my anecdote is that this week Courtland Sutton rolled his ankle in practice Friday and was fine for Sunday. That was presumably very mild. Mixon limped off the field and had a pretty good limp on the sideline at the end of the Jags game. We didn’t get to see how he sprained it or see crazy looking swelling like with Saquon but I’d guess from the limp it felt pretty similar. He played 10 days later. I really think the timeline of out 1 week then questionable but plays week 7 seems right.

Second the little letters next to his name disappear, I'm shopping him around. Not playing this game anymore and I think (hope) his name still carries some value.

I know that is some major clickbait, but man Barkley in Baltimore would be terrifying. I don't know how a defense could stop him and Lamar together, without completely leaving Andrews/Brown/Bateman all one on one, which no teams have the secondary to do. Probably would require a few contract restructures.

KC would probably be a good fit too, and an equal problem for defenses, but more so in the sense of his receiving ability. They also are more aggressive when it comes to trading for vets, as Orlando Brown and Frank Clark can attest. Not that I would imagine Barkley in a pseudo contract year, fetches a 1st rounder like they did.

Mahomes would have to throw it to him for Barkley to be a receiving threat in KC.

Signed,

Angsty CEH apologists everywhere

At the risk of being that guy, CEH is probably 30% the talent Barkley is. Barkley would get the Hunt treatment in the highly unlikely scenario he somehow got traded there.

Was just pointing out Mahomes doesn’t throw to running backs often.
He did when he had other RBs though. Hunt was targeted all the time. Hell, Damien Williams was used a lot more in the passing game than CEH is. I kind of think that is less a Mahomes thing, and more a talent at RB thing.

Its fun to talk about possible spots where Barkley's career could flourish(health notwithstanding) but its super rare to see a high caliber player(especially one who is banged up) dealt at the deadline. It probably should happen more often though.

Hunt was targeted an average of 3 times per game by Mahomes. CEH has been targeted an average of 3.5 times per game. Small sample sizes though.
