RB Sony Michel (1 Viewer)

Looking like a game time decision. For insurance, I've added Jamaal Williams who plays Monday, but is Barner a better option.

Surely, 2 NE RBs will see time. It must be Barner eh?

 
Just my opinion, but if Michel was NOT going to play, I would think we would see a move from the Pats, like Gillislee. I can't see them going with only white and barner....then again, it's BB

 
Would be surprised if he doesn’t go.  I was thinking they are limiting his reps this week and will give him 20+ carries to control tempo keeping Mahomes off the field.  I don’t think BB has any interest getting in a shootout against Andy Reid though that will likely happen.

Jeff Howe of The Athletic relays that when he asked Michel earlier this week if his knee was "all good," the running back responded, "yeah."

Meanwhile, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport suggests that Michel is viewed as a game-time decision for Sunday night's game against the Chiefs, but is expected to play. Official confirmation of the running back's status, either way, will arrive upon the release of the Patriots' Week 6 inactives in advance of Sunday's 8:20 ET kickoff.

 
Pats only have 2 active RBs. If Sony was in jeopardy for this week, Gillislee or someone else would've been signed you'd have to think. White can't play 100% of the time.

 
he's listed as active....he should have normal workload. I think they were just resting his knee injured in pre-season

I'd say it's more luck than anything though. Imagine his share of the workload if Jeremy Hill and Rex Burkhead never go down.

He's an excellent talent though. You could drive trucks through those holes.

 
While I don't disagree about the luck thing 100%, talent almost always prevails. And this kid is by far the most talented rb on that roster. Sure, it may not have been his time if those guys hadn't have gotten hurt, but by around now, they'd be starting him anyway, I believe. 

Couple those holes with his ability to see where to cut and then decisively cutting, woah, kid has ä bright future. I like him a lot. 

 
special talent or not.  Patriots' RB1 are always nice to have.  He doesn't have to be Gurley to be valuable.

Look at Gurley 2 years ago.... great talent on a pedestrian offense, middling RB2 at best.  Same Gurley, fast forward 2 years, he is all of a sudden the best of the best.

Just boils down to opportunity, play-calling, coaching and O-line.... and also a bit of individual talent.  If you're on an NFL team, you are hyper talented, no matter what.  Barner looked good with his touches last night too.  

I guess the takeaway is that the Pats are still an ELITE offense that is going to score a ton with a good O line..... whoever gets 20+ touches in that backfield will be an RB 1.  Sony hasn't done too much to really wow me..... they need to get him involved in the passing game and get him into open space.

He'll get there. Looking at what he's doing now on a weekly basis versus how much time he missed is pretty amazing IMO.

I see he and Gordon on a similar path... Patriots offense growing in strength and it will go through these two guys.

I agree and I listen to him on occasion too but his Derrick Henry hot takes drive me up a wall! He nailed Alex Collins though.

You could also say it was unlucky that he got hurt during the preseason to even open the door for a slug like Hill. Burkhead's injury was fortunate but those things happen and he still needed to take advantage.

 
I agree Sony hasn't looked special. He's looked like a B maybe? He has burst and finishes runs strong but I haven't seen pass catching, haven't really seen him make guys miss and he always seems close to breaking a big play but easily tripped up. Maybe his balance could be better?

I find this line funny...

It just comes down to you being a talented player, given a chance to play, with a good coach, good surrounding OL/teammates, and coaching. Just. 

FTR I agree with your last statement. Given the volume he will be getting he will be a RB1/high end 2 at the very least ROS. The fact that he isn't elite in those circumstances is criminal IMO

I can never tell if these takes are serious... or just floating noise out there because other guys in your league (Michel Owners) may be monitoring and a trade attempt is being set up.

The dude has missed so much time, probably still not 100% healthy (GTD Sunday night), been available for 3 weeks really... 316 yds and 4 TDs

Special enough? That long TD run in week 5 was pretty awesome.

His knee concerns me. It's very possible his banged-up-ness is related to chronic knee problems that may bother him for a long time, if not his career. I'm not real sure I'd want him in dynasty. No, I don't see him as very special. Redraft, sure I'd take him. The volume alone is valuable in 2018. Dynasty I'd be selling.

This is a rookie that was never the main guy in college and missed his entire training camp. Taking that into account he’s been pretty damn impressive.

That's directly contradicting experts like Matt Waldman. 

I'm all for avoiding group think in many situations. But when that group is paid to review NFL talent, the consensus is Michel is a special player.

So basically your feeling is that the New England Patriots, arguably the greatest dynasty in NFL history (oop... just threw up in my mouth there), and all of their resources burned a 1st round pick on an unspecial, ill-fated, JAG RB?

OK. Just traded him for Ronald Jones. Thank you.

I respect Waldman's take on a lot of things, but he's not Jesus. He's been wrong plenty of times. I believe he called Jamaal Williams special too 

Personally, I find the forums to be a better source of information as there are many different takes on the same player and situation, so I take those points and I determine my own conclusion. It's really changed my view on several players, especially during the summer with dynasty talk.

Look, I get it. If you own a bunch of Michel, there's reason to be excited. If you avoided him because New England RBs a mess or you don't think he's special, that's fine. I think owners need to watch the tape and make their own assessments. But knocking Michel's talent flies in the face of people that know a lot more about football than we do.

 
One more thing:

The most common way an expert misses on a fantasy player is Sigmund Bloom's assumption of rational coaching. I bought into Kenyon Drake's talent this year, and own him in three leagues, unfortunately. So while the numbers are not there, the talent is there. I love Frank Gore more than my mother, but who could predict that Miami would lose their minds and play the unexplosive old guy way more than the explosive young dude?
